was there that day as an 18 yr old,was my 5th cox plate i went to by 1986 ,2 as an employee @ the MVRC and 3 as a spectator,the Kingston Town 1982 was the most memorable,the year before that as well.

Did Channel 7 televise this 1986 WS Cox Plate horse race?

Backed her son Brew in the Melbourne Cup.

She was the only horse in my lifetime that was good enough to win a Melbourne cup sitting outside the leader. Incentivise in 2021 was very brave running second doing the same.

He was a great little horse but he sure knew how to get the heart racing when he was carrying your money! Dave O'Sullivan rated him as the best horse he ever trained, high praise indeed?

Still my favourite horse of all time. Used to love going to the local TAB to watch him race, used to be the highlight of the weekend.

One of my favourite horses from my early teen years. He was unstoppable in NZ at 2 then got unlucky in the Slipper in Aus. Then was the best spring 3yo in Aus in 1995 up to and including a mile. This race proves it. In hindsight his spring season needed to finish here but the lure of the Cox despite it being unlikely the horse could stay 2040 was strong. Then he could have tasted more success as an autumn 3yo in the sprint classics but got injured and that was that. A great front running cruiser!!

Got a love that call, makes my hairs stand up and take notice :).They tried there damnest to beat him, but hey a horse like him never gives up. A true marvel of the turf. They were real stayers back then. So many good horses from around that era. Good on ya Champ :).

Now that's what racing is all about. Me old mate Bonecrusher getting Waverly Star right on the line:). Well Bill that call is etched in my memory forever. Truly Superlative.

She was on a Sunday drive until the 400 when she clumsily lobbed into the centre of the track but when the giant mare wound up she ran down the great front runner vo rouge this is the best performance on a track I've ever seen.

Never mind the race, how good was the call? Best commentator in NZ or anywhere, Reon Murtha

Loved this horse!

Wow wee that was an impressive win.....Bonecrusher went to Aust. after this race and ran 3rd in the famous "Dandy Andy" Australian Cup upset with Vo Rogue 2nd, Bonecrusher did go on to run 3rd later that year in a Cox Plate behind Our Poetic Prince & Horlicks, so was still a very good horse but the flame was fading.

Damn we had some good sprinters back then.

6 on end. champion miler of 1995 hands down. What a field of dream horses. Occy before this beat Maizcay in the Todman slipper trial in the autumn and I believe Maizcay got him back in the Roman Consul. The cox plate unfortunately killed him whereas Occy needed that distance

I was sitting on the bank of Eildon dam fishing when this race was run. I had as big a smile as you could have. My wife asked me why I was so happy. I said well I had 20 bucks on the nose for the LKSM and it said to her that this monster of a horse will win the cup on Tuesday.

I've never compared Eras. but I'd have loved to have seen Winx in that race!

Was fortunate enough to be there that day to witness these 2 absolute champion thoroughbreds, brings back so many wonderful memories, probably the best day at the races for atmosphere and build up. The only unfortunate thing, you couldn't hear Bill Collins call over the noise of the crowd, everyone on the course were cheering when Our Waverley Star and Boncrusher took off at the school, was just a crescendo of cheering until they hit the line. Thanks for the upload.

Wow! Empire Rose was really caged in at the back and did well to get out and ran vo rogue down to win. Both great race Horses.

I had a $1,000 on Marscay that day, at the luxurious odds of 1/5 'five-to-one-on' to win $200. I read that Mr McGinty was not eating Australian hay ... and he cracked a bone during the race and never raced again!?! (Mr McGinty won by a developed photo). Marscay went on to win the Golden Slipper the following Saturday at 4/1. His record then was; 111111121 ... and I bet on Marscay just once. That was my life lesson - nothing in life is for sure.

He was a great horse that had an effortless running style. Always looked like he was out for a quiet jog.

This was Bonecrusher 's first big race back, after almost dying in Japan from a virus which put the super hot favorite out of the 1986 Japan Cup. He was simply Unbeatable in 1986 and never regained the same form again after the virus.Great call Bill Collins.

Magical. Unforgettable. Burned into the memory forever. The horses, the occasion, Bill Collins' immortal call. I miss the big WFA clashes of yesteryear, where the fields were stacked with quality, genuine WFA horses. Those days are long gone. Our racing is so weak now, by comparison.

what an awesome horse she is. if she was closer in the 89 cox plate when they went for home, she wins that too. Pure awesome
