    My Dokio panels arrived with a DOA controller. I contacted Dokio’s customer service in China to see about replacement. I am still without a replacement offer or solution fifteen days later. Brand new panels and I cannot use them without major modification. No customer service - no option to purchase replacement/repair parts. Keep this in mind when making your solar panel purchase. Caveat emptor!

    Did you buy it with your own money or as it a gift from the manufacturer? Other reviews have reported that these do not 'weather' well if used constantly for a few months and the surface tarnishes and become semi opaque - reducing power output considerably. How much have you used this and is it still producing the same output? Given that these seem to age badly it would be interesting to hear updates from people who said they were great the day they received them.

    Mini (Winter) Solar Tip: A boiler and all other hungry electricity consumers can be infinitely dimmed with the "5000W dimmer". Ebay €7. I run 5 dimmers in parallel on an 850W inverter. Kettle 2.2KW at 150W runs 12 hours a day, so the water is always hot. The room is also nicely heated. 2.5KW washing machine runs in parallel with dimmed to 200...400W. Iron, dishwasher, oven, electric heater, coffee machine, all internal heating are throttled with me. Videos on my channel th-cam.com/video/eC2olbCBhh0/w-d-xo.html The inverter stays cool, quiet and the MOSFETs remain intact because no extreme current peaks arrive at the inverter. Now every Mini PV Inverter is enough to sell large devices. So, with the dimmer, all internal heaters/devices can be converted into base load devices that stay almost permanently ON, drawing very little current directly from the PV. With a wattmeter / energy cost measuring device you can then measure this perfectly in order to set the dimmer optimally. A little hint (for everyone else): Energy cannot be saved. So if I want to boil my water, I always have to use the same amount of energy for one liter. Christian's method relies on a longer period of time with less power in order to be able to use the power provided by the PV as efficiently as possible - so consumption peaks are intercepted. In the end, the energy consumption should even be (slightly) higher due to the interposition of the dimmer, but it doesn't matter, since more efficient coverage by the PV system and therefore better use of the self-generated energy...

      No internal battery, uses cig lighter to plug into car batt or ac plug for house. You would need a different battery of some sort that can be charged by a solar panel and has a 12 V cigarette lighter plug. Like the Jackery portable units have now.

      Very sorry to hear your unit did not work for your needs... the average for the unit we purchased was 70-80watts in FULL Sun but a small cloud can drop that drastically...as the sun moved we also had to make sure the panel was straight (and flat) to the sun. if you leave it, it won't be getting direct sun... we also did not use a Jackery, did you plug the panel directly into the Jackery or did you also add the included controller? if the Jackery overheated then the panel may not have been the biggest issue as even 58w should run many fridges in ECCO mode.... I am not saying either way I can only go by what I saw during our testing of the unit we purchased.

    I have had 2 Dokio panels and experienced 2 problems. After 2 years - I noticed the Nylon case fades in the sun here in southern Arizona. Output also gradually reduced until it was putting out only 1 Watt. Works for a couple years then throw it away.

    • @time.to.go.outdoors9209

      Nylon would be susceptible to sunlight/UV and heat just normal for nylon...you may be able to mitigate that with UV protective sprays... the panels have a plastic cover, did that cloud up with the sun? or do you think it was just the lifespan of the panels?

    Thanks for this and the Alpicool Fridge video. I'm considering one the Alpicool frig/freezers for camping (although I'm considering the 36L size mostly due to weight). I was interested in the power requirements so your video gave me a good idea about that. I intend run it with an EcoFlow Delta 1300 lithium battery and a Renogy 100W portable solar panel (one or two). One of the advantages of this battery (besides capacity and it can be run nearly to empty without harming the battery) is that it has a built in MPPT controller which passes the solar power more efficiently to the battery. I appreciate you taking the time to document your experience and findings. You did a great job.

    hey you dont charge your 12v battery at 20 volts. pwm controllers charging 12 volt lead acid batteries will charge more like this : 13.8v x 5a = 59watts, or 14.4v x 5 a = 72 watts. that is assuming you can even reach 5 amps

    • @time.to.go.outdoors9209
      @time.to.go.outdoors9209 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The way companies rate items, at the panel they can claim 100w because at the panel level of 20v @ 5amps they will get the claimed 100w. the loss from converting at the PWM controller is not the panels fault but understood you argument for the complete kit sake is correct!

      @@time.to.go.outdoors9209 hey good video btw. i sometimes stay up late watching these videos and dont always remember what i said or why..... i rewatched your video and appreciate it more now that i am awake. i think what i was referring to was at about @5:01 you said that pwm maxed out at 20 volts and 5 amps, you will only get about 62 watts max out of that setup. the only thing i can think of here is that you connected the panel to the controller before the battery. these 12 volt pwms controllers will not give your battery 20 volts. 20 volts sure is close to the ocv of 21.5 which is what i think your controller showed you since it wasnt connected in proper order. you probably share 300 good and accurate facts about this unit, but i wanted comment readers a chance to get the real voltage of this unit. you seem educated on this topic, which is confusing me. also mppt controller would get even less wattage than pwm on this panel. oh and that connector on the panel has a name, its called "sae". terrible name if you ask me that already means "standard american equivalent". i like your fridge idea and i may look into something like that soon, and it made for a good test/video
