Thankfully I'm enjoying the hobby again as all the problems have finally settled.
Parasite Update
มุมมอง 6313 หลายเดือนก่อน
Update on the parasite situation after returning from holidays. I mention in the video that my nitrite spiked, glad to say I tested is afterwards and it's down from 0.28 to 0.18.

My parasite woes continue and unfortunately I've suffered a few losses.
Treating Flukes
มุมมอง 3056 หลายเดือนก่อน
After over a week of finding nothing on various scrapes, I found a lot of fluke on my oldest fish. I also talk about moving my UV (again).
Spring Pond Update
มุมมอง 2976 หลายเดือนก่อน
It’s been a while. Quick update on the pond. In short, parasites! Treated Trich over the past week and fish still flashing. Did another couple of scrapes after this video and found zilch. Koi keeping can be very frustrating at times.
Winter Update - New Media Update and Carp Pox

Crystal bio in them Roto Showers great stuff.......... Nice video fella.
That's right. Coulnd't think of the name at the time. 100 litres comes with it.
Nice upload, enjoy that!
Cheers
Excellent!!
Ken, any chance of the details of your auto feeder?
It's this one. Cheap and cheerful. I've only had one problem where it jammed, otherwise works well. www.aquatix-2u.co.uk/products/pisces-automatic-koi-pond-fish-feeder
Thanks Ken, much appreciated. I will give it a try 👍
👍👍
Fish and pond looking Beautiful. I just turn my trickle in up.
Thanks Shaun.
I have problems with the parasites 🦠 in my pond fluke chelodenia white spot and costia It was a nightmare I understand you so frustrating mate Now finally I’m enjoying my pond 🥲🎏🎏🎏
@@Crazyforkoiandgoldfish glad to hear things have improved.
Fish looking very healthy mate. Lilies looking Beautiful. Do you run a trickle in?
Yes I do. I run it through a big blue to dechlorinate and there's an overflow in the skimmer.
Hi/ What rate are you running it at? Would you benefit from raising it.
@@shaunleonard8146 around 4k litres per week so a 20% water change which should be enough.
Maybe pp day 1 pp day 2 then fluke medicine ?
I was told before if flukes are stubborn, do a full system clean, leave them no where to hide, do a pp treatment to reduce slime and expose them better and then use your fluke treatment, isn't it terrible how ineffective treatments are, and how expensive they are/ how much time they waste when your in need of a fix!!!!
Thanks for the comments everyone. I only had enough for one 110% Lernex treatment (allowed for drum rinsing and low trickle in). I'll scrape during the week and see if it did the trick. If not, back to the drawing board and I'll consider the options below. All I have currently is Flubenol which wasn't much use as my first course of treatment.
I've tried all the fluke treatments and the only one that has fully worked and didn't require further action was what quality nishikigoi posted in one of his videos. Absolute Parasite + at 25% overdose . Not had any problems this year after treating in late April. I tried to find the video but cannot find it sorry.
That’s great stuff. I did full day one half day two and 3 though
Have you tried full dose day 1 half dose day 2 half dose day three?
Are the flukes hiding in your Rota shower?
I did the standard Lernex. 100% day one,50% day 2,3. Seven days later, 100% day one, 50% day 2,3.
Hope, your over it. All The Best!
Thanks mate.
👍👍
Sorry to hear about your problems 😔 hope you get them sorted soon 👍 Subscribed to your channel ⛩🐟⛩
Salt dips might be worth considering, if a possibility.
You've done the right thing in removing it. When they're poorly like that, they can become an incubus of parasites for the other fish. They just seem to be the source of everything. Even worse if you add bacterial issues to the mix.
I've had success with PP dips mate. Especially good for ulcers. Touch n go it looks atm for that koi tho
I feel for you. iv'e never had any joy with fmg but found alparex works great. I think you need a kh of 7 or above though. best checking if you decide to go down this route. either way hope you get them sorted
Looking good there buddy 💯👌🧁👍👍👍
nice update keep them coming
Would love to see the filter system running
Great video
i was told to pp plastic media before use as it strips the plastic back, goes brown and helps friendly bacteria stick to it and colonise it better?
Yep, did that on both occasions. Soaked in PP for 24 hours. Neither media went brown at that stage though. Has taken 5 months for the Hel-x to turn brownish.
@@DublinKoiPond must admit, yours has gone proper brown this time. good stuff. hopefully mine will get there eventually.
Brilliant information mate
Parasites are happening to everyone Ken, the joys of koi keeping I guess, I hope you get on top of it mate.
Yes Steve, noticed that. Hopefully I'm out the other side. Just keeping an eye on them.
nice update keep them coming
nice update keep them coming
Good size choice of window.. The bigger the better..😁😉👍👍
Great update👍. I’m sure you’ll see a difference as the Helx13 starts to mature. Good to see you’ve got your electricity back, that storm disrupted a lot of things☹️. Looking forward to seeing what you think of the new media. Fingers crossed that your shoulder mends quickly, take care😊👍
Thanks Phil
Nice channel Ken, hope you are ok after your fall, and your shoulder is healing, I have just subbed you, very best wishes, Tony, Farmoor Koi😀
Thanks Tony.
Hi, yep it’s that time of year again 😞 I just wondered what exactly were your Nitrite readings coming out at? Apologies if I missed this in the video, or a previous video Keep up the good vids 👍🏻
OMG😱!!! can’t believe you’ve had such an awful fall, you need to take it easy for a while. Hope you get your chlorine level sorted🤞. Look after yourself 😊👍
Thanks Phil
If you are thinking about changing your filter media I would highly recommend circa 65% Hel-x13 and 35% Oase pond pads, this combination has absolutely changed my nitrite readings. I have 80 litres of Helx13 and 40 litres of Oase pond pads. The Helx13 matures quicker than K1 (in my opinion) but the pond pads mature even quicker than the Helx13. As you already have a ton of what you have, I would suggest simply taking out a third and replace that third with pond pads……worth thinking about???. Hope this helps😊👍. I would also recommend Bacto Plus fresh PSB😊👍. Good luck👍
Thanks Phil, I'll give that some thought. There are long slits on my bio-chamber to let the water through. I think the pads may pass through into the pond. I know K1 isn't an option with my drum. It's a pity as they seem very well rated.
Nice 👌 I’m cover my pond next week 😎🎏🎏🎏
Yes, it's that time of year.
Hi Ken, is the spare media gone? I'm in Kildare.
I still have it. Give me a shout on my email address in the About section of my TH-cam channel.
Take screen of
I didn't have to in the end. I got a good grip on the seal by moving the drum back on the drive shave.
Hi you shamfer edge seal drop in groove easily just fixed mine easy.
Thanks again, I'm certain I have the seal into the groove the whole way without shamfering. I put a small amount of silicon grease on it which helped. I undid the screws around where it's leaking to double check and it's definitely fully in the groove.
You will get a much stronger biofilm now, you have reduced the media. It will be getting more oxygen. With more media you need more oxygen and more food waste etc to work for you. In your case, less is more!
Hopefully Shaun. I'll be keeping a close eye on the levels over the next couple of weeks.
Dave from Coastal Koi said not to fill it and just put 9 kg in for the 36 inch big blue. Just done mine. I wondered what the smoke was coming out of mine, now I know it was the carbon dust lol.
Hi.Are you flow rates ok for the media? (Retention time)
I’m turning the pond over once per hour (20k litres)
Hi. Plastic media needs a good retention time. You may find the flow rates to high?
When my water goes a bit green I put in two scopes of clover blanket weed treatment and it sends it clear 😊
Hi got same trouble you seals s... and now changed seal to new uv resistand ones pure white seal mine arrived and don't fit drum mine 75mm with new seals 65mm don't cover lip drum within month leaking again still ongoing get larger seal drum useless, dvs not helpful hope get better look dvs only sell 65mm now keep me informed thanks.
Thanks. I can see from Queni Koi's site in the UK that there are different size seals depending on the drum. I'm hopeful DVS can provide the right one. Is the UV resistent one provided by DVS?
I made this comment on your earlier video, but i'll copy and paste it here too incase you didn't see it 🙂 It's a fairly common issue with the silicone seals on those queni drums and others too (I have the QK25) I've replaced the seal on mine after just 9 months from new as it can harden and even start cracking with chemical pond treatments and UV light. This causes it to lose the spring rubber tension against the inside of the drum, creating a slight gap. Which water can push through, especially if the screen hasn't been cleaned for a while and has a bio film on it restricting flow. I had the same dirt getting past the drum until I replaced the seal, Queni replaced it no questions under the 2 year warranty, as though I'd only used the drum for 9 months, it was about 14 months old from purchase. And i made a modification to my DVS amalgam to reflect UV light away from the seal.

Cheers, I'll take a look at them again. I did give them a quick look and they're still soft. My UV goes in just under the waste chute and into the centre of the drum so they're right in the line of fire.
@@DublinKoiPond It might be a bit difficult to see where the gap is, as it is very small but that was exactly how the dirt bypassed my drum and got into the bio 🙂 It's not that they go stiff, the one I replaced was still soft. They just lose their elasticity and should spring strongly against the inside edge of the drum. But when they harden they go eliptical in shape and the uneven pressure creates a gap. The other problem was the amalgam, the UV light will break down the silicone of the drum seal, but also the the plastic of the drum screen support, if you place it inside the drum. the seal is pretty cheap to replace about £50 iirc, the drum screen though is not cheap, it's hundreds of pounds... Thats why DVS reccomend to put it in the dirty side of the filter. 🙂
@@DavesKoiPond Thanks Dave. Had a close look this morning and can see water flowing past one of the seals. I’m checking with DVS as to availability. They’re not easy to get at on the CL35. Access is pretty limited at that end of my set up. It looks like the waste chute has to come out. I’m also going to move the UV back to the dirty side. Just have to figure out how I blank the hole that I drilled for it. Ken
Nice update Ken👍. I get a bit of very fine waste (almost like dust) on the floor of my drum unit which I normally vacuum out every 3 months or so. Koi are looking happy enough🙂. I do like your trickle tower set-up, thinking of doing similar in my filterhouse rather than a Tempest or Bakki Shower. Keep up the good work.
Just out of interest how much moving media (k1?) Do you have and approx how much are you feeding in grams per day roughly ?
I've 200l of plastic media. I feed about 180 grams per day. Along with the shower, it should be able to cope with that.
@@DublinKoiPond that is why you are having nitrite issues I'll put money on it 50ltrs of k1 will deal with 250g of food a day ..you have way too much k1 it sounds counter intuitive but remove a lot of k1 you'll get a better stronger biofilm which will start to then remove the nitrite I was told this by ea themselves people use too much of it
