Jaco is a legendary artist! I really am influenced by him even as a guitarist. I am so blessed and thankful to be named after him. It’s beautiful how his legacy lives on even after all this time. He really is the greatest musician of all time. I love every song by him.
Jaco's interpretation of chromatical fantasy was life changing. I was 13 back then and thanks to jaco I discovered classical music. I love Jaco, rest in peace Boss!
Jaco was really playing well here, I would have killed to see him live. My dad just passed away two weeks ago, he has told me on a numerous occasions how amazing and life changing it was to see Jaco live (1978? with WR). RIP to two of the best bass players I know.
Notice Jaco used only finger style and harmonics for the most part and achieved this level of genius as a solo bassist. Now bassists cant get enough of themselves over-complicating every piece trying to show off every bass technique known to man in one melody or riff lol.
The Master! Today there are many incredible players....but to me none of them have the musical sensibility that Jaco had...it's something that you have (or not have) in your soul, not in your fingers..
Well the difference is players today can play similar to jaco, but they didnt revolutionize music like jaco. There is a big difference. We have great players with technical chops, but we dont have people who innovate, music has been in a stale spot for the last 20-25 years.
Wow... Even at his worst he was amazing!!! Really wish he would still be with us. I can only imagine the crazy stuff he'd be doing with today's artists haha
He's absolutely right. Not only did he play other basses after Doom was lost (sometime after recording Mood Swings), but this isn't even the bass itself, unless he decided to switch the pickup covers out for white plastic- And, being that he is Jaco, you don't trust that he could make someone else's bass sound the way he wanted it to? There were certainly other fretless Jazz basses around; have been since at least '70. Someone of your claimed knowledge and devotion surely ought to realize this.
I need to know what he does at 0:23
Okonkole Y Trompa
@@nolifewithoutfunkthe riff he plays before that one
The one and only ❤️🙏🏼
AAAMIGO LO QUE ACABAS DE TOCAR ! THANKS JACO !!
Jaco is more genius than Hendrix, I felt…
That America the Beautiful at the end was just jaw droppingly beautiful. Icing on the cake.

Living in la I saw him at the Greek theater, also in Reseda at the country club. Best basist ever
otto minuti e mezzo di ASSOLUTA MERAVIGLIA
The fact that any serious bass player feels the need to prove themselves by covering a Jaco composition says it all about his legacy.
His America the Beautiful cover was just legendary... Im truly speechless
The magic is still happening! Amazing jaco!

Exactly right, I'm so sick of the tapping and thumping trend!
always will b the G.O.A.T.
Incredible.
4:00 cromatic fantasy
8:27 "Back to Life, Back To Reality" WTF
I could see why you say that! I'm guessing it may be this though: th-cam.com/video/GZUTnnr8SPI/w-d-xo.html
Despite being later period Jaco, this is an excellent solo. He is on the money the whole time. Chromatic Fantasy is stunning! Jaco is the King.
😊🌱💙🏵️🥀

makes me sad to think of the world losing that magical, charismatic time-feel he had.
Maestro !! Absolutely the best and the baddest ever......
The Boss!!!!
He opened the door for all bassist after him
Yep! He was tha best. Got to see him one time live before he passed away.
Oh! And 'Blackbird' by Paul McCartney.
I wish the sound wasn't so damn awful!! :(
jaco lives forever and thanks to him bass guitar lives!!!
Hahahahaha Awesome The ending cracked me up......
Yea, it looks like a fret less fender jazz bass.

He could make a fretted bass sound like the Bass of Doom.
The greatest master of all time still totally on- even at his lowest ebb.. What can you say. This cat was a genius....
And this is his desrtuctive period???.....I just can't beleive what I'm hearing!
Nice to witness this after just reading about him in the days before You Tube.
Technology is not that bad after all
Looks like he's playing through an Acoustic head, but what's the cab?? Doesn't look like the 360 cabinet...?
i m vergus , the friend jaco has in new york...well thats was.... and was good at that time... we live for ever.. regards vergus
Tell me about him, im curious about what kind of of guy he was (he seems really nice to me).
I would've liked to talk to him.
At 5:57 I was like " Down in front!!" then I realised that Im watching this on youtube.
@RatchetGUN there were already fretless Fender basses in '70
@zao144 wrong bass of doom has black pick ups
@zao144 no its not that wa stolen way before 1986 when this was recorded
2:00 - 2:20 is he borrowing themes from the firebird suite?
thought i recognised it from somewhere!
Of course it's the B. O. D.!!! If you have 2 ask you'll never know!!
@langerzoriginal is it true that he took the frets out of a fender jazz bass, and went on from there?
@langerzoriginal .. i know its bright lights and the plastic is reflective but it does seem too white even so...maybe you have a point.
cool how he breaks into Blackbird byt the beatles around the end.
Jaco es LA MÚSICA pura inspiració!!
jaco pastorius es fue y sera el mejor bajista de esta tierra
Does anyone know when and where this gig happen?
