Christine's Knitting Room (formerly starpunzel)
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 2 มี.ค. 2009
Welcome to my knitting room! I am an avid knitter (by both hand and machine), crocheter, and crafter at large, living and working on a small farm in the Driftless Region of southwest Wisconsin. I don't do big productions in a studio, I just want you to feel like a visitor in my home. Most of my videos will be project based although I will occasionally do some on techniques. My goal is to have easy but beautiful projects that a beginner can do, while learning new skills. Thank you for stopping by!
Better Yarn Winding
Just a couple of quick tips to help with yarn winding! the yarn winder I'm using is a Stanwood. I like it for its nylon gears - it winds very smoothly. you can order them directly from the company.

This is what an American Cancer Society Relay for Life is all about - people coming together to take up the cause of beating cancer. These photos are from my 2008 Relay Team. I have been doing Relay since 1997. It's an awesome event and raises funds for some really important work. Read about my team at main.acsevents.org/goto/JBCW
Really well done instructions thanks so much
Thank you! I hope you enjoy the project!
Gotta give this a go ! Tired of wasting yarn n time - need to buy this thinner stuff
It takes a little practice sometimes. Good luck!
هل تنصحيني بقتنائها هل هيا جيدة ؟
The LK150 is a very versatile machine and you can use a variety of yarns with it. I use mine a lot. Watch as many videos as you can find. That will help you decide if it is the right machine for you. Thank you for your comment!
If you have a knitting machine you really need an ultrasonic cleaner that will accommodate things 6” or more (mine was $35 on Amazon). No more jars and overnight soaks. Put them in the cleaner in batches (easy to track where on the bed they were and consequently where you’re going to replace them). On my standard machine I swap by batches of 50 then put them back in in a pattern of right outside 50 goes back into inside left slots and left outside 50 going back into the right inside slots. Switch the next two batches the opposite way. Some people just switch by 100s. Either way be sure to give those center guys a rest.
This was lovely thank you 🙏🏻
Glad you enjoyed it!
Hi, I’m just learning about your channel, and I would like to know what size needles you used for the bind off, the size recommended by the yarn label?
@@claudiacano4916 that would be a good starting point. In general, if you are mixing hand and machine techniques, you want to use needles that give you a gauge that matches the machine knitting. But if you are just binding off, you just want to be sure it's neither too loose nor too tight. Thanks for your comment, that's a great question! I hope you try the hat!
This is a fabulous project just making sure your yarn drapes nicely❤
Que ideia maravilhosa! Eu ficava pedindo pra que não jogassem fora o rolinho do papel higienico, com sua dica acabou se a amolacāo de guarda o rolinho! Muito obrigada ❤
Es precioso!! Gracias por el tutorial
I am so happy I stumbled upon your channel. You did a marvelous job explaining the steps. The hat/cowl is darling. I am going right to my knitting machine and give this a try.
Thanks for the kind words! I hope you enjoy knitting the hat - it's one of my favorite projects!
Love this! I just got my HK 100 and I think my first project will be a baby blanket in this pattern for my daughter.
Sounds great, I hope it goes well for you!
Amazing! Thanks
You're welcome! I hope you try it!
I'm looking forward to seeing the project!
😁
I love that ball winder. Where did you get it?
It is a Stanwood and I love it! It winds very smoothly. I ordered it directly from them.
Thank you so much for your very useful video about all those brilliant and handy items! I have a question concerning the rolly stool: can you block it from rolling when needed, e.g when knitting? Does it not roll away when you need to apply pressure on your carriage?
I have not had a problem with that. My machines are on pretty sturdy tables. Generally, having my feet firmly planted on the floor keeps me from rolling. If I'm really having trouble pushing the carriage, I general grab the end of the table to help with pulling it. I hope this helps!
@@christinesknittingroom Thank you so much for your fast and useful reply!
Που μπορώ να βρω μετρητή σειρών;
On the third demo could you reform the purl stitches if you dont have a ribber. Thanks for sharing these techniques
Yes, you could leave that needle in work, then drop 8t down and latch it back up. However I find that just leaving the needle out of work is a very effective mock rib.
Thank you I can't wait to try this on my new LK150, I'm a beginner and I believe I can do this one,. Hope you make more videos like this for people like me, Thank you so much
You can do it! Welcome to machine knitting - I hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for taking time to explain the conversion from hand knitting to the machine.
AMAZING!! Youre a great teacher! I used yur pattern to try to swatch out and count a scarf that ends in points on each end, on my LK150, using about 45 stitches wide for themain part of the scarf. I like how you teach. Its easy to replicate the technique!
That's sounds great - glad it was helpful!
ok mine doesn't look like that, but its a pattern fabric woo hoooO!!!!!
Glad you got something! Don't give up!
That’s a beautiful stitch. I’m new to knitting on a machine. Do you have a video for beginners that explains this tuck stitch?
This is about as easy as I can make it. Follow the steps and you should be able to do it. Thanks!
I just have gone back to machine knitting. I know I have to clean my machine but I have no idea where to start. Did you do the video on how to clean your machine?
Hello, I'm so sorry, but I have not been able to get to it. We moved to another state recently and it's been quite busy! I'm sure if you search on youtube with the name of your machine, you will find one. Again, so sorry I have not been able to help.
Great instructions and I love the combination of colors and patterns.
I'm glad you like it. I hope you will give it a try!
That music is something to come back to. So beautiful.
One of my favorite pieces by my favorite composer. I'm glad you liked it too.
Hi Christine. Can the body of the dtockinette be done in a lacy pattern by hand manipulating the stitches like you showed in a previous video
Yes, absolutely! What a great idea! As always, do a test swatch to see if the lace pattern works in the number of stitches and rows.
Thanks for posting this video and simplifying. Love you videos How would I convert the pattern for a bulky machine? ❤
If you are using a worsted weight yarn, I think you could do a gauge swatch and calculate from there. There is a lot of crossover between a midgauge and a bulky. Sometimes it's just a matter of tension dial setting to get a similar result.
How exactly do you do the hand-knit bind off? Do you have a video or any written instructions?
I do not have any myself, but I can recommend Very Pink Knits here on youtube. She has lots of nice tutorials for handknitters.
Nice and easy
Love the idea of keeping a bin under the machine to catch the work and keep it clean, that also works as a sweater (or project) bath. Ingenious!
Glad it was helpful!

Lovely. Thank you!
Thank you! I hope you will give it a try!
Very nice!
Thank you, I hope you will give it a try!
Thank you, will definitely make this following your very clear video instructions
I'm glad you like it, and I hope you enjoy knitting it!
Love this tuck stitch! What weight yarn and carriage tension are you using?
I'm glad you like it! I don't have notes any more, but this was probably a sport weight yarn and I'm guessing I would have knitted it at TD 3 or 4. You can experiment with the yarn you have until you get a fabric you like. I would not go with a thicker yarn though, as in my experience, it won't tuck well. Good luck!
Thank you for the tip on using crochet thread. When I trim my poms I use 2 circles about the same size as the pom. One circle has a hole in it and I put the attching thread through it and the other on the bottom. I squeeze the pom and trim. It works for me. I’m not really steady enough to trim the way that you do it. Thank you again.😊
That is a GREAT tip, Cathy! Thanks for sharing!
I love all the suggestions for using the beautiful pompoms that are decorative and useful. Thanks for the video.
beautiful!
thank you!
Love how you weaved In thé tail
I hope it's helpful to you! 🙂
both side are really nice
Thank you, I hope you give it a try ☺️
@@christinesknittingroom I'm just getting back to knitting and I'm playing around with some pattern idea's so I can do this into my pattern
What was the name of the little clips that you got on Amazon in the tin?

Can you tell me where did you buy that small vacuum thanks
I found it on Amazon, but it doesn't seem to be available there anymore. It is called the Fuller Brush Mini Maid Hand Held Vacuum. Looks like it can be found at places like Lowes and Walmart.
Beautiful stitch. How would you finish the edge
Thank you! I usually do a round of single crochet in the main color, then a few rounds of a complementary color.
Yasssss, thank you this, i just got a knitting machine and im.not trying to do myself in knitting for holiday gifts
Thank you for dealing in depth how to “emboss” or lend more height and texture to transferred stitches. The double transfer method produces a far superior and satisfying pattern. If you are going to do all that work anyway, why not add the extra step for a spectacular result.
I'm glad it was helpful! I agree - the extra step is worth it!
Very very pretty. I picked up some new-to-me techniques and look forward to watching your other videos.
I am glad to hear it, thank you!
Hello from the UK. Fabulous tutorial video, love the way you present. Inspired to try this shawl on my standard gauge machine with 4 ply.
Thank you! I hope you have success with it!
Thank you for this excellent video! I just found a new LK 150 at a thrift shop and set it up. I hope to be making this shawl/scarf soon. You are an wonderful teacher and I will be following your videos.
Thank you! Great find at the thrift store!

What a lovely variety of the same pattern. Love it and going to try it. 💖
