My Illustration Studio!

Something a bit different this time, I thought I would show you around my workspace and take the chance to introduce myself! Hopefully this video can answer some of the questions I have been getting on past videos. I'm typically quite camera shy so this was a bit of a leap for me, but I feel you can learn a lot about an artist by looking at their studio. Enjoy! Feel free to leave any questions ...

    This is so cool! I'm getting Jules Verne vibes here- but with a hint of Ghibli magic mixed in!😀💕✨ I love this style of drawing, it reminds me of the ink drawings in Victorian books. (Yours is objectively cuter, though.) Thanks for giving me a whopping dose of whimsy this fine morning, lol 😆

      @@HenderverseOk... I have the notion that the figures are way too small for the size of the board that you are using. I mean that all these exquisite details are lost, because of their size. I'm not talking about the larger shapes, machines, buildings, kiosks etc. but the creatures that you are drawing doing all sort of things, which are doing all the action on your illustrations. This became more obvious to me on the Parade of Silly Beasts illustration that is extremely detailed, it is a fantastic work I don't have to say anything about the quality of the drawing and the composition and the details. I admire your patience, but how can someone notice all these details on 40x50 cm board. If you hang the original on a wall you need a magnifying glass to see the details. If you magnify the reproduction you loose the clearness of the inking, if you go smaller it becomes way too... compressed. Why don't you go for an even larger board and magnify the whole thing? If you work on the double size of board then you'll have the margin to decrease the reproductions without losing the quality of the details and the originals will look like finished paintings. Just an idea ok based on technical stuff. Don't shoot me!

    • @Henderverse
      @Henderverse วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@creativecolours2022 Totally understand, and I appreciate the feedback! Honestly I just enjoy working this way. Also, most of my work is intended for children’s books, so I draw just slightly larger than the print size. Anything too big will become compressed, and the detail will be lost anyway. So I simplify and imply details instead. I would like to experiment with larger pieces in the future like you say, but it would really only be practical in a fine art setting.

    • @creativecolours2022
      @creativecolours2022 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@Henderverse I'm glad that you didn't take it wrong because I'm afraid to talk about such things on youtube because some people become way too sensitive. Some think that I attack them though my intention is clearly technical, to exchange information, give feedback and talk about technical details which is IMHO the essence of communicating with fellow artists. I mean to have an idea of how illustrators work around the world. I'm not familiar with American print sizes so I can't comment on that. In Europe publishers ask for illustrations that are at least double of the printing size and then they always decrease the size in the printed reproduction. It has to do with the thickness of the ink lines in relation with the size of the details. Inking f.e with EF nibs on A2 size is different than inking with F nib on A3. The details are clearer in the first instance. Aside from the above and as I've said previously, I admire your patience! How much do you sell the original of the Parade of the Silly Beasts btw?
