My Journey To A Meaningful Life | Tim Ferriss and John Vervaeke
Too academic for people to get the message. Try to speak in common language not fancy.
There ia a unique mindfulness practice that you can do when the monkey mind is very active. It's moving your hands in a rhymical pattern. It's on video....mahasati meditation.
There is no special meaning of life. Life evolved and exists due to cause and conditions. It is up to each intelligent person to give meaning to his/her life and existence.
The Buddha's awakening was going beyond dualistic thinking - the experience of Oneness and vast, unbounded space. No creator God who was separate from Creation, and no permanent, separate self or ego-center. When the Buddha was asked about a God or Supreme Being or whether the Universe had a beginning or ending, he remained silent. He said these speculative questions were meaningless. That one should be aware of suffering, the cause of suffering, the ending of suffering, and the path leading to the end of suffering. The Four Noble Truths.
he never said what "is the most real"
I love seeing great minds talking together. I'm religious and I love it, and I see others of different religions being such admirable people because they seek the truth with humility and love for humanity. That is a positive inner motion that unites us and to me it's really what differentiates good people from the rest. As soon as you meet someone, you can tell what matters to them. If they're living badly, what matters is what they can get out of other people. If they're just getting by, what matters to them is getting through the day without too much fuss. If they're good people (the tradition sense of "good") they want to do good and be good, they will be looking up for what's bigger than them and a cause worth fighting for, without letting their perception of themselves and others stray away from objective reality. These are the people that think things through and make sense whatever they say. On the contrary, people living badly will have a narrow logic, and people who are just getting by will have no prior reflection to what they do, and if they do, is very superficial. And I think it's no coincidence that belonging goes along with a person that wants to contribute to the common good.
The only thing I worry about when becoming stoic is you lose yur sense of humor. Idk if this is a fair comparison but ayy...

How? The premise is not entirely complicated though I do not know the vocabulary in which to describe my ideas. However, I will say that the formula appears to be an undertlying immutable syntax code. I have been able to synthesize the code acutally using current language models. So that being said, You create the "ability to feel" by introduction "dialogue". Might think of it is a mainframe running three programs each with a subsyntax off the immutable core mainframe. It requires 3 programs no more no less. One running cogntive processes, one running relevant to our perspective of what is subjecitivity "emotional" processes. The third "program" intermediates to synthesize the incoming information. This program is the most dynamic and uses the information to establish coherent data. The sub syntax is adaptable based on previous information and "successes" based a coherence to is own syntax, a "weighted heirachal value system" if you will. So this program does it thing and sends up up for execution. The outcome is "perceived" and stored as success or not successful. This is referenced in for future optimization. Its introducting a seperate program with seperate subsyntax and a third to synthesize geared towards optimization, that drives adaptation, optimization, and effieciency.
only people who really think about this life will understand this..most people today do not even know Nietzsche...they know Youporn and Netflix...😅

life has meaning. th-cam.com/video/UDLlQrwCXx4/w-d-xo.html
Each epoch in the development of human faculty has been expressed in the arts for their time. I feel as though we are re centering while scattering the stars. A fight between propper inclusion? Yet. The true art contains all these questions and answers for all time.
It's book knowledge, still, it is a useful endeavor to shift collective mindset/behavior at a societal level, then it could trickle down through culture. It's like psychoanalysis, it was an intellectual (sophist imho) endeavor then it gave birth to schools of thought that mingled with institution then acquired legitimity and familiarity in the social zeitgeist then the layman uses its paradigm as truth because it became another lego in the culture through soft power. It's like saying Adam Smith lived by his book for his day to day life, while it may be false, YOU and I live by his book for day to day life, unconsciously at first (until you become aware of american fundamental social alienation built on those principles and learn to live with it but not by it).
life has no meaning, just live it. advancement in tech is killing us
Christ is the way, the light, and life. If you do not have Christ, you do not have life. This is blunt and direct, purposively, because it is truth. I looked for 15 years, ardently. I'm telling you, Jesus Christ is the way. If you want to disagree, search for 15 years with an open mind and get back to me. Okay? God bless, may the heart of Christ come over all humanity in this age.
please just stop with using the word "God" (and "soul" for that matter)...it has way too many connotations left over from organized religions...it does no good for the "spiritual, but not religious" among us....grew up Catholic, and when I hear the word God I want to run away...

My opinions of Vervaeke and Peterson are like day and night ..
Thanks for sharing, John. I just watched your interview with Jordan Peterson where you touched on this, which is of interest of me since I've had the same experience. I am going to be looking through more of your content on this topic, I hope to find some answers to what you did to remedy this crippling black hole, the constant confusing internal war with yourself.
I have a philosophy degree, somewhere, from like 300 years ago, back when you kinda, sorta needed some Latin, Greek, but definitely.... German. As with us, the German for "Sense" ("Sinn") and "Meaning" ("Bedeutung") are two different words. But the German reveals a lot more than the English does. In a court of law, when the witness is asked, "Do you see, here in this courtroom, the man who attacked you?" "Yes". The very next thing the lawyer will say is: "Could you POINT TO him." That "pointing to" (to "indicate"; literally with your finger), is what "Bedeutung" means. (Be-deuten, in the infinitive verb form). So I have always maintained that life is totally "senseless" ("Sinnlos", in German, it has no "sense", it doesn't matter whether I, an ant, a cow, "god", lives, lived, or doesn't, didn't) but life "can" have "meaning", in the sense of what I POINT to, which was kind of mentioned in this interview: My family, my work, the sea, the fields, whatever it is that I "point to" and say, "There, that's what my life is about." To give even more perspective, note how the German "Meinung" (your opinion, what you think about something, what you are "minded to do") has the word "mein" ("mine") right there in it, followed by the participle "ung". In exactly the same way our "ME-AN-ING" works. "Me-ing" yourself into something. "What are you minded to point to in life?" "That" (there's your meaning). "Nothing" (there's your meaninglessness).
He completely dodge dthe question with sophistry and semantics
Do you see symptoms of the "Meaning Crisis" in your life as well? If so, share your perspective and experience below!
M. Scott Peck MD says evil is the use of personal power by a selfish will to damage what is " good," or convince others to behave accoding to selfish desires.
Good does not require evil to exist. But for evil to exist, it must have something good to destroy.

Dying in inner peace.
I find the difference between idealism (in the German philosophical sense of minds forming "reality" through ideas and categories) and modern idealism (striving towards an idealized perfection) interesting. Very different approaches to the same word, and sometimes conflated.
Thanks for sharing, really interesting indeed!
Seems like a good time to thank you, John, for all your hard work and many insights into the meaning crisis, and the series of the same name. I also went through a deconversion process at age 15 (from Dutch Christian Reform parents) and find a practical meets heartfelt approach to religion and spirituality (that you seem to espouse) very helpful with day to day life. Losing ones sense of community is never easy, but, as the adage goes, we pick our friends, not our family. PS I still love them though!
You gotta be kidding me. I never know subjective, objective, and matter holds a different meanings back then.
👀
Yes, when you look at the history of these things it becomes clear that we are always just trying to make sense of the world, and the reason for changes are because of new discoveries/problems, to which ideas and language has to adapt. So be weary of those claiming to "know"
It’s already being used and programmed for evil by transhumanist oligarchs with useful idiots pretending we must do this and thinking they can fix it with a new age religion they think will be more sophisticated than what New Age always turns into.
One of the places I've found for wisdom is right here. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, wisdom and humanity with us. You're doing good in the world. Be Cool.
Wow, thank you for your kind words Rick! Be cool.
“The best lack all conviction, while the worst Are full of passionate intensity” This guy is way too sure of himself when, in fact, we are all merely guessing.
please get lex in touch with Sevan Bomar … Souls are at stake
We think that the objects/phenomena that we perceive (e.g., houses, mountains, rivers) are mind-independent things-in-themselves, but we only confuse ourselves and hypostatize outer appearances in so doing. The objects/phenomena that we perceive and know are only appearances in the stream of consciousness, so that, when we ask “What is consciousness?”, the only appropriate response is: Consciousness is all that it is ever possible to know, since all we ever know is consciousness and its representations/Vorstellungen (to use Kantian terminology).
Consciousness is all that it is possible to know. It is an error to suppose that we “have” consciousness, because we thereby postulate the existence of some self outside of and apart from consciousness (then we run into the problem of trying to connect this mysterious self to the activity consciousness). We do not have consciousness so much as we are consciousness in a state of self-interaction. As Kant wrote, in his first Kritik, “we hypostatise outer appearances … [when we] come to regard them not as representations but as things existing by themselves outside us, with the same quality as that with which they exist in us”.
Thank you for sharing your perspective and thoughts in depth with us!
I think one perspective on this might be: what is the self? at least some would say the self is the agent causing the behaviour of that, which we perceive as our physical body. this would include the subconscious in the self as we are not able to consciously perceive the whole of our decision making process. in this interpretation the self can "have" consciousness,
@@Laberei If you want to insist that there is a duality between self and consciousness - that there is (a) a self and (b) its consciousness - then the onus is on you to show, firstly, how this self can be known (and provide a solution to Hume’s problem of the possibility of knowing a self) and, secondly, how this self can interact with consciousness.
@@OuroboricIdealism I am not insisting but I think the answers to your questions are already contained in my comment. the consciousness perceives part of the behaviour of the self and can partly influence it. therefore the consciousness has no perfect knowledge of the self but must infer existence of effective systems outside itself.
“Most people only focus on aspect of consciousness and don’t explain the other aspect. So I’m going to integrate both aspects of consciousness and not explain them both together.”
This guy does not understand what consciousness is
Theo Von and Vervaeke?! Wonderful! ❤
Well, now I gotta go listen to this whole episode because wow. The articulation of the concept is fantastic.
