Lucky enough to see them in Birmingham some years ago-great performance.
Elmo - Giles Farnaby's Dream
Love this stuff. Still mourn the death of Simon.
<3 one of the most gorgeously realized pieces of music. A masterclass in modesty, restraint and minimalism
That guy's face at 4:45 is as hard rock as hell on the most tender tune
text
I think this is my favourite version of this incredibly sad/thoughtful/soulful track. The way the band moves to the violin melodies, as if improvised, the timing slower, just letting those 2 intertwining voices speak to each other....
Genio.
Extraordinary and beautiful . ..... masters all, in an amazing arrangement. Timeless indeed.
Reminds me of my cross country train trip--three straight days of this train music--what a way to go!
pennguin cafe' ottima musica ambient& world
Good God that major/minor 7 dissonance
A 9 idiotas no les gusta esta cancion
Too many violins, no Che low.
Sheer rudeness, and utter nonsense ~ that's the summary of your useless comment....... Move on, say something positive, or fuck off!
Isn't Che low the person on percussion?
Isn't Che low the person playing percussion, Dude? How much is too many anyway? One?

mucha belleza..!!!!!!!
We stumbled across this on the TV one evening. It was wonderful and and led us into a love of the PCO. Thank you Simon (+) and Helen and all.
I believe this was actually from a performance broadcast in 1989 on BBC2, rather than the earlier 1984 WT show
I recorded that programme, and this piece is part of that programme.I still have it on video.lt was a programme about somebody's trip accross America,if I'm not mistaken.Thanking you,Mick.
@@michaelgaskell7408 ah, now that was another programme again! The chap who went to America in the late 60s, bought a Super8 camera, and ended up being there 12 years, taking footage the whole time! A chap from Cheltenham, Dave Pick, was involved with setting the selected footage with music, and yes, a lot of PCO was used (including Perpetuum Mobile to great effect). Can't remember what they called the resulting programme, but was on Channel 4, and, again, 1989 or so. I really loved watching it :-) (I worked briefly with Dave Pick on some recording in 1992, he headed up FFG records releasing hip Christian music at the time. I happened to start playing Perpetuum Mobile on a piano, and we had a conversation about the programme!)
@Michael Gaskell - Found it! Road Dreams. Turns out it was 1990 it aired, but was still while I was in Upper Sixth.. Here's episode 1 - th-cam.com/video/IOkcnVrdPbw/w-d-xo.html
@@duncanparsons Hello Mr Parsons, Sincere apologies for the delay in getting back to you.I clicked on the link?, you kindly supplied, and found myself watching the very same programme,l have'somewhere' in a box on a VHS cassette! I enjoyed it very much, and have since seen more episodes,'just as good as when I first viewed the programme in 1990',l think it was.Thank you very much for taking the trouble,it was much appreciated.Yours Sincerely,Mick.
@@michaelgaskell7408 thank you for your reply. This is exactly what the internet was designed for - the sharing of knowledge :-) Rewatching it has been a delight for me too, especially you prompting me to rediscover the name of the programme after three decades!
I hope all their music is listened to hundreds of years from now, with the same amount of appreciation that Classical music enjoys today. They are beautiful. One of my all time favourite bands.
Hosh Y Less a ban, more a chamber orchestra.
I love this piece ❤️
reminds me of electric trams
Superb ! Twyla Tharp is pretty cool too.
I loved this music at 17, bought my first Penguin Cafe Orchestra album in '81. Truly amazing, minimalist music, Every single composition ~ magic and spectacular. Cheers to SJ ~
0:01 and 6:48 what instrument was that long note played on into the microphone?
It looks and sounds like a "tuning pipe" which choir leaders are using
Pitch pipes. Like simplified harmonica w just 6 notes, one for each guitar string. Popular back in the day, before invention of the Electronic Tuna!
guauu esto es muy bueno!!como vibran!!!
Simon Jeffes...your music was pure genius.I have already told my wife that I would like this played at my funeral. which, hopefully wont be for a while yet..... Lol
Sweet Sweetness to my ears! <3 PCO
amazing
penguim Cafe davvero speciali!!!
No expert , but the violinist is amazing how he just keeps that Raga going ,the other parts bring water to my eyes .
me also....
yepp.... still in TEARS....
This is so good that it leaves me a bit drained, but my mind wants to sing!
Una maravilla...
Großartig.
Wonderful & melancholic piece! / ¡Pieza maravillosa y melancólica!
this is from 1989 and not 1984
It probably seemed like a good idea at the time.
This is a work of art....
It's so soothing to listen too, love it
One of the most breathtaking things I've ever heard so if it's any comfort he/she has umbrage against me too!
Very interesting.
La amo. I really love this song *-*
simply the best ever. thanks PCO
