Videos taken while flying. I trained for my private and instrument ratings in a G1000 equipped Cessna 172 and built time in Cessna 182s, mainly turbo and one was a 1979 RG (retractable), before plunging in and buying my turbo normalized A36 Bonanza. Videos have progressed from regular definition, hand held to more sophisticated mounted HD cameras, both inside and now outside the plane.
IFR Napa to Sacramento. Dec 12, 2024.
I had to take my plane to Sacramento to have some avionics work taken care of. The night before this was a storm, and another one was coming in late on the 12th. Fortunately there was a gap between with just clouds, and no icing at my altitudes. So I filed IFR and dropped my plane off. Lovely flight.

Napa Seattle Flight
มุมมอง 233 ปีที่แล้ว
In mid July 2021 I flew from Napa up to Seattle on business. I stopped in Portland, OR along the way, at the Hillsboro Airport, to meet up with some old neighbors. That was very pleasant. On the way back, taking off from Boeing Field was spectacular and my favorite type of departure from there, through a marine layer to see Mount Rainier rising through it. It's just spectacular. This is why I l...
2021 02 20 Low and Slow Napa Flight
มุมมอง 383 ปีที่แล้ว
I was going to go flying today but met my fellow pilot friend, Duane, who invited me to fly in a 1946 Aeronca Champ he pilots. Very different experience. Low and slow, and sat front and back. I thoroughly enjoyed myself, as I got to see things I usually don't when acting as the pilot. I generally fly much higher than this. Napa and the surrounding areas are lovely this time of year: green and b...
Oxygen Concentrator Test Flight
มุมมอง 1.1K4 ปีที่แล้ว
It's been a long while since I have posted a video. I just got my plane back from it's annual and also bought an oxygen concentrator, which means no more bulky oxygen bottle up to 18,000 feet, and so no limit on how long I can fly at altitude, based upon the size of the oxygen tank. So I took my plane up to 14,500 feet to make sure the turbo, engine, and concentrator all worked fine. They all d...
2018 02 03 Napa SteepTurns
มุมมอง 66 ปีที่แล้ว
Feb 3rd, 2018. Unusually clear and dry weather (ie cloudless skies) for February meant I could go up to a decent altitude (12,500) and practice some steep turns as well as open up the throttle and enjoy a little fast flying. No flash or fancy video today, as all my GoPro type cameras happened to have dead batteries and I didn't recharge them in time, so it was a simple camera on the top of the ...
2017 11 11 Napa Sonoma Flight
มุมมอง 667 ปีที่แล้ว
On November 11th, my friend and I took a flight over the Eastern Napa hills, to see the fire damage. We flew up Napa and over Santa Rosa, where the damage was startling. The morning was foggy, so the flight was delayed, but there were a few thin clouds around so we got to fly around those (they were transparent and we didn't get that close, regardless of how the video looks). It was a lot of fu...
August 2017 A Flight from Napa Palo Alto And Back
มุมมอง 137 ปีที่แล้ว
A quick flight from Napa to Palo Alto and back, trying out the new camera mounts. I may actually fly soon and get all cameras to work in the right order for the duration. The Garmin camera this time ran out of space for the flight back. Good grief. Also, it's GPS data seemed to be a little off -1400 feet... seriously? It was a brief flight, of about 25 minutes in either direction so I didn't fl...
August 21st 2017 EclipseFlight
มุมมอง 1057 ปีที่แล้ว
The route of flight took us up the California Central Valley to Redding, which was ridiculously hot. We flew up to Redding on August 20th, got up early on the 21st and flew up to Oregon to experience the total eclipse, from 2 miles up, above the clouds and smoke. It was an incredible experience. Watching the shadow of the eclipse move across the ground, then the light return was breathtaking, a...
2017 05 06 Cloud Flight
มุมมอง 337 ปีที่แล้ว
May 6th, 2017. I took a flight out of Napa over the Central Valley, briefly topping out at 15,500 feet (above 12,500 feet for less than 15 minutes), just to give the turbo and engine a good workout. East of Napa was a fantastic cloud bank which gave me the chance to do some cloud surfing, staying legally above the tops. My plane has active traffic too so I was keeping an eye on any nearby aircr...
Napa Monterey Flight April 29th 2017
มุมมอง 417 ปีที่แล้ว
My friend, Greg, and I flew from Napa to Monterey and back. We used flight following as we'd be transitioning busy airspace, as well as both Class B and C airspace, so this made it easier. The routing on the way there took us south along the 680 corridor, over San Jose international airport to the coast and then following the coastline to land at Monterey. The batteries on both the external and...
2017 04 09 Napa Sonoma Flight
มุมมอง 237 ปีที่แล้ว
I took a quick flight up Napa Valley and back down Sonoma Valley. The weather was perfect after yet more rain, so it seemed like a perfect day to fly. There were a few, thin clouds I met along the way, perfect for flying over and through (as long as I could see through them). As I was approaching Napa airport, on short final, a jet took off right before my landing, so I had to approach high and...
March 12th, 2017 Yosemite Flight
มุมมอง 2897 ปีที่แล้ว
We took a flight from Napa to over Yosemite, as the weather was perfect and circled around the valley a few times before flying home. On the way back, we flew along Napa Valley before landing back at the airport. Music is "Gift of Wings" by Ozric Tentacles.
2017 01 28 San Francisco Flight
มุมมอง 707 ปีที่แล้ว
Late January 2017, perfect weather and a Saturday afternoon with little to do..... so I flew from Napa, across San Pablo Bay to San Francisco, over the Golden Gate Bridge and down town San Francisco, before heading back to Napa. It was so busy there I refrained from doing several circuits. There were amazing views and I managed to capture the audio this time. A friend took a photo of me flying ...
2017 01 25 Instrument Proficiency Check Flight
มุมมอง 1527 ปีที่แล้ว
I had to do an instrument proficiency check flight with my instructor, and of course I forgot my GoPros, so only had my phone to use to capture video and photos.... which I couldn't do when busy flying on instruments. Doh. Still, got a few semi decent photos and a little video. The route was (VFR) from Napa to Palo Alto, to pick up my instructor, we filed for IFR to Salinas with a couple of ins...
Did you make a test on 18,000 ft with the Inogen One G5 to see if it worked well? Can you say something about the time you can use this device at high altitudes?
I have taken it up to 17,500 on a VFR flight. My blood oxygen was 98%. It wasn’t a cross country flight at that altitude. Have only taken it up to 15k cross country and that was for a couple of hours. My blood oxygen was 98% all the way through. I got this so I wouldn’t have to be concerned about my oxygen canister running out. I still have a regular oxygen system.
@@baejiaoflying9434 do you use it instead of the regular oxygen or as a replacement?
@@captain-michaelg I try to use it as a replacement. I originally bought it for longer flights but haven’t needed to test it for a 5-6 hour flight yet. After the pandemic most of my flights were only 2-3 hours and generally lower down.
How was your blood oxygen saturation using the Inogen G5? Have you tried it with passengers? I'm wondering if one G5 can keep my wife, daughter and I all at decent O2 levels at 15,000', or if I need to get two of them.
My blood oxygen was 98%. It's certified up to 14,000 for 2 people. 1 person to 18K. I haven't tried it with a passenger. My wife generally sits far at the back and, so she'd need a separate supply. Also, she rarely travels with me above 12K.
Just bought a G5 model. I was hoping someone had done a performance test and posted it on TH-cam. Thanks for the useful information.
I bought a brand new Inogen One G5. Looks to have up to 6L output but only up to 14000 MSL or so. I saw an advertisement from a company that markets concentrator kits but they were representing that FAA regulations require a flow meter. That wouldn’t make much sense with the pulse feed supply like the G5. It does make sense if they required periodic oxygen saturation tests which would be a much better measure of real world performance than simply a flow rate. Had you looked into the regulations at all. I just want to make sure I stay on the good side of the FAA.
Loved the view over the clouds! It's like you were flying with the angels. Digging the new camera angles too! Awesome improvements!
Thanks. Wanted to put a forward and backwards facing camera on it, for both points of view, to alternate between the view points. It'll be fantastic esp when flying in and through clouds. I will get the cameras fully organized.... one day.
Great video Simon! Great weather for shooting and flying! I loved seeing the whole sun's reflection in the water.
Wow, very smooth landing. Such beautiful shots, and I had no idea about the rainbow-disc plane shadow ever existing. What a trip! Very cool!
Incredible shots!! Looked fantastic viewing with full screen. Dig that reggae groove too. :0)
