Icy Royal Gorge @ 600 in Mid-December
This video is oriented towards those who have not paddled the Gorge in December (winter). It definitely goes in 2024. This video is a little longer than I intended, but I'd like to provide some Beta and show where some of the ice forms. It's not often you get these kinds of flows in mid-December. But, take advantage of them when they do. Sunny, mid-50's, tail wind, and great flows with friends. With the previous weeks cold snap, including a little snow, a few ice shelves and bridges formed. The ice shelves were negligible, but still difficult to get to shore. There were two significant ice bridges: above and below Corner Pocket. Both easily portaged and thick. December 15, 2024 @ 600 cfs.
The first ice bridge is at 33 minutes.

Kayaking Royal Gorge - Late November @ 700 cfs

It's a special treat to get on Royal Gorge in warm temps with friends in November at these flows. Flows are generally around 350ish, but a release upstream for several weeks gave us double. This video gives a general idea what to expect at this level, with most of the major rapids identifies. This run at 700ish is generally a class III( ) with maybe a IV- (Sunshine and Sledge Hammer). Horrible Swim Out of Cripps Hole on Clear Creek's Screaming 1/4 Mile
มุมมอง 3.2K8 หลายเดือนก่อน
I've run this section a few dozen times, and Screaming 1/4 Mile is my favorite section of Lower Clear Creek. Had a great run, hit all my lines, but when it came to Cripp's Hole, I was too focused on the hole rather than my boof stroke. Going left of center, I hit the drop and realized I stalled. Cripp's was like a tractor beam, it just sucked me back into the hole. I got into a long side surf, ...
