I've Been Storm Chasing for 40 years. Also I'm a Aircraft Pilot and
a future (147 School) A&P FAA certified Aircraft Mechanic.

Why stop in the path of a tornado?
There's a fine line between the best shot and scientific data ever, and where this guy ended up. It's always better to have a navigation guy riding shotgun to better avoid this situation. I wouldn't call it "stopping in the path" but more like once he realized the direction shift it was too late and he had two options. The one he chose which saved his life or attempt to outrun and maneuver the tornado. Which you won't do in most cases, this dude literally couldn't have gotten cut off in a better spot had he not had such a big valley to drop into he was toast. Had he gone any further or even tried to turn around, again toast. He wanted to get close but the tornado wanted him dead. So we'll call it a planned accident rather than stopping in the path.

Great view! I wish I could be there now. It is so peaceful. I used to live in West Virginia. I live in South Carolina now and I miss the solitude and the community was so much nicer. I got to visit for a year ago and I always look forward to coming back. I appreciate you posting and be safe in your travels!

That tornado passed right next to by dance studio while I was there so we had to go hide in the bathroom. I apparently jinxed myself cause when we were under a tornado watch I said that I doubt that we'll get a tornado and 10 minutes later we get a tornado warning lol.
