SEA HERO Team is founded by Dr. Zahir Ramli and his research team. This team is currently based at the Institute of Oceanography and Maritime Studies (INOCEM) in Malaysia and with experience in coastal studies and numerical analysis.
Dr Zahir studied the engineering and got his BSc degrees from Tokai University, Japan in 2010 and MEng from Yokohama National University (YNU), Japan in 2012. He received his PhD in Fluid and Structure Interaction studies at the University of Southampton in 2016. He then worked as a lecturer since.
His team is experienced in both the development and applications of computational methods (DualSPHysics, XBeach, and Delft3D) for fluid-structure interactions in coastal engineering.

Long term stationary case with a river discharge: This is a classic case used in De Vriend et al., 1993 where a river enters a straight coast with obliquely incident waves. It explains how to apply the simple and fast stationary wave solver and how to specify a river discharge.

Great video mate, many thanks
We followed your steps, but when we download the python its not working. What is the best solution for this? Thanks!
Hello\ How can we get access to the files please
Very informative session. Thank you for sharing your valuable knowledge.
Hi, thank you so much for the impressive video made about XBeach. May I ask a question about how we can output the peak wave periods for short waves from XBeach model if I use the surfbeat mode? Thanks again.
dr, may i ask you, i am currently choosing this as my cfd solver for my thesis. but, i still wonder why there is so lack of paper that using this cfd solver, is this solver meet the reliability to become cfd solver for research tool?
The reason you might not see as many research papers using it compared to more traditional solvers like ANSYS Fluent or OpenFOAM is because it’s more specialized. If your research involves something that SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) handles well, like multiphase flows or simulating complex boundaries, then DualSPHysics could be a solid choice.
Hello can you help me with the installation of the model? I don't understand how it works and I would like to download it. I am Colombia
Thank you for this excellent tutorial. If you can provide us with a link to download example, it would be great!! By the way, I think "posdown" means "positive down" not "position down" i.e. the positive depth axis is oriented downward.
Thank you for this videos. I am trying to build a file with salinity data with vertical variation in the borders and I can't find information in the documentation, do you have information on how to do this?
I have followed the videos that you uploaded to your TH-cam channel so far. But now I am struggling with the Delft 3D water quality part. I would be glad if you could upload a video series on "Delft 3D water quality" or other relevant resources to expand my knowledge of Delft3D software.
Hello Thanks for this useful video. However, you don't specify how to run XBEACH for this case? Will you prepare a new video to show how to run XBEACH? Thank you.
some of the required modules for the vs 2019 do not exist in my vs installer
nothing seem to work for me, I would like to get some help , Keep getting error messages :(
Thank you very much
I can not thank you enough for this. A true lifesaver, and I learned a lot!
thank you so much.
Thank you for this excellent tutorial, where did you get the land boundary for this example? I missed that step.
Hi. You can create the land boundary (.ldb) file from shape file (GIS). You can convert through quickplot (from shape file to ldb).

thank you for the comment. we will see what we can do as we are preparing for other tutorials as well
This is RGFGRID in Delft3D and not Delft Dashboard?
Yes, there are few alternatives in creating grid for your domain. You may as well use delft dashboard for the grid.
Hi, can you say to me whats is a good configuration of the pc to Delft3D? Processor, memory and video card?
The performance of the software depends on the complexity of your models and simulations. High performance CPU with multiple cores, 32GB RAM for complex problem, SSD. You can use both windows and linux OS.
I am getting compilation errors by selecting VS 2019, .NETFramework 4.6, IFORT21: intel oneAPI HPC 2021, however I installed intel fortran compiler version 2024. I am compiling file named "delft3d4-flow.sln" instead what shown in video "delft3d_open.sln". Any suggestions from anyone who compiled recently would help to compile and run delft3d4. I also tried with VS 2022, but same errors, my pc is windows11, I am not sure of which .NETframework should be used in combination VS 2019 and VS 2022, but in my pc it is showing .NETFramework 4.8. I am getting error execution failed when I run 'prepare_sln.py' on python v3.12. the error is ' execution failed and ucrtdir not found' something like this Thanks in advance.
any solution
I have the same problem
Sorry, do you get the solution? unfortunately I got the same problem

Dear Sir, First of all, I am glad to see your efforts on your videos and the way of teaching regarding xbeach model is really helpful to everyone. As I am newbie to numerical modelling, and need to meet my research objective that simulation of coastal rip current i.e. current vectors using any open source model like Xbeach. In this regard, as I am searching how to start regarding this model, I found your videos are more useful for me to start than anything else. Can you please also let me know any training sessions for students, or detailed documentation or other videos such as your videos or anything to be followed for beginners. I hope your support during the process of starting and running the model will be more helpful for me to meet research objectives.
The absolute sign might be at the wrong place. For the x directional, it should be |W|W_x. th-cam.com/video/P_0EkXn4PUY/w-d-xo.html
There might be a typo in the momentum equations where the viscous term is negative in the x direction and is positive in the y direction. The sign of the viscous term should be the same. th-cam.com/video/mFyMxGzpkdU/w-d-xo.html
Hi, I have compiled this xbeach model on linux in my pc and then how can i run this using given sample data?
hi. You can run the xbeach.exe with params.txt and all the input files together. All you need is the essential files from any sample data.
