      For myself, I figured out that the opening of my palm into the waiters tray was pulling my elbow down. By maintaining a longer palm down position, I was able to focus on raising the elbow on the backswing. It’s a long process to break a habit and it’ll never fully fix but it’s certainly a lot better

    Today’s video is inspired by recent lessons I’ve been coaching at my club. I hope that this helps you to improve your quality in your groundstrokes and win more of those baseline exchanges! I’m conscious that The Tennis Mentor uploaded a similar video on this topic yesterday after I had this scheduled. I guess you could say we are on the same wavelength 😂 I hope this supplements his video and gives you different drills to also practice. Enjoy 🙂

    Three tips: 1. Ball toss 2. Rhythm 3. Add more spin BUT, how to do that/ how to improve that you did not say. Not just say, but add more practice/example on how to improve those tips. For example, for ball toss, how to improve? for me, just practice more and more, you can practice at home or everywhere and then you can find the consistency ball toss for you...

    • @tenniscoachliam4444
      @tenniscoachliam4444 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! You’re right, I think the lack of drop is caused by the elbow being slightly lower than I’d like. Raising the elbow higher particularly on my second serve should allow more flex and drop. Whilst I’ve made a huge improvement in recent years to my technique, there’s still a little way to go 😂🙂

    Let me tell best and natural way to take such balls, once you recognise such ball, run around with forehand and take it with forehand, if you have decent forehand you would make less errors and would be able to hit harder, but sometimes you would have to take it with backhand.

    • @tenniscoachliam4444
      @tenniscoachliam4444 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      That’s certainly another option if you recognise it early! Again you’d still have to decide to take the ball early or let the ball drop. Whichever you choose will need to put the opponent under pressure or they could take advantage of the court space that running around your backhand presents

    Thanks Liam, it's completely different approach from my coach who suggested to hit the ball with top spin while it is dropping to my comfort zone, i.e. below waist height. But I like yours more. I'm 56. Most of my tennis playmates in the club are retirees. They are mostly pushers. Grabbing the skills of hitting the ball at shoulder height could finish the game earlier. It's more fun to play it aggressively. 😂

    I'd want to hit it on the riae as much as possible. Moving back will have problems of running out of space - some courts have very shallow depth and I dont want to run into a fence.

    • @tenniscoachliam4444
      @tenniscoachliam4444 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very true, amazing how little run off some courts have! I recommend taking the ball on the rise as much as possible, certainly helps your court position and takes time away for your opponent!

    Very useful, thank you. I sort of a baseliner but i hate to get stuck in thar defensive loop.. So i usually take the ball on the rise. My coaches usually advice me aginst drive volley because of the high risk, althought I'm getting quite good at it. Drop shot might be another option but it's even riskier because it requires perfect execution..

    • @tenniscoachliam4444
      @tenniscoachliam4444 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely worth it to keep practicing the drive volley! Such a good aggressive weapon against high balls! Drop shot would be extremely risky but if you master it let me know, it would certainly catch your opponent off guard!

  • @jz77096
    @jz77096 ปีที่แล้ว

    Only works against slower balls. High spin nadal like balls you have no choice but to stand back, or not let them hit those balls I guess.

    • @tenniscoachliam4444
      @tenniscoachliam4444 ปีที่แล้ว

      You certainly couldn’t drive volley a fast topspin ball as you wouldn’t have time to take it out of the air. I reckon you could take it on the rise however, but you would need to maintain a higher court position very close to the baseline and have very good timing. Moving back would be the obvious choice but would allow him to dominate the point.

    • @morapelimokokomali7907

      @@morapelimokokomali7907 Any 4.5 or 4.0 even can have Nadal like ground strokes. The ball path is UP with force (spin). Very hard to change direction (lateral), because every bounce is different, so it's unpredictable. Sorry, yeah I'm just giving my opinion, don't mean to sound offensive towards the channel.
