We met in Perth, Australia 16 years ago and became good friends. We would have thought, 16 years later, we meet again in Japan, both married with children. We wanted them to have a good time in Japan so took him to Hakone for a road trip.

What a beautiful video! Thanks for sharing this journey. I will go to Nikko with my dad and brother in the end of October. We'll rent a car within Nikko. I'm excited to explore the area!
Thanks for your comment! Have fun! I am excited for you!
Can you make video on japanese bath house modern vs traditional? Pls
I will try if I have the opportunity!
The worst part of Nikko, or any site, is tourists walking around talking into selfie sticks. You are part of the problem.
Tokitoki
Nice vid mate. I was tempted to drive but leaning more to the train. Can see the appeal of the extra freedom though. A couple of questions: are there plenty of rest spots along the way? Is there plenty of parking at the various tourist spots? I won’t be going until October but it will be a weekend (still not as bad as golden week!)
Cheers mate. Driving is a great way to experience Japan. Driving to Niko there will be plenty of resting spots along the highway called Service Areas and Parking Areas. Service Areas are bigger with more facilities and Parking Areas rae smaller, but still much better than most stops along Australian Freeways. Parking is plenty but can be a problem around tourist hot spots especially if it coincides with Japanese holiday season. Hope this helps!
Super easy to drive from Tokyo to Nikko. Google maps will be your best friend. Yes, many rest stops along the way. Within Nikko itself, it’s pretty easy as well. I did see some social media mentioning that Nikko is a very popular destination during the Autumn/Fall season.
@@bernie4689 Autumn is when the leave changes colour into, called Koyo in Japan. Very special and famous. Thanks for sharing!

stumbled onto your channel because of you taiwan vlogs, so am starting from the beginning. you guys are the cutest! love how you let your kids also speak for themselves, and how much excitement you are all feeling for your new adventure! i smile just watching how much you and your family are enjoying your adventure! be safe and keep the adventurous spirit! being able to travel and be curious are such amazing ways to live life!
Thank you so much!! We have just ended our adventure and is back to normal life in Perth Australia. This was a great trip and will remain a huge part of our family history for many year to come. Probably one of the best decision we've made as a family. Thanks for dropping by!
same situation also when Hari Raya, Gawai, Christmas
Hey mate, awesome video. I will be going to Nikko in November, planning to drive. Is the drive difficult or dangerous? Also are you able to share your full itinerary of the places you went in the video? (So I am able to plan it on google maps)
Hey mate, thanks for your kind words. The drive is fairly easy and safe. I'm from Malaysia and live in Australia. If you've been to these countries, the traffic is multiple times better. I have created a google file map here since you asked. Hope you enjoy your trip! DO let me know if you have any other questions! www.google.com/maps/d/edit?mid=1BWGktx7hV789qA34JN9HoCwfTG9uUqQ&usp=sharing
@@journeywiththejongs Thanks alot really appreciate!
Awesome video. Do you think it’s better to take public transportation in Nikko or to drive? Planning to visit Nikko in June.
Hi Bernard. Thanks for the compliment mate! I will need a bit more details to give advice e.g. will you be travelling with kids, where do you plan to visit in Nikko, will you be having JR pass etc. If you are like us, family with young kids and plan to explore around Nikko, driving is always the better option because it’s easier to get around. Parking shouldn’t be a problem in June. Also, road trips offer a different experience showing a side of Japan tourist wouldn’t get from travelling on public transport. Happy to help if you give me a bit more info.
@@journeywiththejongs Thanks for your swift reply! I will be traveling with 2 folks, my missus and 1 child. Only got 3D2N in Nikko (taking train from Tokyo to Nikko). No JR pass. Planning to visit the places you went in the video. May also make a trip to Heiwa Kannon and Kegon Waterfall. I kinda figured that it might be worth to rent a MPV (like you one you drove) as we can pick up the car at Nikko station and drive to hotel (hence saving on taxi / airport pickup 😁)
@@bernie4689 Not a problem at all. If you travelling with folks and a kid, definitely a MPV like ours will be a great choice. Easier way to move a crowd around Nikko. Any other questions, feel free to reach out!
@@journeywiththejongs We just got back from Nikko. Stayed there for 2 nights. Absolutely beautiful place. And yes, we rented a Noah Hybrid to move around Nikko - it was a breeze. Super fun driving the winding road. Definitely recommend to rent car to drive around the area, especially if you’re traveling with a group.
@@bernie4689 Glad you enjoyed it Bernie. We miss Japan!
After watching this, I would love to go to Japan on the school holidays. Wendi Niu
