Thanks to your recommendation I bought Chandos beauty this year in late spring and now it’s given me some big fat beautiful blooms which smell so strongly fragrant. I love this rose a lot
I’m so glad that Chandos has worked out for you. You’re lucky to be able to get one, it’s very had to find in US and many people are looking for it.
I Love All Kinds & Colors Of Roses. Thanks For Sharing Your Beautiful Rose Garden. I have more Roses to Buy. 😊❤️🌹🌹🌹
Thanks for the kind words. Growing roses is addictive!
May I ask, what type of rose food do you use to get your roses looking so pretty and strong?
I give a good layer of compost, plus plant-tone , alfalfa, and seaweed
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal Thank you so much. I used compost and my roses are thriving. So I'm on the right track. Beautiful roses, most of all, they are strong. I love them so much. Thanks for sharing your ideas and talents.
@ I’m glad your roses are doing well. I’ve nothing against chemical fertilizers, but I think compost helps build better soil over time so I always try to be generous with it.
Such a beautiful garden. Breathe taking. Thanks for sharing, really needed to see beauty.
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for the kind words
This is my favorite rose! I have bought 2 and now a third and they’ve all died. It’s so sad it’s the only plant I can’t keep alive and I’m researching everything. I need help! I don’t know what to do and I don’t want it to die!
Neil is my very favorite, too! What part of the country do you live in? Is your plant in sun or shade? Is black spot the main issue, or do you think it’s something else?
It's not Jude the Obscure, sorry, must be a mislabled rose
It really is Jude, several people have remarked that it’s too pink to be Jude, but I assure most of the time my blooms are not that pink and look just like everyone else’s Jude (and I’ve seen many other people’s Judes!)
I just bought an Ebb Tide rose online. I can’t wait for it to come in so I can start working on it. I’ve never seen a rose this color before. Also, is that a Nicole Miller rose on the upper right corner at 1:36?
Best wishes on your new Ebb Tide. Sterling Silver is the rose peeking in on the corner, I made a separate video on her
That is a beautiful rose! I need to grow one. -Cara
Thank you, it’s one of my favorites
Does it smell masora rose?
Quite different, Yua is old damask rose, Masora is fruit and tea.
@GardenGlimpses-NorCal thanks
Looks beautiful
Thank you! Cheers!
What is the blue -violet plant near Twilight zone?😊
Statice - Limonium Perezii
Magnifico roseto 🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thanks for the kind words
Beautiful. Are roses own root or grafted? And if grafted, what's the root stock?
I have a mix of own root, grafted on Fortuniana, Dr Huey and Multiflora. I will take a plant however they are available ! They all do quite well, but I think I’d choose grafted over own root.
Wow! I also live in your area (ElkGrove zone 9b). How did you squeeze all these in your garden! I would love to get some tips.
Hello Neighbor! I think my roses are probably planted too close, about 3-4 ft apart and they could certainly use more. My lot is on a court so just about .3 acres, much bigger than typical for Elk Grove, I’ve got about 170 rosebushes and maybe a dozen fruit trees, and very little lawn!
How you save it from spider mites and thrips ?
I think spinosad products are best for thrips, and relatively ok for the environment. For spider mites, hard water spray first, if that doesn’t do it, Forbid 4F is a good miticide.
Hi Ben, how are the blooms holding up in the heat? Do they get fried easily?
I think they are holding up decent. My plant is still relatively young, but I can tell the bloom have decent substance and are held tightly
How is the repeat blooming capability of this rose for you in your garden? Thanks.
Just OK. Really nice spring flush, there’s some repeat but it could be better.
Hello, just found a place to buy this rose and it’s got the ADR label too! So much black spot with my other roses, I need those ADR roses. You’ve got me sold on all its other characteristics except its flower longevity. Can you tell us what the bloom size is?
I think bloom size is 3-4 inches (my plant is still young). I have heard disease resistance is decent, but we don’t get much blackspot here . Best of luck with your plant!
I’ve got 138 roses most of them historic.. but in Britain we have 100% rain everyday & they don’t get a chance to dry out a little.. but i don’t give up even after loosing many DA ones to root rot.. i absolutely love your roses.. totally My collection has.. souvenir de Jean pier vibert, mme. Plantier gruss an teplitz, kasanlik,Omar khayyam & 100’s more
What a wonderful collection you have! I thought the Austins would do well in Britain since they were bred and trialed there, many of them are too fragile for my hot California climate. Best wishes on your garden and thanks for the kind words.
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal the Austin’s droop in rain ( right now 100% rain is there 2 days now )& when not raining they still look down.. since 2016 3 are there out of 9 .. i also have jaques cartier rose, conditorum red rose, centifolia pink rose, frou Carl druschki white rose ,big purple rose,Julia’s rose, 100’s more..many old Austin’s are discontinued because of not surviving in continuous wet weather & drooping habit.. i totally admire your collection .. i left a jaques cartier of 23 yrs. massive display at London house.. now live in green countryside 20 miles away from London.. i had to move & didn’t think of that particular one to take it with me.. but the rest of the big garden came with me from there £500 for the hired van.. i miss it
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCalI have rose du roi too
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal l also have rose mrs John Laing, Monica baloochi too
I love this rose. I grew it in Ohio and haven't had since I moved to New York state. I found a source this year and have it growing on my deck till it's of a size to put in the ground. Interestingly, Austin is selling rosa Grace again, which is a rose that was taken off the market when it went out of patent. Perhaps they are seeing the value of bringing back very successful roses. Certainly Darby is one of the most beautiful roses they created.
I think Abe is one of the best all around Austins if you consider beauty of the flower, fragrance, great repeat . I noticed DA brought back several of their oldies, which is great.
In your opinion of course, if you had to choose between the impressionist and Elle which one would you grow?
I think Impressionist is a more special color and form. Elle is a much better plant, greater repeat, better fragrance , better habit and more disease resistant. So I guess it depends what your priorities are.
Beautiful and heathy garden lovely roses ❤️❤️❤️💐👍👍
Thank you so much 🙂
Khu vườn đẹp quá ❤❤❤👍👍👍
Thank you!
😍
Thank you!
Stunning! How old is it?
Just 2nd year at my garden when I did the video, Bolero blooms heavy even when young!
Amazing rose garden 😍 where do you get most of your roses? I can’t find the Constance or Juliet rose.
Thank you. Maybe check Etsy?
very nice rose ! i love that ! I bought it this summer by mistake .. was named The Garden Beauty . I don t find some info , find another name : Miss American Beauty. So here she is in your video :) Very impressive bloom size , color and fragrance. Today we have cosmic choice of new rose hybrids , but this rose for me absolutely gorgeous better than many new rose hybrids , because she is the real forgetting the best old thing , that I find suddenly. we saw first bloom in summer . my little son remember that fragrance and now always ask , where is the beautiful rose , that smell so good. do you plant it ?sorry for my bad English.. :)
I’m happy you have this rose, too. It is one of my old favorites, I have grown it in many houses over many years, and it still impresses me.
❤️❤️❤️❤️🍀💐💐🌹
Just subscribed ! Currently growing 129 roses. When you post a video , will you please let us know where to buy it form
Thank you. Parfum Royale came from Palatine.
Also how do you manage pest and disease? Do you spray? If so what please?
My California garden doesn’t really need spray, but when I lived in Texas I sprayed with propriconazole and mancozeb for blackspot.
How many roses do you have? And can you do a wide shot of your rose gardens. You give me hope that I can get the 150+ I ordered in my garden. 😊
150 new roses is alot at one time! I have about 180 total, hard to do a wide shot because they’re all over the place.
This is not Jude the obscure !
It really is the more typical beige apricot, but gets a pink tint in spring.
Just realised that I have this one too. In Europe it’s called Gartentraume instead of Scentuous. Mine just gave me its first bloom and it’s very fragrant. How big would you say the blooms are for you?
I would say blooms are 3.5-4.5”. They don’t last long but fragrance and repeat are very good. Yes, Gartentraume in Germany, Enchantress in Britain. I’m glad you grow it as well, overall a very good variety
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal oh ok that’s quite big then. I hope it repeats more for me. Thank you.
Hello Friend. Have you tried the Japanese Gabriel or Lucifer rose yet? Gabriel is silver with a pale lavender gray center and Lucifer is silver with a pale mauve center. I'm debating getting one of the two, but to be honest if any rose is not in your top fragrant list I don't want to risk it lol. I heard they are very fragrant and compact and they sure look beautiful. I would totally get a Sterling Silver if I could but they get to large for my space unfortunately. Also, next summer if your down in So Cal I would love to link up and do a garden tour. You can reach out to me privately to swap our info.
Hello! I have heard Gabriel , Lucifer and Ji Se all have excellent fragrance and similar color, but I have yet to try them personally. Lucifer is.reportedly very difficult to grow, cannot stand rain (perhaps perfect for us Californians tho?) . My friend has all 3 and says her most fragrant Japanese rose is Kaoruno, an apricot pink. Yes, would be great to visit SoCal gardens !
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal Hi Ben, Sebastian here, nice to officially introduce names. I will send you an email sometime with my number so we can connect. You're like an encyclopedia for roses,, it really is quite incredible the amount of knowledge and experience you have with them! I went ahead and pulled the trigger for the Lucifer rose on Etsy, just because it rarely rains down here. I didn't see the Kaoruno listed ye but I know you will get it soon and tell me all about it =) I do need to re home about 8 roses that are just not as fragrant as I like and I have no clue what to do with them. All my roses are in large 15 gallon pots and none of the neighbors have a green thumb or want to at least give it a try. It's crazy to me how many people think roses are so difficult to care for... When literally you just do a deep watering once a week and fertilize once a month and keep them in a sunny spot and they are happy and thrive without any problems!
Hi Sebastian, great to know your name! I sort of guessed it wasn’t Killian Winterfell 😂. Hope your roses are enjoying the great fall weather. First , sorry for the very late post, I had wrote earilier but just realized that it did not post properly. I look forward to hearing how Lucifer does for you! My friend who grows Gabriel, Ji Se and another of the light lavenders says that the fragrances are extremely pleasant, but not powerful like a Sugar Moon or Patsy Cline. Try Facebook Marketplace if you can’t rehome the less fragrant varieties elsewhere, I think you can buy or sell anything there 😅. I think we’re both fortunate to live in CA where rose care is easy, folks in the north, south and west have to worry about hardiness and disease I grew roses for many years in TX where we have to spray every few weeks. Thanks for the kind words on my garden and experience. At one time I was approached to eventually take over as curator of The Huntington’s rose gardens, it was an amazing opportunity but just didn’t fit with some other things I was trying to get accomplished.
Великолепные розы.Прекрасные сорта.очень ухоженные.с любовью продемонстрированные.Особое спасибо за подписанные сорта.Мира и процветания Вам.
Thanks for the kind words!
Can you do a comparison of pope John ii and sugar moon? Thanks
PJPII blooms more heavy, repeats faster. Sugar Moon resists weather better, and is the ultimate in fragrance. Both very nice.
What do you fertilize with?
Compost, plant tone, seaweed, miracle-gro
Just found the impressionist being sold here as a climber. It’s a pity you said it’s only medium to strong fragrance. I want to grow roses with very strong fragrance. Apart from that this rose looks amazing
Yes, fragrance is just above average, not strong, and it’s a myrhh scent, not my personal favorite. But I might like its coloring better than any other of my 170 varieties.
Wow that’s saying a lot, if it’s your favourite colour amongst all your varieties. I have aquarell, the colour sport of augusta luise, and it’s not the same colour as the impressionist but I think in terms of range of colour, it’s similar. It goes from yellow to pink to orange
@@chaotungng660 Color is really special!
Does your Chandos throw out long canes? I have 3 canes that are sooo tall about 6ft.
Yes, in fall she turns into an octopus! I cut them short during spring pruning.
Tthis is not Claire Austin(must be white
This is Claire Rose (AUSlight) not Claire Austin (AUSprior)
I appreciate your spring videos a lot. Could you also do a garden tour or showcase individual roses in fall too?
I’d do one but heat waves keep messing with my blooms!
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal ok, hopefully you get some cooler weather soon!
In your garden tour you mentioned that the blooms have some proliferation. How is your eisvogel doing now? I hope you can show us another video on your Eisvogel! Thanks to you I have two of them and they’re only a few months old. When they do flower for me the blooms look perfect (burns easily in sun though) and with amazing fragrance
I agree nice form, great fragrance. Mine keeps sending out big long canes does yours? Hoping it will settle down next year!
@@GardenGlimpses-NorCal yes one of mine sent out a long cane.
I would like from you to post an new update about this rose. She looks amazing
I could do one next spring, plant is still quite young
It's a climber--do you have new pics or video updates to share?
Mine is just under 5 ft, so maybe next year I will train to climb
You have sweet delight. Which one you prefer, Elle or sweet delight?
Just a matter of preference, Elle is consistently higher quality, SD blooms more and more fragrant, but both overall excellent
How long does it last and then scattered? I saw this rose last year, but I didn't buy it
Lasting quality is very good on Elle , good firm petals
Its absolutely BEAUTIFUL!!! 🤩🤩🤩 Liz from California
Thank you, I think Sterling Silver still has among the best color and fragrance among lavenders
Very soft pinkish purple colour. Love it💜
Thank you! 😊
Thank you for your love sharing. How long they last in blooming?
I would say this is a long lasting variety, maybe 5-6 days in a vase
Your garden is utterly delightful. It is giving me a real lift after a recent operation. Thanks.
Hope you have a speedy recovery, thanks for the kind words
