Trailer mover
มุมมอง 21K9 ปีที่แล้ว
Built this trailer mover from plans I bought on ebay from Clark Miller. The plans were $19.95. The plans were excellent, but it was a bigger job than I thought. I was looking for a project, so I didn't get too frustrated when it took a long time to complete. I took a couple of parts to a machinist to have drilled because of the size and gave him $15 to do it. I think I'm about $800 into this fo...

    I have been thinking about getting a Gyro for years, I have flown ultralights and GA aircraft, I have a PPL. But so many of the ones I see and like on TH-cam are no longer in business. I'm sure I could probably find an old Bensen or Brock for sell but are they out dated and no longer viable ? One other thing, the pilot is wearing a long sleeve hoodie but has on shorts, I don't get it !

    i am wondering why cant they use a cars starter motor it has a gear and is specially made Bendix to release the motor from the gear when not in use and would be so easy to install the starter motor delivers 10 horse power which is enough to drive the rotor it would work well as a prerotator

    • @beastdrent9837
      @beastdrent9837 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Car starter motors are really heavy and draw alot of power so you also need a heavy battery.

      Point well taken, cause obviously he doesn't (fly higher, well you know). Would have been more informative with a brief description of what was being performed with the per-rotator and the taxi test to verify the handling qualities in maybe a minute tops.

    Can someone tell me why some designs sit so high?

    • @larrywhalen127
      @larrywhalen127 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gyrocopter as originally presented could pitch nose over, go inverted and ultimately lead to a fatal crash. This phenomenon is referred to as porposing or PIO - Pilot Induced Oscillations, which I as a pilot, sailplane, powered, and gyrocopter, resent and when discussing this will tend to refer to it as Pitch Induced Oscillations, because there are a few other factors that can lead to a sudden rise or drop of your aircraft's nose which will lead to over correcting for the problem and then starting a series of other (over) corrections due to 'panic' which usually leads to the eventual pitch over and crash. There is a basic remedy to prevent this from happening by lowering the Center of Thrust , but due to the amount of time it takes to properly explain this, the best thing for you to do is to go onto the PRA site and refer to their explanation.

    • @roberttammerawitchey4652
      @roberttammerawitchey4652 ปีที่แล้ว

      original designs had the keel pretty much inline - front to rear. this forced the engine to be placed higher in the frame, so the prop would have enough frame clearance. The thrust line was higher than the center of gravity- Certain conditions could 'push over' this design then it's tumbling out of the sky. This is a non recoverable situation. So, stagger the keel line, puts the pilot higher... lower the engine a little, and the thrust line is now at, or slightly below the center of gravity.

    Well, you almost impressed me. Just make a PTO from your main power plant to do this spin-up thing considering the weight penalty. You could add 'electric start'... and now that you have a battery and a starter, make the starter a starter/generator to power the electric spin-up motor. All of this justifies the rest. How about this?: Come off of the main power plant with a differential. One output goes to the prop and one goes to the 'spin-up' stuff. 'Lock' the prop for spin-up, and once 'spun-up', lock the spin-up so the prop is direct. Use an overrun clutch somewhere in there. Oh-my god ... you almost have a 'real' helicopter with that. I know the swash plate stuff adds way-more complexity/cost, etc. That nonsense being said ... Kudos for the effort, and thanks for the post!

    • @ZioStalin
      @ZioStalin 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Too heavy and complex IMO. Better to use a hydraulic system or an electric one than a transmission.

    Why put the exhaust up behind you head? Those little motors are loud enough without putting the muffler behind your head. turn it over and hang it below

    • @larrywhalen127
      @larrywhalen127 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a poor location to mount the exhaust system on the mast as it will produced an unnecessary amount of vibration which sooner or later will lead to fracturing and fatigue of the mast, especially if based on the old standard of a single piece 2" square aluminum mast as first presented on the Bensen B8M gyros; this is why Ken Brock developed the redundant two piece, which consisted of two 1" X 2" side by side rectangular aluminum tubes which resulted in a much superior mast system due to fractures that had occurred in the single piece 2" Mast. Also, this is why you Do Not paint your mast, a clear coat is fine to protect the aluminum from oxidizing but paint will hide any fractures that are developing. Respectfully, Larry Whalen'
