During the age of exploration, oftentimes explorers would find their circumstances too difficult and would seek the comforts of their ships to escape harsh conditions. In a few circumstances, their leaders would call out and say, “there is no going back, this is the new world” and then command the ships to be burned, causing the party no choice but to move forward.
Recently I’ve been reflecting on this idea of ‘burning the ships’ from the lyrics of a song my wife shared with me. Asking myself, what ‘ships’ in my life do I need to burn and leave behind?
I’ve come to learn that as we turn to Christ, He will show us our weaknesses1, what we can do2, and what we can leave behind to become closer to Him. The Holy Ghost will speak to our minds and hearts3 teaching us what we need to shed as we seek to take our next spiritual step...
