It’s good to see 747 making his rounds, doing a little grazing, fishing for a bit and on to look for the ladies. He looks great! 🐻🐟🥰

747 and 32 both look very healthy this year. 747 caught the first fish, which I see as a forecast of his inevitable victory in the fat bear week contest this fall. The river is running very heavy right now. There is an above average snowpack in the mountains this year, so they have that to contend with. The salmon run forecast this year is for an average run between 28 million and 56 million fish returning. The forecast for Naknek is 5.6 million. I have observed the live cam all weekend and have seen fish jumping on average every 20 to 30 seconds. But the river flow is at peak currently. Not many are making it over the falls. After watching this live cam for the last 8 years, I think that it will be an above average year. The chances of seeing Otis return this year are 25%. You look pretty bad last year. But you can never count that bear out. I think that The Big Unit bear 856 will be the most dangerous bear on the Falls this year. 747 is looking like the new Otis. 128 grazer will probably return with three Cubs. Walker will probably rival the other bears with a predictable peak size and aggressive attitude. 164 is also going to be approaching his peak size and fishing ability. Competition amongst the large boars is going to be very intense this year. Many of them are reaching peak maturity this year. We will see a lot of battle scars on bears. I love watching all of this natural beauty unfold before us in real-time.
