Royal International Air Tattoo 20 July 2024
The weather was mild but cloudy which reduced the filming impact ; also apologies for the really annoying tannoy wire ! The show was slick & very noisy which all adds up to a full days entertainment for a capacity crowd.

It was due to stop to allow a service train to pass but as it was running 10 minutes late , it sped straight through to arrive on time at Oxford. As a bonus I've included a quick viewing of 60532 Blue Peter when it ran down the WCML the previous day to London.

Starting at Fenny Stratford a service train passes before Western Champion is captured on its way to Bletchley to pick up passengers . I then go to Soulbury on the West Coast Main Line to see it again on its way to Cranmore (Somerset). Earlier, before the weather broke, I caught Electric Class 86 259 on its way north to Llandudno.

New build 6880 Betton Grange made its debut on the heritage railway scene along with two other recently built guest locos 2999 & 9351.Home fleet participants were 2807 , 7820 , 7903 & 35006.

Guests were Lambton Colliery 0-6-2 No29, 45690 Jubilee Leander, & 34070 Manston. Home fleet locos in action were 506, 41312 with 1788 in Ropley yard giving driver experience rides.

Guests were 72 Fenchurch, 29 Lambton Colliery 0-6-2 & 1369 Pannier 0-6-0. Blue Peter 60532 makes a brief appearance on show at Kidderminster. Home fleet locos working were 4930, 7812, 2C127, 75069, & 13268 in resplendent new livery after a major overhaul.

Prairie No 4555 , on loan from the Dartmouth Steam Railway, is on duty for the season at the C & PR . The damp cloudy conditions give the opportunity for good steam exhaust effects in the final scene.

Starting at Quorn & then travelling to Ruddington (GCR (N) ) by Routemaster bus to view the exhibits & other activities at the Nottingham Transport Heritage Centre. Finally a last scene back at Quorn.

The RailAdventure HST travelling from Sheffield to London Marylebone on the Master Cutler. There is also a view of a track maintenance unit on the Chinnor & Princes Risborough heritage line.

Loco guests were 75069 , 52322 & diesel guests also running were the 1903 Autocar & Iris the single coach railcar. The home fleet in steam were 6990, 48305, 73156,78018,78019 & 92214. A sunny breezy day with plenty of visitors.

The 'last main line' was totally unnecessary, but the MS&L certainly gave later generations a wonderful toybox.
At least HS2 is using some of the route.

IMO, I think this event was overshadowed by the ELR’s Legends of Steam Gala that happened the same weekend
Unfortunately the GCR event had no guest locos.
@@kentonboy372I was going over what they had planned for that weekend and nothing was in celebration of the GCR’s 125th. They could of at least borrowed 506 from Barrow Hill & temporarily re-assembled 63601 and have both locomotives on display at Quorn & Woodhouse instead of 92214 & a 47. They have another gcr-themed event in May so I hope it will be better..
Fair comment but these days they have to always look at the costs, ie transporting locos is expensive.

Thanks for posting. 52322 looks exactly the same as the steam locos of CIE, Irish Railways, I used to see as a child in the late '50's. I think they were called a J8 ?
Thanks also. This engine is a Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway Class 27 built in 1895 according to the GCR brochure.

A smart move by the SVR to re-open Eardington.

Magnificent coverage of the gala, an interesting variety of operations on show with some great choices of locations too. I too managed to get some decent variety of films during the event, and was fortunate enough to have had some cracking performances as well; 4079 put on a phenomenal display with the non-stop working through Gotherington! I hope you enjoyed it! No shortage of rain there. It looks like a farm business, as it were. On that day, I went to the East Somerset. There were some heavy showers in the afternoon, but it was popular, with plenty of cars parked at Cranmore. Some footage on my channel.
