I've got a 95 OBS with the 73 my door on the driver side just started sagging probably about six or seven months ago so now I know a better way to go about fixing the door sag I've tried replacing bushings and pins and other models had an older Grand Prix after changing the pins and bushings that door never closed right again
They just use washers to shim
I have a 1991 ranger and this video helped me a lot with my hinges thank you for making this video and sharing this information.
Great video thank you sir
Thanks for the video
Ya that door handle is a B!+ch I welded mine back and it ate through but I got it until I really have to fix it haha
Couldn't I do one at a time without removing window power buttons and inner door handle? Just prop the door up? That's just my one man army thinking.
thanks great vid
This is really a GOOD video: Nice work!
the whole point of watching this was to see the process of you hanging the door. and you skipped it👎👎👎
I took a piece is Of 18 gauge sheet metal, cut a piece 1 inch by two in hand made a “washer” for the inside to bolt it to sandwiching the broken panel between the mechanism and the washer. I got my 94 f250 4 th or 5 th owner and some one had brazed the panel back together which didn’t hold as well.
Mark the factory hinge placement with a sharpie, that’s the very first thing that needs to be done. That way you know where to put the new hinges, because the slightest movement makes a world of difference. Also I’m not sure why you’d do all this work to put in 30 year old hinges, they’re gonna fail soon enough. Cp addict sells some decent quality stuff
You can just use the metal door handles that came on 80-86 trucks, instead of the black plastic ones. The 1980-1996 F-series were the same basic design, with a couple of refreshes done.
I bought hinges from Amazon. Try to mark your hinges before you remove them. it took me and a friend about 5 hours to change them. really hard to line up. mark the door and fender. Thanks for the video, it gave me a starting point.
God u ramble
How did you adjust and tighten the upper hinge with the door on? I’m having a heck of a time being able to reach the bolt heads to tighten and loosen them once the door is hung.
Long reach wrench
Drill a hole trough the hinge before you remove it the size of a nail, use the nail to align the hinge before you tighten it.
What was the issue with the aftermarket hinges? I've watched the video a few times and I didn't catch your explanation for it.
My dad used to donate to some farmer fund concert every year and he probably thought the money was going to help some farmer when it just helped the. Corporation's probably
Doorman makes a metal inside door handle, the plastic ones are a joke.
Dorman? lol Doorman would be way more appropriate in this instance
You didn't show how to adjust the door once you got it hung. That would have been really helpful
That is the part I really needed to see. I’m currently in a battle with my driver’s side door getting it rehung. I have yet to find a good YT video walking thru the process.
Your missing the striker bushing too, that helps keep it shut.
Good, complete video with tons of useful information. I'm just getting started swapping an OBS Powerstroke and appreciate the run down of the common faults and repair options too. Good on you for doing work for your Pop. You might have a personal interest in seeing that beauty stay in good shape but it is still a nice thing to do.
Been through a couple Amazon door handles, and will be attempting to put a new door/ hinge pins in today
'You can see it's been ABUDADAAAAY' Yes it has
Thanks for the info man. I have my 94 Bronco that I need to replace the hinges on also. The tab that keeps the door from swinging is worn and it’s a pain when you’re in a tight parking lot. Anyway great video. I only wish you would’ve showed the process of taking the door off but it looks like it’s not too complicated.
I wish I would have shown that too, I need to get myself a camera and tripod for shooting better videos
Hey man just a little follow up: I followed all the steps and got all my hinges off because they were worn. It turns out I need to take the entire fender off to properly align the door?? Can you share some insight before I go through all that nonsense? Trying to align the door with the fender on is a pita! But so is taking the entire fender off…
@@LordKenjii typically what I’ve done in the past is get it close as I can and get it into a body shop for a final alignment so that it’s correct.
@@hoyboygarage6763 good idea. I think i can at least do that. Cheers!
I stopped replacing pins over a decade ago on my 95 dually. I removed the hinges, drilled the factory pin holes larger, machined a shit ton of brass insert bushings, and then I took 5/8s grade 8 bolts, machined off the threads so the bolt is one concentric diameter. I left enough threads on to thread a nylock nut. My improvised pins last about 6 yrs at a time. Those auto store pins and bushings are for shady car dealers looking to freshen up a worn out horse, 😂
so uhhh, you should make and sell this as a kit. The OBS community sorely lacks after market producers of improved parts. Buy a 90s miata and you can replace almost everything with custom machined parts. These old fords get almost no attention from makers.
I had this issue with mine, carried spare handles in the glovebox for when it would break. I ended up ordering new hinges from LMC and that solved that except the door doesn’t shut right as there is noise on the highway - once the wearher warms up I will mess with the hinge adjustment as it is a bit of a chore to loosen/tighten those 3 mounting bolts that are inside the fender. I also added some reinforcement metal riveted around the handle area, and you can get an aftermarket metal door made by dorman
Haha, I love that quote “it’s ONLY got 181K mikes on it” lol, twice as much as lots of vehicles ever see - yet very true for these trucks, many have more than 300K still going strong
Way way more than 300k lol
I have a customer with 500k still running strong. Original engine and trans
Mine has 283 thousand
345000 going strong
Do NOT buy an Ebay hinge. Not the Greatest quality.
I have a 1997 f250 and it's been beat like a 2 bit whore they are tuff good video
You did great bud, looks bad @$$ 👍
Thanks for the info very helpful. I just picked up a 96 F350 CC. Broke the handle and all 4 doors need adjustments gonna try to find replacement hinges.
Doing the same swap now, except my donor is my wrecked 2002 f350. Definitely following
