More waitlists, less certainty: What to expect from 2021 college admission decisions
I had gotten waitlisted to Binghamton University (ongoing) & NYU (Accepted). I am now debating whether to lean towards NYU or RIT.
Congrats on your acceptances. What are you planning to study? RIT and NYU are both great but have some clear differences.
Thank you so much for this video! It's really helpful to gain insight into waitlists from the university's perspective! I was waitlisted to UCLA and I hope to look back on this comment when I am admitted! 💗
hi i also got waitlisted to ucla. best of luck for you! i hope we both get admitted🥰
@@mrskuroo-ne8ne Good luck as well! 🍀And see you on campus at UCLA in Fall 2021!! We will get in! 😁👍🏼
jastaycard we will! see you❤️
I hope it works out. Be sure to send them the essay reconfirming your interest.
Did you get in?
I got accepted into USC but I got waitlisted at UCLA. Does this mean that I would be near the top of the UCLA waitlist since they are comparable in acceptance rate?
Hi Umang, Congratulations on your acceptance to USC. UCLA does not order the waitlist as far as I know. You should upload and essay as I believe they invite you to do. Also, your chance of getting off the waitlist also depends on your intended major as some majors are more in demand than others. So take the steps to stay on the waitlist, but then move up and embrace the choices you have. Wishing you all the best.
@@educationaladvocatescolleg7785 Ya I wrote an essay and spent a long time on it to make sure it was really good. I hope it gets me in. If not then I’ll just go to UCSD because I’m a bio major and they’re really good for bio.
Do you think they messed up the yield this year?
I think colleges such as BC and Tufts are not exactly sure what yield will be due to the increase in applications at selective colleges, so they likely waitlisted quite a few students. Be sure to write a letter of continued interest updating them on anything new since you applied, and reiterating your enthusiasm for the school and why you would make a great addition to their campus. Wishing you the best of luck.
Joan Casey Thank you, I wrote a letter of continued interest and he said thank you great and please feel free to cycle back in a month. which is promising
Got waitlisted at Tufts and BC, hoping to get into BC but Tufts would be great too.
I don't know what BC is, however I got Rejected from Tufts University being an Eng Major.
should I ask my guidance counselor to speak to the schools that waitlisted me?
Hi Tom, Usually a guidance counselor will only call one school so think about the one you care most about and perhaps where you think you have the best chance and ask them to call. You can send a letter of interest with news and updates to each college as well or post it in the portal if they have one.
I have been waitlisted at 4 schools so far: UMich, GT, CMU and Purdue for Computer Science. What are my chances to get off the waitlist for GT, CMU or UMich? I am an international student from India.
Hi Heross, Without knowing much about you I cannot say what your chances are from being admitted from the waitlists. Be sure to fill out the forms the colleges provided saying that you want to stay on the waitlist. Provide them with any new information since you applied such as new activities, projects, perhaps tell them about the topics of any research papers you have written. If another teacher or other adult in your life could write an additional recommendation that would be extraordinary that might help (but only if it would be stellar), and Michigan would not want another recommendation. Follow the instructions they gave you. I wish you the best. -- Joan
@@educationaladvocatescolleg7785 Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! As a prospective college student right now, I will say that I have been seeing success with the state schools like Minnesota, UCSB/UCSD and UMich but was just waitlisted at Barnard yesterday. It will be interesting to see how Ivy Day goes next week.
Hi Lexi, I am glad you found this informative. Congratulations on your acceptances so far. You have some excellent choices. The UCs and Michigan in particular were quite competitive this year. Best of luck next week!
@@educationaladvocatescolleg7785 update: just got off the barnard waitlist! interesting bc it's not even may 1 yet--were you expecting to see earlier admits from the waitlist this year or no?
@@lexideeter1348 that is fantastic news! Yes, we had anticipated that colleges would go to the waitlist early this year. Will you be going to Barnard?
still trying to decide how important environmental engineering is to me, but the nice thing is, since they took me before their enrollment deadline, I have until May 3rd instead of 2 days to decide
