What is the difference between Internal and External Duct Fire Protection? 🤔
Ventilation ducts are subject to fire stopping requirements as described in AS1668.1and AS1530.4 Section 9. These Australian standards break down methods of protection into two categories, ‘internal fire protection’, and ‘external fire protection’.
Depending on the type of duct work, for example; kitchen exhaust, fire stair, pressurization, or others, either one or both of these types of fire protection may be required. Depending on which type of protection is required, the thickness of fire stopping material can change drastically, which will affect material and labour costs.
