It's amazing what one can find on TH-cam these days! I just now stumbled upon this remarkable performance. First, hats off to the solo trombonist (would that be Mr. Sykes?); the orchestra; the conductor; and (not to be forgotten) the arranger/orchestrator. I very much enjoyed this performance! I had the good fortune to attend high school with a young lady named Holly Ulyate. We both played in a "dixieland" band with high school friends during those years. I later came to learn that Holly's father was the great Lloyd Ulyate, a first-call studio trombonist whose beautiful sound can be heard on hundreds of LPs, along with movie and television soundtracks. Lloyd often used the stage name, "Lloyd Elliott." It was under this nom-de-plume that he recorded a terrific LP in the 1960s: "Lloyd Elliott and His Trombones." Mr. Ulyate was the only trombonist on the recording, overdubbing himself (with an economical rhythm section) to sound like a full trombone choir. Most, if not all, of the selections can be found here at TH-cam. Regarding "I Loves You, Porgy," listeners will immediately hear the similarity between Mr. Ulyate's version, and the version heard here. Having known Mr. Ulyate personally, I can only surmise he would agree that Mr. Sykes should be very proud of his performance here, indeed! Kudos to the entire band (and, I must mention the beautiful solo cornet work! Yes, I noticed the plastic mouthpiece!) Good luck to you all. Consider me a new fan from the Colonies.

Extremely good Trombone playing , and the band were very complementary to the soloist.
