Looking forward to that vid with you an klatt. You two are a hoot together.
You’re full of BMS lmao Couldn’t resist 😂
What type of tent is that?
Love that stove! What brand is that
Hey, another great video. Your starting to get getter at them, really enjoy them almost more then some fishing videos as they help other update stuff
Have made a couple of the 10 amp...eager to try the bigger 100ah...just need to save up some pennies! Great project my guy
Hope you do a review after using this battery. Looking forward to your next fishing video.
yeah man cool !!
BMS - Battery management system, those handles on those batteries are very fragile in the cold know from experience 😂 Nice review and setup stagg
What a bummer had to unsubscribe thought it was a fishing show as a anishnabe my self disappointed🤷♂️
You could straight arm a 200ah. Look at those pipes.
Big ol pike winching arms
Wood stove is way better but more work, Stagg for the win....again.
Definitely a nice fish but doub't its a lake Winnipeg record and seeing a live release would have been nice but I guess you kept it to feed the elders. Your videos blow!
Curious. How big would the lake Winnipeg record be?
Appreciate your real word review. I switched to a diesel heater 3 seasons ago, started off not liking it as well. But like everything else little trial and error and you learn the tricks. My biggest pro is I love the dry heat over wet propane heat. Biggest con is what you said, avoid diesel on you as best as you can but that stuff finds away on you no matter what. Keep the vids coming, tight lines!
Haha you need to get a wood stove! Free fuel! Dry heat! Doubles as your cooker! And best of all, no diesel smell! 😝
So nice and easy and cheap with velcro lined windows on houses. My first one I built 20 yrs ago was through the wall cloth since velcro lined removable windows were not the norm yet. Can still see sharpie drawing from planning it on the cloth. One fix for angled stove pipes outside is to put an adjustable elbow on the end then you can adjust and point your pipe end to go level or with the wind and not get back puffed from winds.
Haha oh wow that’s crazy!! What brand of tent was this?!
@@staggontheline It was a 6x12 double hub that had L&M logo on it. Stores must've been contracting their own little brands back then. It's blue so I figured it was a Clam with other logo. Non-insulated.
If you don’t have enough Velcro , Your cooked ! lol joke , gotta make do when a guy don’t live beside a store , that how most my projects go lol always never enough and making it work , as a trip to the store isn’t cheap and takes time ,
Haha agreed! There’s no mail box either where I live, I gotta get everything online shipped 3 hours away and pick it up there!
Too damn warm in that tent to make babies 🤣😝 #snaggontheline
😂 is that that kenora style??
Landlords don’t want you to know that you have the materials to build your own ice hub stove jack that you can harvest from your apartment 😂
Haha! No kidding!! What about home owners??
@ 😂
I love seeing your bomber and people hauler in the background that's everyday here on lotw
Hahaha that’s a whole other part of my life right there 😂
@staggontheline 25 guys are day asking what depth are they biting today?, what color is best today?, where do you fish?, never gets old
How did you run the exhaust out of the hub?
I ran it underneath the skirt, with a platform underneath the heater because I had a problem with the exhaust melting the ice and creating a big pile of water, and then folded welding welding blanket a bunch of times so that it was nice and thick and put it on top of the exhaust, and then shoveled it all in so no drafts or air could get in
Wicked imma fo that to mine me and the wife are gonna start going out soon
Heck yea dude! That’ll be sweet! What area you headed out in?
@staggontheline we are in Armstrong Station ON area. A lake called Dalton good area to catch walleye and northern
@staggontheline when we do we will go live forsure
Great idea, thanks for showing us how you did it. Can't believe I never thought of that?
Haha I can’t take all the credit! I seen a video where they just used regular Velcro, and non adhesive, and they just drilled holes and riveted the Velcro to the sheet! It’s was honestly just a test for my first one I made. But so far I’ve been using it for 4 years! And not a single problem. The only problem is I lost it under the snow somewhere and don’t remember where 😂, so figured I’d make a new one and make a video of it to show everyone!
@staggontheline Still a great idea and thank you for sharing it.
Just found your channel and subscribed. Great idea thank you
Welcome to the crew! I hope you enjoy the content, let me know if you have any suggestions for future videos!
Dialed
Haha only made this one because I lost my other one under the snow somewhere, figured I better make a video out of it! How’s your wood stove holding up?!
@@staggontheline well we use to run a stove in the old 450xd (welding blanket style) ended up burning a hole through her lol haven't used a stove in the 650 yet. Maybe I'll adapt this way tho
chop down some trees and stay another day... if your old lady lets ya ! Nice, Stagg!
Been trying to get to these final steps but ive only went passed buying a mini wood stove lol 😅
If a guy wanted to spend extra money. He could buy one of those rubber things too and bolt it to the sheet on metal!
@@staggontheline i might go that route. And who sells the welding blankets? Princess Auto? Home Depot? Or the ever growing one-stop shop- Amazon?
Awesome , thats a great idea , thanks for sharing !
It’s all about being prepared for the next whiteout 😝
No doubt wood heat is the best!
Fail proof!!! And If you’re good enough you don’t even need matches or a lighter 😝🤣
I’ve seen it in action and well…..it works. Just make sure you ask your dad first before you use his power tools and stay safe
Only Hand saws and diesel heaters for you Mr reel life!
😂
This is an awesome review and insight for ice fishing. Almost all reviews are for folks tent camping on land or on suv topper tents. I got the Hcalory brief case style heater and was disappointed with the heat output vs a Mr Buddy large. I felt the diesel heater on high setting had less heat output than the Big Buddy on medium. Love the dry heat and now just use it to heat the garage. The Buddy heater (have both sizes) have never failed for any ice camping expedition. I always bring the big and small Buddy for backup for multi day ice camping on rhe lake. I’ve been looking at the spendy LF Bros and Sparks overland as they are built so much better at 5-10x the cost but I still worry about it not putting out enough heat. Mr heater Buddy will heat you out at 18k btu in -20F in a huge Clam X900. Great insight man.
Agreed! There was no video out for ice fishermen! Everyone even had me food as to how “awesome” they were, but just like you said, most of them were small over land tents or smaller ice ice hubs, and nothing below -20f
Bought one of these to change out my woodstove in the monster lodge but looks like it's gonna be a shop item. Thanks feller
Haha yes! Not worth it if you have the wood stove!! We can’t take them for granted!
Diesel leaking is a deal breaker for me
Since I published this video, I have learned there an air vent pin sized hole, ppl are saying they put like plastic bag under the lid and screw it on before transportation. But even without spilling diesel, your tent still smells like diesel bad just from the blower, it’s kinda like being in a regular shack with a wood stove. And you get home and your clothes smell like campfire smoke. It’s like that but diesel smell, today I had a clean yeti mug from this same trip that I unpacked from a Rubbermaid box and Because I never used it, I thought it was still clean. I filled her up with coffee and went to take the first sip, and the little rubber magnet part absorbed the diesel smell, and my first taste of coffee tasted like diesel 🤢🤢, and its stuff like that, that other people don’t tell you about
That's a beast!!! Dr has massive pike man
Thanks for this video man! I really wanted to get one for camping but now think I’ll stick to the buddy heater and CO detector 🤷♂️
Yea! Nothing wrong with old faithful!
3 heaters my life have never let me down. The Sun the Big Buddy heater and a wood stove. I bought a Chinese diesel heater, before I can burn a full tank of fuel it had a critical error of the control circuit. If you're going to spend the money get the German diesel . The Chinese ones are typical Chinese crap
Sounds like the start of a country song if ole Merle haggard was into ice fishing 🤣
I didnt get rid of my gas auger just to get one of these a few years later lol...feels like similar issues all around but gas augers were less finicky. Great review...big buddy with some good fans works great for us camping 48/7, 165
Hahahah 48/7 😂
Wood heat for the win!!!! it can cook, not you..
Hahah never seen a guy cook with a diesel heater!!
Great review Dan! hope you feel better soon 😂😂 those south winds will get ya
Hahaha you pasted the test sir, I know you have watched right to the end ❤️❤️
Great review, oil of wintergreen, a couple drops will get rid of the diesel smell. Must be natural not synthetic. My diesel heater works great for heating my wife’s small greenhouse in the spring. Bought it but after looking at it decided it may be a bad choice for winter camping, because of all the issues you are talking about. Propane has its own issues, and I prefer to use only on day outings . For over night or longer wood is my preference. Winnerwell needs to make an extra large size stove for the Eskimo 850 and the otter monster hub. The large size works great for the Eskimo 450, burning seasoned birch or ash wood, set your alarm for every 3.5 hours and you will not wake up cold. For a back up plan my riding gear and boots stay with my snowmobile. Not in the tent just in case I have a fire and loose my tent. This has happened using propane. 😎
Haha boots outside! Wow I never even thought about that! That’s crazy!! It’s is true though! It can happen!
Yep I wear wool lined moccasins with the rubber soles in my tent , very comfortable.
I think I’ll start doing that, I wear crocs in the tent!
Absolutely perfect review, let’s go stagg, can’t wait for Clearwater videos ! Love seeing home lake giants
Haha soon!!
My opinion the diesel heaters are good for hard wall insulated shacks , mounted in solid where they can’t move or bounce around and , where you can have fuel tank mounted outside , and a lot safer installed, using for tents or packing them around , is asking for problems , it’s not if , but when they happen , as they aren’t built that strong to bounce across the ice all season , and spilled diesel on anything isn’t fun , not to mention if diesel heater fails to work, I have diesel heater in my hard wall insulated camper and works good but also have wood stove for back up and day time use , GOOD review and totally agree , you sleeping on coolers 😂had laughing ,
Haha yes!! They’re still great for many things but something not! Agreed!
Hey Stag I am looking at a pellet wood stove and the wood stove part can be used for a cooking owen. One full bag equal to a 5 gallon pale in Thunder Bay is $8.oo for a full night of berning. I’m waiting for them to be on sale.
Where are then on sale?!
@@staggontheline It’s new and it’s fantastic and seen bags if pellets sold at Canadian Tire. The stove itself does have reviews tenting but man oh man they are selling these stoves out fast out of the us.
@@staggontheline The us base company is called GREEN STOVE with great pellets stoves. TH-cam videos on this stove.
I’ve actually seen that stove!, looked like something I could I use! went to purchase it and they’re sold out! A few months ago!! 😭
@@staggontheline Yes I also want one as well and don’t half to worry much about burning your ice shelter roof fabric at all. One bag equal to a 5 gallon bucket lasting all night. 8 dollars in one entire night is not bad. I think this is a way to cut cost on propane and you don’t half to get up every 4 hours to had anything in it. There is a trap door down the shoot and pellets feeds the fire itself for you.
Thanks for your honest review honestly I wouldn't use a diesel heater. I have a long Bumpy ride In. And would not wanna deal with the diesel fuel And spills. Propane for me
Get a wood stove man!!!😄
@staggontheline yeah I could but It's a 3 mile rough ride into the Lake. So I would need another sled to haul wood and the stove
What I do is just take the stove and chain saw, together size wise would be about the size of the big buddy and two propane tanks, plus I don’t have to take any cooking camp stove cause I cook on the wood stove, I take 2 logs that I toss in the front of the sleigh cause they can get smashed up, doesn’t matter, then once camp is set up, my sleigh is usually empty, I use the two logs to get the fire going, I drive to shore with my empty sleigh grab some wood and then come back! Hopefully you don’t use a flip over shack then non of this would be relevant 🤣
@staggontheline That's a pretty good idea there. I might just have to give that a try. And I do not use a flippover I use the Eskimo 5 I or 3
I’m currently making a video how to convert any ice fishing hub into a hot tent without cutting your tent! It’ll be up on the channel Sunday evening! Maybe that could help!
How many kilowatts is that particular heater? Is it the 5KW or the 8KW? I built my own 8KW in a box and I keep it outside my tent, rather than inside. I have the otter resort flip over and a hub style otter resort as well. When I first set it up, I could not stay warm with it using the heater discharge line they provided, I went and bought a fully insulated line for the heat discharge and it does not matter how cold it is out, the heat coming out of it is very warm and that line is cool to the touch. It made all the difference in the world. I love the heater, but I have been fortunate so far as well with no spills or leaks. I switched because I had to many issues with the big buddy not starting once it got to -25.
It’s the 8kw, I run it inside to maximize the heat, I can’t even put my hand in front of the blower without burning it’s so hot, but unfortunately just can’t keep up when the weather is like it is, and I’m a guy who can’t plan around weather when I have time to fish, so I go a lot when the weather is raging whiteouts and extreme cold warnings 😂 I’ll keep the diesel heater at home for shop work and small outtings around home, I’ll stick to my wood stove 😄
I am confused as to why you would use one over a Propane heater? It sounds like there is no real reason to. Also some of the power banks out and coming out are wicked good, they might be a little pricey but hey welcome to fishing I hope you brought your cheque book!
20 lb tanks last about 24 hours on high, when I do my 3 day camping outs, it adds double the weight than my wood stove and Chainsaw, If you’ve seen my other videos, I use nothing but a wood stove, propane adds moisture to the air when it burns which is why you get that frost building up on the inside of your tent, so everything gets all frosty and wet sometimes, and diesel heater has dry heat just like the wood stove, and that would be my opinion as to why someone would use one over propane,
Moral of the story. You're cooked🤣
Hahaha yes 🤣
All the reviews on these things are people preaching about how amazing they are but they must be down south somewhere. I have a clam x800 and I run two diesel heaters and in -35 with zero wind at all I could still see my breath. Convenient and really move the heat around the tent but the heat rating on them aren't accurate unfortunately
Haha wow! Glad to hear that feedback!! Even more interesting!
Sounds like fun 🙄 good job
Hahaha 😂
Happy to confirm all the cons are accurate 🤣
Hahah glad I have someone to agree with!
This is one of the best, most honest reviews I’ve ever watched. The footage of you sleeping on the coolers made me laugh 😜
Hahaha yup!! Video credits to this guy on the sleeping on cooler scene 🤣^^^
@ credit is more to you for not making me sleep on the coolers that night 😂
