What a perfect information. Are you a professional barista? I already did it almost the same way, but the finesse comes from you, no doubt. Thank you, thank you! ☕
Thanks for your comment :) Sounds like you were already quite the natural, and I'm glad the video helped a little extra! I do have Barista certification and experience though it is not my profession :)
I'm really struggling to froth milk with De'Longhi dianamica can you guide please
I'd be happy to help, but I haven't used that machine sorry. All the best with it!
Hi thanks for the great tutorial. For some time now my cappuccino maker explodes into the milk. I tried to follow your advices but nothing
Hi, you're welcome and thanks for watching. Sorry to hear that you're having difficulties with your machine. Do you mean that the black plastic nozzle shoots off into the milk while steaming?
@@tyler.martin yes it is.
@@massimilicapo I see, yes it seems to be a common issue, I've only had it happen a couple of times personally after filming the first steaming video but not since, and so I haven't personally had to make any modifications other than to my steaming workflow; making sure that nozzle is firmly in place every time before steaming. I mention the issue at 12:36 in this video and also if you head to the comment section on part 1 ( th-cam.com/video/6LZ0XKgaPbM/w-d-xo.html ) I have a pinned comment referring to the issue - It may be worth seeing what solutions people have come up with in that comment thread, or leaving a comment there and hopefully someone can share a solution they have found. Sorry to not have further advice to share with you beyond what I have personally put into practice and shared in the videos and comments. All the best, I hope you find a solution!

Checking de-scale instructions on this coffee machine every now and then. I'm baffled you pull the grinder setting beyond 1 to a marking that's obviously not recommended. And then you MAX the taste dial. And still get good looking coffee. Can't say anything about the taste though. Please explain!
I was just borrowing this machine - not sure why the dial goes beyond 1 as it's not possible to make the grinder go any finer, I think that the dial indicator is just misaligned on this machine, maybe it was pulled off by someone and put back on in the wrong orientation. Ignore the numbers and just turn it to as fine as possible. Which should be the 1 mark if the dial on your machine isn't misaligned. What you refer to as the taste dial is the control that allows you to vary how long the coffee mill spins for once you press the espresso button, thus dictating how much coffee beans get ground up and included in the extraction. I have it on the max because I want it to spin for a long time and grind up a lot of coffee, because I want to make it strong. If this causes the espresso to be dispensed in drops only, and you've given it a few runs to let the results of the adjustments show true. Then just dial back one notch less fine on the grinder adjustment dial, or adjust the dial on the face of the machine a little below max. Make little adjustments one at a time and retest. The aim is a high viscosity espresso full of colour and crema, which will taste good. It will start coming out slowly in drops and then form a smooth rich flow. Make sure to use freshly roasted, properly stored beans also.
Why do you use the hottest setting?
I use the hottest setting because the water has such a low contact time with the ground coffee when making an espresso with this machine. Increasing the water temperature means increasing the kinetic energy among the water molecules thus increasing the rate of dissolution of soluble compounds. The theory being, the hotter the water is during the short contact time, the more likely it is that more coffee extraction will occur. Just imagine sending cold water through - not much will happen at all. I wouldn't keep the hottest setting on when using the long black function on this machine though. That would maybe over extract the coffee and taste bad. I just add hot water to an espresso to make a long black/americano if I want one - I don't use the long black buttons, just the espresso ones.
The nozzle is really bad on the magnifica S for steaming, I have a Delonghi magnifica S (looks slightly different to this one) when I tried steaming without the outer nozzle - as the pressure increases the other nozzle explodes off of the machine… happened multiple times I even tried duck taping it on and after a while it will come off
Doesn't it have this lock when you turn it to one side?
Really Helpful. many thanks.
Cheers, thanks for showing your appreciation, glad it helped :)

what happens if you touched the grinder with the machine paused?
It depends, likely no problem unless excessive force was required to twist it. You just may not be able to turn the grinder adjustment dial easily while the mill is stationary because of coffee bean fragments lodged in the grinder creating resistance. Applying excessive force to make the dial turn could result in breaking it or wearing the grinder. If the dial happened to move freely in clicks when making an adjustment without the mill in operation then you've likely not done any damage., particularly if you only adjusted by a notch or two. Also if you were to adjust to a coarser grind without the mill in operation you wouldn't be working against the same resistance of coffee bean fragments you'd encounter trying to close the gap in the grinder to a finer grind setting, so again less chance of damage. I'd say in most cases when turning the dial with the machine 'paused' , the coffee beans will likely jiggle out of the way and so the adjustment will be made without damage, particularly when adjusting coarser or just by a notch or two, however that may not always be the case - especially when adjusting to a finer grind. So to avoid damaging components it's best practice to reduce strain applied upon them by having the mill spinning while making adjustments. While the mill is spinning, the adjustment dial operation requires minimal effort to turn, and therefore no parts are being excessively forced, subsequently reducing wear and risk of damage.
Got one of these machines from someone that turned the dial 180 degrees to the other side with force(yes, the dial was literally pointing to the front of the machine, no idea how they even managed to do that). The adjustment dial wouldn't turn more than a click where it was stuck, and the machine was basically giving out light brown water as the grinder wasn't functioning as it should. The service center hearing this quoted 1/4th the price of the machine to fix it, citing user error causing damage thus not covered by warranty. Probably was going to replace the whole grinding unit. I was expecting some of the plastic parts or gears to be broken due to how badly it must have been forced for the dial to be pointing the opposite side of where it should, and worked like that multiple times in a bid to fix the problem. Opened the back panel, and found out that nothing looked broken. Was able to clean out the grinder and the gears, then turn the gears manually from inside to get it unstuck, getting the dial back to where it should be pointing. Works fine now.
Hey, what size glass (ml) are you using in this video when making the latte? And how many ML of milk? Thank you
Hey, the capacity of the glass used here for the latte is 250ml. I had never measured out the amount of milk, although the capacity of the milk pitcher is 400ml and I would fill it about half way before steaming, meaning I would fill it with about 200ml of milk.
Thank you! Just got this coffee machine and couldn’t quite work out steam pressure properly. Great video
Glad the video helped :) Thanks for showing your appreciation.
Very well explained, thanks for your time!

How do I turn the machine into factory settings
As far as I'm aware, there isn't a way to just automatically reset the digital values back to factory default. The machine can be reconfigured back to default values manually, using the same methods shown in this video. The temperature setting for me was on the 2nd increment, the grind coarseness dial @ 3.5, and the min/max dial on the front of the machine, mid way. The default values for volume delivered as outlined in the instruction manual are: Single Espresso ≃40ml Double Espresso ≃80ml Single Long ≃120ml Double Long ≃240ml For your reference the manual can be found here: www.delonghi.com/en-au/manuals/ecam22-110-sb-magnifica-s-automatic-coffee-machine/p/ECAM22.110.SB
@tyler.martin give equal coffee to right and left, so when I buy 2x long espresso, the cups don't fill evenly
If the coffee is not being dispensed evenly from each spout it could be that the machine needs to be descaled. You could also check that the holes aren't clogged by using something like a tooth pick to clear them.
Do you suggest this or the Evo? Is there any difference is quality espresso and coffee crema for the two machines?
I've only used this one sorry, so I couldn't tell you. All the best in your decision.
This is probably one of the best short form about travel I've ever seen.
Glad you enjoyed it :)
Thank you for an instruction video that is so straightforward it makes me feel like a dummy after fighting with the downloaded instruction manual. Not all heroes wear capes. 🏆🏆🏆
haha cheers, I'm glad the video was helpful, thanks for showing your appreciation.
First time I tried raw ginger root it was less than a gram. Whoa! I love it, great kick 💥👌 I sometimes use Lipton black tea with the ginger tea.
Why the red light keeps blinking and what should you do about it ?
Continuous blinking of the red light indicates that the machine should be descaled. For this particular model, you can find the descaling instructions under clause 14, on page 13 of the English manual online. Here is a link to the manual download page if you need it: www.delonghi.com/en-au/manuals/ecam22-110-sb-magnifica-s-automatic-coffee-machine/p/ECAM22.110.SB
Dear Sir, will it cause any trouble or any risk to the coffee machine? if set the coffee mill setting to number one finest setting?
Thanks for your question. The machine is manufactured with the number one finest setting to be used, under normal operation without causing damage to the machine. Please note that before beginning to adjust the grind coarseness dial, you should ensure the coffee grinding mill is in operation - spinning, as mentioned in the video. This is achieved by pressing one of the espresso delivery functions on the face of the machine. Failing to follow this precaution could potentially cause damage to the grinder and/or associated components. You are advised in the user manual to only turn the dial while the mill is in operation. Any adjustments shown in this video are listed in the user instruction manual. Should you have any further questions regarding this machine and the adjustment parameters, the manual can be found online here: www.delonghi.com/en-au/manuals/ecam22-110-sb-magnifica-s-automatic-coffee-machine/p/ECAM22.110.SB
This is useful, I have the “dumb” version (😂) of the machine, with manual controls for the amount of water… I bought it years ago for the convenience, but recently I’m learning more about the specifics of espresso and I’m trying to make the most of my machine… the “double” dose in my model does grind some more coffee, I’ve only managed to measure the time the grinder is on and it’s not twice the time of the single button… the liquid seems to be twice the volume… so now I’m thinking to buy a scale and measure the coffee ground… thanks for posting this mate!
You're welcome and good initiative there with timing the grinder duration to identify if more is ground on the "double" dose or not. Is it possible on your machine to reduce the volume of liquid delivered with the "double" dose some how?
@ good idea, it’s possible indeed, my machine adjust the water level with a dial, so I can press the “double” button, get more coffee ground and reduce the dial for water… it’s going as accurate as your machine, but it does the job 👌🏼
Most intimate cappuccino tutorial ive watched so far 😳
I was only there for the coffee, but you are such a great guy haha !
Can this be done on s smart machine?
Yes I believe so. Please check your instruction manual as it should all be in there along with any variations to programming parameters and methods. If you do not have the physical copy of the manual you just need to find the model number of your particular machine, then with this information you can then find and inspect the correct manual online for your machine via the De'Longhi website: www.delonghi.com/en/manuals/products/coffee/automatic-coffee-makers/magnifica-s-smart/c/magnifica-s-smart
Thanks a lot for your detailed tutorial .. it’s clear and helpful .. I’m done with temp, grind level 1 and max aroma and will see results .. just one question please, what’s the optimal setting for capacity of lungo and double lungo .. to achieve a near cafe taste that’s balanced and not diluted .. thanks in advance
The volume of what a Lungo should be is debatable and many people will tell you different ml amounts. I've not personally programmed a Lungo espresso button on this machine, though I'd probably try around 60ml for a single, with a slightly coarser grind. Additionally I would probably reduce the heat a bit for that maybe, but you'll have to try and see if it tastes burnt on the max heat setting for the longer extractions, and then adjust accordingly. For a double Lungo I'd pull two 60ml single Lungo separately as this machine uses the same amount of coffee regardless of button pressed, so to make a double Lungo at say 120ml by the press of one button would taste pretty diluted and I don't advise it. The settings shown here are geared around trying to achieve a better standard espresso, which works ok for mixing with milk making a latte etc. It's simply not a great machine for a decent stand alone espresso, the extraction time is too quick.
Mate! Thanks for posting this, I have an older version of the Magnífica and has the same attachment as yours. I took it off and after following your instructions, I finally made decent frothed milk 🙌🏼
Nice one :) glad to hear the video helped, thanks for showing your appreciation. Enjoy
@ thanks to you. I’ve watched several “how to” videos to froth milk but they fail to explain the basics in plain words, plus you have the same brand of machine I have. I actually watched your part 2 video and over this weekend, the way I froth milk has improved 1000%. 🙌🏼 I’ll be watching all of your other videos now 👌🏼👌🏼

How can I reset the settings ?
As far as I'm aware, there isn't a way to just automatically reset the digital values back to factory default. The machine can be reconfigured back to default values manually, using the same methods shown in this video. The temperature setting for me was on the 2nd increment, the grind coarseness dial @ 3.5, and the min/max dial on the front of the machine, mid way. How to do a good coffe with magnifica s?
If you have the same machine as shown you can adjust the settings as shown in my other video here: th-cam.com/video/ncQIFaSu0dQ/w-d-xo.html Once you have improved the 'espresso' and it is about 30ml or so in volume, you just steam milk as shown in this video and then pour it into the espresso to combine the milk and coffee.
The best video so far! Thank you! I wanted to make the coffee stronger. I adjusted the mill to low number, like zero. Put to the max the coffee and reduced the ml of the espresso shot. I still get weak coffee… i will try some more shots but i am getting worried :(😢
Is the machine new? If not I'd recommend giving it a service, working through all cleaning protocols listed in the manual under clause 13 followed by completing a descale (clause 14 in the English manual). The manual can be found here: www.delonghi.com/en-au/manuals/ecam22-110-sb-magnifica-s-automatic-coffee-machine/p/ECAM22.110.SB If the machine is new and you've tried a new fresh batch of beans still to have no change in coffee outcome, then I'd personally consider contacting the supplier for a replacement under warranty if it's faulty.
Any ideea why after around 15 sec of using the wand like you the small plastic thing burst out from pressure I guess and it makes a mess, I checked to see if anything it's broken bcs it's not locking in place. It slides out pretty easily, I am forced to use the big plastic cover bcs of this.
Hi thanks for stopping by, I refer to this at 12:33 and also in the pinned comment under the part 1 video: th-cam.com/video/6LZ0XKgaPbM/w-d-xo.html All the best.
Hi, do you find the steamer on these isn't powerful enough to create a good vortex while steaming milk
I haven't found the power to be an issue whilst using a 14oz milk pitcher. I wouldn't use one much larger, I make the milk for one drink at a time. You may find the milk steaming videos I made using this machine useful. Here is part 1: th-cam.com/video/6LZ0XKgaPbM/w-d-xo.html and here is part 2: th-cam.com/video/JrFIIMIvD7g/w-d-xo.html Part 2 may be of more use to you if you already understand the basic principle. All the best.
Excellent explanation, thanks!
Glad it was helpful to you. Thank you for stopping by :)
Hi Thx for the video 😊 What was the default value for grinder? And the higher the number, the finer it grinds? Or the other way around? And which number is responsible for thicker/reached texture? Thx :)
Hi, thank you. I don't remember what default value the grinder was on when the machine first came out of the box new, though I'd guess it'd be in the middle at the 3.5 mark. Yes the way around - the lower the number, the finer it grinds. For fuller bodied creamier coffee you use a finer grind. You just have to discover the finest you can set it to without affecting the espresso flow so much that it ends up delivering too slowly in drops. You want to aim for a steady thick liquid-caramel appearance to follow after it initially delivers in a few drops for the first second or so.
@@tyler.martin Thanks very much :). Will try...
I’m trying this to assist with some recent gut issues. Peppermint tea is working fine, however the benefits of ginger seem to outweigh peppermint for overall health benefits. Thanks for sharing 🙏
Also, what is the maximum refrigeration time?
I don't know the maximum refrigeration time, though I would typically only keep a batch like this in the fridge for up to a week and then it feels like it'd be best to make a fresh batch. I guess if you make more than you need for a week then it could be distributed and frozen in ice cube trays to preserve for a lot longer. All the best :)
@@tyler.martin thanks for the response. I transferred most of it into ice trays just to be safe. Tea packs a serious punch with only 60ml!
@@sidneymadi Excellent, haha yes it's good stuff :) enjoy
That’s a great decision! Ginger is amazing for gut health and offers so many additional benefits for overall well-being. Pairing it with peppermint tea sounds like a powerful combo! Hope it works wonders for you-wishing you a speedy recovery and great health! 🙏🍵
Have you ever measured the dry grounds of using the single and double shot settings?
I have not, though from memory I timed the duration the coffee mill spins for and it was the same regardless of button pressed.

Hi Tyler........I want to know how to reverse the procedure please. My DeLonghi manual does not cover this which is in contradiction to what you said. I also read your reply to the same question in the comments below, which says to do the reverse - "if you wish to reprogram them back to the default values, then you have to reprogram each button manually. This is done by executing the same method shown to set a new value in this video" Also you say refer to the manual, a link to the pdf you supply. This manual also has no reverse procedure. So I can't do the reverse of the setting you demonstrated & that is in the manual, as there is no way I can stop the amount of coffee liquid later than when it automatically stops. I fear that the procedure is irreversable which is inconvenient. Can you help please?
Sorry to hear that you're having difficulties, there is no reverse procedure. As stated - if you wish to return the values back to factory default then you just have to repeat the reprogramming procedure and stop the flow at the default values as described in the manual. The values are listed there, along with the instructions. I am referring to Clause 9.2 on Page 9 of the English manual found via the link provided: www.delonghi.com/en-au/manuals/ecam22-110-sb-magnifica-s-automatic-coffee-machine/p/ECAM22.110.S

This helped me for ages and my coffee has been great but lately the black part of the wand sometimes fire off and the foamy bubble bath is happening without the attachment anyway. I feel like something is wrong. It’s been descaled.
Hm interesting, and your technique, pitcher, volume of milk and type of milk hasn't changed? As for the wand tip I talk a little about this in another video here: th-cam.com/video/JrFIIMIvD7g/w-d-xo.htmlfeature=shared&t=751 There's always a chance it can become loose and fire off under pressure but ensuring a secure fit by replacing the rubber o-ring with a tighter fit and not submerging the wand tip too deep while steaming shall prevent the scenario.
@@tyler.martin thanks. I will check that out. Nothing else has changed. I’m having to reduce my milk volume because it overflows before I reach temperature now. 😏
🌺🌴 I applaud you for making this video. People also don't realize that having the shot sit before steaming milk makes the espresso have a slight bitter flavor. I appreciate you steaming before pulling shots. Big thanks from South California 🌴
Thank you for your kind words :)
What size milk jug (ie how many ml) is this please?
Hi, the milk pitcher shown has a capacity of 400ml :)
Legend! Thanks for doing this

Hello there, how do you return the machine to factory settings?
Hi, as far as I'm aware, there isn't a single button to just reset the controller, so if you wish to reprogram them back to the default values, then you have to reprogram each button manually. This is done by executing the same method shown in this video to set a new value. I have a link to the instruction manual in the description if you want to refer to it. The default values stated in the instruction manual are as follows: Espresso ≃40ml 2 x Espresso ≃80ml Long ≃120ml 2 x Long ≃240ml
Thanks, I thought also the same, since I couldn't find reset button, so it must be manually
Hello, great tutorial, thank you! Can you please make a tutorial how froth coffee and make the art?🙏🏼
Hi thank you :) I already have a couple videos on how to steam milk with this machine though I won't be making a latte art video. However there are many great videos here on youtube for that already!
Will this work for the magnifica s smart? Had it 9 months my coffee is so watery and weak!
I'm not sure on other models, however it shall be in your user manual if so - alike with this one, I just extracted the instructions from the manual :)
Awesome job, very useful information. Your editing and explanation were at another level for me. Thank you very much for your work!
Thanks for showing your appreciation, cheers!
