I wish the engines beautiful whistle could be heard today! In my opinion, the 3001 should be fully restored and brought back to New York for excursion service!
Don’t take my word for it, but I’ve been hearing rumors that the 3001 will be restored to operational condition sometime this year. However, there’s a few things that need to be done before it can return to steam.

Look what they have done on the NKP 757 (I think that's the one I'm taking about) they inserted a steam hose on the steam dome to blow the whistle 765 borrowed (Idk exactly who wore whoever's whistle). Wouldn't it be cool to see that being done on the 3001 or 2933?
This is just awesome!! In Northwestern Ohio in 1955 , it was very difficult to get to see one of these work. By 1957 , at Gallion, Ohio, most everything was diesel. I don't recall an encounter with live steam on the NYC. Just lots and lots of them in dead lines.
