Close to optimal lap in tricky server conditions: high track grip but temperatures low enough that the tires are cooling off by the end of the first lap.
Setup optimized for lateral grip and front end response, which makes the car tricky to balance at the limit but allows it to carry higher minimum speeds with less front-end scrub.

These two laps are reasonably close, so I've pulled together another overlay. I've gone about a half second quicker than this in Assetto Corsa, and know there's plenty of margin in my real life lap as it was done during my very first time on track in the car. It'll be interesting to see how the two laps converge. Assetto Corsa car mod: www.patreon.com/posts/2022-porsche-gt4-77222092

The same course as the previous day but run in reverse and opened up, resulting in a flow that was much closer to my intent when I designed it. This was three tenths slower than my fastest run of the day, most of which is explained by my completely missing the apex of the first tig...

We managed only three dry runs (lucky even to have those) on this long, tight Salinas course. The car felt edgy, I hit a few cones, but managed this 49.560 which was enough for top time of day and first in PAX. As the rain rolled in, we made the call to hold a wet skidpad session instead, which is always a good time! Only modification: Yokohama Advan A052 in OEM sizes

Thanks to BR Racing for assisting in car setup. My fastest lap of the day from an afternoon session, followed by a little surprise T2 drift. This was my first time running at Laguna Seca post-repave. It rained the day before and overnight, leading to gradually drying conditions in the morning. The course never felt fully clean, though, so I was hesitant to fully commit to use of the exit curbs ...

The balance of the car felt totally different to Crows Landing a few weeks ago. There, I could have dealt with slightly more front end; here, the front end was never the problem. Thanks to BR Racing for assisting in car setup. First track day in the GT4 RS. Alignment specs?
Super helpful video! Have not driven Laguna for many years (and that was in a vintage 911 race car...). Now have a GT4 RS Clubsport that is entered in the Porsche Sprint Cup Challenge and am curious if you can share your sim set up? Looks like AC would be very beneficial in learning the tracks, prior to race practice. Thank you!
Incredible run man, I'm not even in the 36's with the same car yet. Could I ask you how you got into professional racing ? It would be very appreciated and interesting to see your career path
What tires were you on? Seemed like there was a little more in it but super clean lap nonetheless!
Yokohama Advan A052. Definitely more in it but in my defense this was my first track day in the car, and my only uninterrupted lap of the day - this thing is so quick that a typical advanced group doesn't give me the space I need.
@@teddyframhein I can only imagine! It did not look slow at all!
Salut my friend super car. super video subscribe subscribe .
If you plan on making more of these videos you should actually break down the little details like minimum corner speed and the differences across the track
Absolutely, great idea. I'll do this when I have real-life comparisons that are closer to optimal.
What’s your rig setup?
I have an RSeat RS1, Fanatec DD2 + Clubsport v3 Inverted Pedals, and a Valve Index - but I'm eyeing a switch to a triple monitor setup for greater visual fidelity.
@@teddyframhein Triples are my dream, but I should try VR sometime. Have a oculus laying around, you think it’s worth? Play on a single monitor
Definitely at least give to a shot. Hopefully motion sickness isn’t an issue for you. If nothing else, it’s really cool to ‘sit inside’ the car, virtually.
Wow, the AC sound is fantastic. Great driving too!
Seems like the real car is much less oversteery than the simulated one! You had to work way less with the wheel on corner exits in the real thing..
I think a lot of it is the pavement. So far, there hasn’t been a scan for Sonoma’s 2024 repave. The Assetto Corsa video is on the old, 2003 pavement.
Yup, this is one aspect. Another is that I'm running different tires in reality (Yokohama Advan A052's) that are known to be very strong longitudinally. Another is that the fundamental balance of the car in the sim isn't quite there for me: to alleviate steady-state and on-throttle understeer I had to shift the balance via roll bars toward front end grip at the expense of the rear. Plus the diff doesn't hook up on throttle application quite as well. This combination of factors is more evident here at Sonoma than at Laguna Seca.
is the AC car physics and feel of the car similar to the real life?
Close. Close enough that it's a useful training tool in fact, which was always the goal of sim racing for me. There are some differences in terms of balance that I hope the mod developers can sort out (see my other reply about this above).
That was a proper lap, well done 👍
Within 0.2s of Randy Pobst in a Ferrari 488 GTB!
You're right! To be fair, that lap was pre-repave. I expect to go faster still given the opportunity (clear track).
good lord that braking into turn 1 in real life! 😲 140 to 45 in what 4 seconds?! my brakes can't handle that! 👏🏻👏🏻
When you put it that way... Yeah, it's a lot!
clean one
I literally just got done driving the 718 Cayman GT4 RS at Laguna Seca like 30 seconds ago on AC lol
It’s not a bad combo ;)
That's great comparison! (Btw if u press F6 in AC you can select the same onboard cam view as the one in your irl onboard)
Damn, you’re right! Next time…
these cars are generational great
It's nice to see a comparison from a real driver of a gt4 rs against AC, I am impressed how accurate it came!
Me too. If not for my mistake IRL through the corkscrew the two laps would be essentially identical. Before the repave, Laguna Seca in reality was never as grippy as in the sim. Now it seems like they’re close.
Nice run
Thank you! :D
Nice driving. I’d get lost!
How did you get all those cool gauges on your screen? I use a gopro 8.
I use the RaceChrono Pro app for basically all of my timing. It pairs with a GoPro for video, OBD2 adapter, and external GPS (RaceBox Mini). Great setup.
Out of curiosity what car did you track before GT4 rs?
Both a 981 Cayman GTS which I also used for autocross, and a stint in a Spec Boxster, both of which have been sold.
@@teddyframhein Thank you for the reply! Helpful to know how to end up in a 718 GT4 RS ;)
Unfortunately/fortunately all you need to end up in a 718 GT4 RS is $$$!
@@teddyframhein hahahahaha TRUE
Insane lap! Dream car on the dream track. 🙌
Thats some great driving! Anyone know why in the US you must drive with windows fully down? For reference, in the UK we have to track with windows fully up and wear long sleeves.
Thanks! We had some good discussion on this elsewhere in the comments. I wish we could run with windows up, and probably should have been wearing long sleeves (but won't go so far as to wear my old racing suit in a road car).
Nice
Hey! Great videos. I’m a fellow GT4RS owner and will be taking my baby to autocross for the first time soon after break-in. Are there any tips you have for prep / maintenance that I should know? Tire pressures, engine oil, etc. much appreciated 🙏🏼
Hey there, thanks! For autocross, start simple, you really shouldn't need much. The car is fine out of the box. You may eventually want to swap the tires out for a set that work better from lower temperatures like the Yokohama Advan A052's I'm running (OEM sizes for now). Regardless of tire selection, something like 30psi hot front/34psi hot rear is a decent pressure starting point, and with the Yokohamas I actually drop a bit further - ~28/30 - because the sidewall is still able to support the tire (monitor for excess wear beyond the outer edge of tread). On oil, there's a new type recommended for GT cars that you may want to swap to: www.suncoastparts.com/product/0w40m1c40gt.html
Great driving! The car seems so stable. And entry is smooth.
Absolutely insane. If I could consistently pound these laps out on iRacing in GT4s I'd be extremely pleased with myself, let alone doing it in real life.
You have to tell me your camera and overlay set up. I love this. I see Race Chrono Pro but are you using go pro or iPhone?
I'm using a GoPro mounted just behind the seats using a clamp, along with a kiwi4 OBD2 adapter and RaceBox Mini S, all paired to RaceChrono Pro running on my iPhone - which you'll see in my autocross videos is mounted on the left side of the windshield. This has been the most stable, flexible method of data and video collection I've found.
Great lap.
Great lap
Wow, great lap, made that look so easy. I’m back at 1:39 with my GT4 and trying to get down to 1:37. You’re flying.
Slow hands on turn in, working with what the car has to give; quick hands when balancing at the limit of group. When done right, I'm not fighting the car and it should look relatively easy.
@@teddyframheinagree, and I know from my own laps, the videos don’t represent all that’s going on when you can’t feel the cars wiggles and G forces. I think I have similar apex speeds (except T6, I’m just slow at T6) but I’m braking too soon and getting back to throttle too late.
Wow that was awesome, let me go do that on Forza and cry.
100% throttle please 😎
There must have been a banana caught under the pedal.
Mamma frikin mia!!! Whatta lap, love the drift around turn 2 after 🔥🔥🔥
160k for this car? 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️ shifter kart feel so much faster just for 10k. Who tf are making these prices up 🤦♂️
“Who tf are making these prices up?” Economics
I mean, having tried and failed to fund a push into higher-level racing series, I get it. If the goal is to go racing, sim and karting are better options. Compared to other road cars though, this thing feels like decent value - everything Porsche can throw at the chassis, plus a true connection to motorsport in the powertrain. It's a genuine step on from my Spec Boxster in terms of pace, and it's road-legal and comfortable enough to relax in (relatively speaking) on the way to and from the track.
Impressive driving! You get to full throttle, fast, on corner exit! Nicely done.
Porsches, even the Cayman, do power down at corner exit very well :).
@@teddyframhein You're a far better driver than I am! I just did the 2-day Porsche Performance course at Barber Motorsports Park in February and now I'm eager to go back for the Masters course. Would love to have a car of my own to take to our local track. Keep posting as I really enjoy your videos.
That's awesome. Enjoy! Most everything Porsche builds is - in my experience - excellent, so whatever you eventually jump into I'm sure you'll be happy. I'll continue to post as I make progress with the new car.
Cool video
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Great job, are you running OEM pads and can you share your camber settings?
OEM rotors and pads for now, and approximately -3 front, -2.5 rear.
@@teddyframhein What do you think of the A052s vs the AD09s? I just ran AD09s on the GT3 but I'm very impressed you can turn those times.
I don’t know much about the AD09’s but I can tell you the A052’s have been the choice at 200 treadwear for autocross for the last few years. Bridgestone’s new RE-71RS is also right there. These tires are great from cold and much grippier than their treadwear rating would suggest, but do fall off at higher temperatures. So far I’ve done two or three push laps at a time and they seem fine. Grassroots Motorsports has a great overview of competitive options here: grassrootsmotorsports.com/articles/track-tire-buyers-guide/
Good lord. Sub 1:30 possible, looks like! 😮absolutely nuts
I think so. Lower track temperature, less margin, no mistakes.
Any reason why the windows are open? On most European track days the drivers are forced to keep windows closed...
Ha. Here in America we’re required to keep them open… For safety? Sorry about the wind noise!
@@teddyframhein Ha really….for safety? What’s the extra safety idea with windows open? In Europe we need to keep them closed on trackdays…funny there is a different safety idea in each country ;)
@@Franzinoin the US, I believe windows open allows someone to crawl or be pulled out of a wreck car. What’s the reasoning for windows up in Europe? To mitigate items falling out of the car and onto the track?
@@dabjabar I think that because here in america they don't know blinkers exist and prefer to use hands out of a car to show other driver he can overtake you. You know, safety...left the chat

RaceChrono Pro!
Awesome lap. Love to see racechrono pro getting some love. Are you using any external sensors with it?
Yes - a kiwi OBD2 adapter and the RaceBox Mini you can see sitting on the dash.
@@teddyframhein Hi, which OBD2 adapter? Any noticeable lag with it?
I have a kiwi 4. There's slight delay between it and the RaceBox that I haven't bothered trying to account for, and then typically a second or so delay between data and video that I manually adjust before exporting video.
Very impressive!
Impressive driving - you're not fooling around 😅
