For me, the method is to find the note with the highest velocity (above C4, below C4 is usually the drum part).

You don't know what is CM I think but it's ok :) For you knowledge, the base can create by 1 person but the "CM" in itself is made with multiples persons who create a "submission" or 1 person but you need to start to be worry lol
