In June of this year , had the opportunity to pick up a 2023 LP Tribute, in the same Honey Burst Satin finish for $850.00. The seller was asking &1000.00 , without the hard shell case or Gig Bag. He actually brought the guitar over to me, once we realized during our conversation that he lived only about 5 miles down the road. This LP was in Like New Condition, and I really liked the Satin Finish on it. As I proceeded to take a quick look at the Control Pots , he then told me that he had done some modifications to this guitar. ( ? ) The stock Gibson PC Board Pots had been replaced with a set of Bourns 500 K Pots, and the 490 R & T pickups, were swapped out for a set of Seymore Duncan Antiquity Retrospect Humbuckers . I plugged this LP into one of my Fender amps & and I was really impressed what I was hearing and the feel of this LP. I am not a Gibson Purist by any means, more of a Fender Telecaster & Rickenbacker 360 player for a long time. I wanted to get a Gibson LP at a decent price ( Not shelling out $2500.00 + ) and I had been looking at the Tributes /Studios for a while, so I knew the Specs in as far as the Pickups and the PC Board Pots. I offered the seller $800.00 since he did modify the guitar, and we agreed at the $850.00 in the end. I have been playing this LP a lot lately & I am glad that I had the chance to pick it up for the price I did , even with the modifications.

I got a 2017 tribute and I have a 2022. Had some major issues with Gibson over the last 20 or 30 years. But those are all different terrible stories. But I know what I'm getting at I saw Joe Walsh using one live. And it was a tribute it had the truss rod cover. Joe Walsh could afford Any Gibson he would want. The 2022 tribute had a terrible hum. The factory which I won't mention said oh that's a characteristics of guitars they all have their own personality. They're full of crap and I build and repair tube amps. So I decided to get to the bottom of it after a whole lot of troubleshooting and all kinds of crap because of their PCB boards I found the problem the Gibson branded potentiometers are faulty. So save yourself a whole lot of time troubleshooting because they will meter okay but they're not okay. If my posting here has a bunch of illiteracy excuse it because I'm talking to my cell phone.

Fender generally under winds their pickups so that they come across with that characteristic Fender clean tone. In fact, I remember reading an article where the interviewer asked a Fender product manager why Fender’s humbuckers all sounded so clean no matter the design. His response was that Fender will never make a very high-output pickup because that is not the signature Fender sound. You can think of that what you will and I’m not sure if he was authorized to make such a definitive statement, or the policy may have changed since then, but it’s true that most Fender humbuckers and soapbars aren’t particularly high output according to specs and are quite clean compared to what Gibson offers. But of course your mileage may vary.

Out of the box my Stratosonic Epiphone marked bridge wobble was terrible to the point I wondered if they used the wrong size posts. The tilt was so far the low E and A were buzzing against the intonation bar giving a weird dead buzz instead of a clear note. I almost sent it back but tried shimming the bridge with thin washers to get rid of the buzz. It worked now clear notes and it stays in tune. Glad I kept mine for the great tones and its different than a "normal" guitar.

I bought one of these as soon as the blue version came out. It looked awesome and sounded great, especially for a $400 guitar. I liked the layout, the switching options and the concept of a Gibson-style guitar with the comfort and scale of a Strat. I didn't like the finicky bridge and I absolutely hated the glossy neck. I don't know why Squier insists on slathering thick gloss when they have wonderful neck finishes available, like on the 40th anniversary series. Anyway, I wound up with a Sterling Albert Lee with P90s and really like it, though I would have kept this one and replaced the bridge if it wasn't for the neck finish. It's a great guitar for someone who wants something a little different than the usual Fender-style offerings.

Yup I got my studio in 2016 my standard in 2016 and my standard hp in 2016…I’m never selling them! Eventually Gibsons aren’t gonna be affordable to anyone except lawyers and collectors sad to so because I’m not a fender guy…born and raised in LA California but never been a fender guy

@@knockoutguitarist087 I can afford a higher end version, I just won’t pay it. I kinda draw the line around $1,000. They are beautiful guitars and they sound and play fantastic. I’ve considered getting a Standard many times. Just can’t do it. lol
