Welcome to RC_Fools! I'm in my 50's now but I enjoyed owning and building RC cars back in the 1980's. I got back into the hobby about three years ago and I'm hooked once more.
Modified RC Drift Trucks
I converted my Maverick Quantum R Flux 4S 1/8 4WD race truck to be an off road basher. I also modified my little UDIRC Drift truck to hopefully achieve a top speed exceeding 60 MPH.
These Maverick Quantum R Flux 4S cars are for sale at an absolute bargain price of £179.99 over at: www.modelsport.co.uk/product/maverick-quantum-r-flux-4s-1-8-4wd-race-truck-grey-1339664
All you really need to convert one to off-road use is a set of FTX Zorrow front and rear shocks and some off-road wheels and tyres. Plus modify the bodyshell wheel arches. I just trimmed down mine. Then you can quickly put it back to stock should you want to run it as an on-road car again. Or you could just buy the Rally version of this car at £224 and put some on-road wheels and tyres on it. But that would be sensible. In reality I only did this conversion because I already had the truck and wasn't using it.
I got my wheels from this ebay listing: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235700791696

Positive day today with Project Grasshopper. We went to a new location and this confirmed the modifications we have done to the chassis so far. The limiting factor is now the 3300KV motor. In this video we fit a new motor, do some repairs and we are confident of achieving the 50 MPH in part 4. Not such a successful day. Hornet rear wheels proved to be awful on the speedrun test. Tried some off of the FTX Vantage 2.0 but those faired little better. Best runs were on the stock Grasshopper rear wheels and with the mods I discussed in part 1. Only ran it on 55% power today. Best of 29 MPH but pretty stable. Is there a 50/75/100 percent for the throttle?
There isn't a dedicated switch solely for that but you could easily program that feature into one of the existing channels.
@rcfools Thanks! Can you tell me how to? I'm new to these types of remote..I just went to the Endpoint session and found throttle..it's on 100 percent, I scroll it down to -15 percent, and it had very little throttle, so I put it back to 100 percent and it had its power back,, So, I bump it up to 120 percent the Max, and the power was Insane more than 100 percent.. could that possibly be the 0 to 120 percent for the throttle?? Thanks
@@andrataylor6070 I can when I head back home. I'm away for a few weeks so I don't have that to hand to look. I'll get back to you when I'm home.

I have the same problem the wheel staying hard to the left & when I turn the steering on the receiver the wheel turns the opposite way I had the X10FG installed at the time. Mine came with both the X10FG & the X6DCG & the X6DCG receiver is for lights. Can I use it as the main receiver instead of the X10FG even though it for lights
You can use any DumboRC receiver with this transmitter. I have mine binded to several different DumboRC receivers.
Purpose
Hey, i was wandering if a DUMBORC X10FG receiver will accept light like a DUMBORC X6FG ?
Not sure what you mean by accept light?
@@rcfools i found that this receiver X6DCG from dumborc i can put directly light on it , thats why
@@vrnoobie3804 I have no idea what you are trying to say? What does directly light mean?
@@rcfools on the x6dcg receiver they have put 6 channels on the right and on the left they put light ports to connet lights
@@vrnoobie3804 Any receiver that has a spare channel or port can power lights. There are plenty of spare channels on the X10FG that you could use to power lights.
What about the front end.? Did you put it on?
What pinion and spur gear do you have
Spur is stock with a 20 tooth pinion. I do have some others to try. Still out of action due to the blown ESC I fitted.
nice, but i cant setup end points and triming... help
I'm away at the moment, but I'll get back to you on this. I don't remember how to do it off the top of my head, but I don't think it is too difficult. Pretty sure it was straightforward as I set them up differently for each model I added.
@@rcfools ok, I know, it's actually quite simple
Very smart!!
Thank you.
good
How should I configure custom mix to handle 4 steering wheels?
I hit 68mph on a OG Grasshopper 35 years ago with a 10 cell nicad pack and a Reedy modified motor. You may need to epoxy the diff solid to hold the power.
Awesome. I sell 3D printed diff lockers for the Grasshopper, Hornet and Lunchbox. But I didn't want to fit them as I was trying to stay as stock as possible.
@@rcfools awesome...Mine was total stock chassis and drivetrain other than locked diff and locked rear suspension.
How did you measure the speed , I doubt GPS speed metres were around 35 years back. Plus like I have a hornet to which I tried a 15 turn brushed motor with 2s lipo and it won't stay rubber side down , it kept rolling at the slightest bump in the road surface. It weighed so little that it just would end up on its roof. I then realised the Hornet was too light for this motor and battery combo. It would probably go.a lot better with say a 23 turn sport tuned Tamiya motor and even possibly a nickle metal battery as it weighs more than a lipo. My hornet went from looking great to looking trashed in like maybe 2weeks. I was really upset. I then had to buy another body shell and decal set.

Très bonne machine en Dirt avec un moteur plus puissant par contre ;)
got my stock hopper to 54.8 with brushless and 3cell mod only.. hobby park 5900kv and smallish 3 cell
That is awesome. Did you film it?
I did not. I need to start as I am doing some interesting things with the grasshopper with the help of a local long time RCr.
I'm poster this from his shop, he owns a CNC business and we are making some custom parts.
Wht do you think for rc drift ? Its good or enough ? Thx for the answer sir .
I don't own any drift cars and it's not something I have any experience in. All I can say is the response rate is excellent and so is the range. Feels a quality transmitter despite the low cost.
Yes... It has all necessary menus and tweaks you will need. It's simply superb.
Hi there, can i bind 2 transmitters on the same receiver at the same time?
I'm not sure? It is not something I have ever tried to do.
@@rcfools I have the X6FG and the X10F(G) receivers and i want to bind the X6FG on the DDF-350, without loosing the other transmitter binding
@@Arrudajmr You can. Just save it in your model memory on the DDF-350. I have several cars on mine.
@@rcfools Thanks, i mean it on my other transmitter, the X6PM-350, if i bind the DDF-350, i loose the X6PM-350 binding on the receiver.
@@Arrudajmr Understood. Yes you will. I did that on my Rlaarlo 917. Bound the stock receiver to the DDF-350 and once I had done so, the stock transmitter no longer worked.
I used to own "the Frog" as my first RC car. It was a challenge to assemble. As acdhild 1980s I wish it had been pre assembled. Looking back I think I will pass on re-buying the nostalgia and just prefer a Traxxas 4x4 truck for a better price. The Tamyia Frog was fun, but the maintenance is hard imo. Cool video.
Yeah the Tamiya's are fun for me but in a nostalgic way. Modern RTR RCs are amazing. My Corally Asuga is fast, agile and robust. I had the Subaru Brat as a kid which was almost exactly the same as The Frog bar wheels, rear shocks and I think the gearing/diff. Built that up around age 12. I had a second-hand Hornet first though.
@@rcfools Im 50 now and still love RC cars. but lookin back that Frog absorbed a massive amount of time to assemble. I kinbda wish ordered a RC assembled. Yet I love that car. Nostalgia n all that. Yet "Tamyia"......im gonna pass. All due respect. totally agree. o7

Excellent. They are awesome.
Hey up pal. How do I slow the steering down the remote tried every setting any help will be much appreciated
Hello mate, do you mean make the steering speed slower? I've not tried to do that on mine. But in the past on other transmitters I've found if you turn down the dual rate on the steering, this slows down the steering action but it also means that the steering will turn less in either direction.
@@rcfools yea pal that’s what I’m trying to find can’t seem to find it any where
Usually the exponential settings that numbs the steering down, ive not used this controller yet, just ordered one but ive used the exponential on my old controllers to smooth out or numb the steering

I've had good experiences with these Surpass Hobby motors in the past. I'll update via here if this one is any good or not.

I recently serviced the shocks on both my Rlaarlo's. The 917 had virtually no oil in any of the shocks. No leaks were detected. One of the shocks had no circlips on the piston. I sorted this out and filled them all up. The car performs so much better. The 787 had all shocks only half filled with oil. I topped them up and this made an improvement. Check your shocks people.
Whilst out on Sunday, I again broke another shock. This time a front shock. Same issue as before. The plastic bottom shock mount stripped its thread and separated from the shaft. I lost the spring before I noticed this. You can see this happen in this vid: th-cam.com/video/Id1f7EJrUR0/w-d-xo.html You can't buy the springs separately. I don't want to invest in another stock set. I'll update with a vid soon on what I do to fix this issue.
Hi mate i have exactly the same car with exactly the same upgrades you mentioned and i think it's brilliant for the money and very cheap on parts

"1/10th scale" The platform is 1/10th scale but the body's definitely 1/8th. Same with every other SCT or SCT-based vehicle. But at least it's not as bad as, say, calling the Kraton 8S a 1/5th scale truggy when it's dwarfed by the MCD RR5.
True.
Yes to be legal to race in competitions it has to be 2s
I got 2 but i made one nitro
Excellent.
Thank you
You’re on to something 🤔😏 I just might do that too since I also have two lol
What I have noticed over the last few days is that the stock shocks tend to leak a little on compression. I changed the oil in my rear shocks to 400 weight and whilst doing so I noticed the shocks had very little oil in them from stock. What I drained out of the rears was just enough to top up the front shocks. I'm probably going to change the shocks to try and rectify this. Shame as the stock shocks feel good but they do leak. Avoid overtightening them as the bottom part of the shock with the o rings it is very easy to damage the thread.
