Birdsong in the Celtic Rainforest - learning some key species
Some pointers to help you learn the three unique bird species that call these amazing woodlands of mid Wales home for the spring and summer: the Wood Warbler, Pied Flycatcher and Common Redstart. A beautiful trio that I'm so lucky to have on my doorstep here in the Dyfi Valley. Hopefully this video helps you to get to grips with some of these species' song characteristics. Don't forget to try the increasingly handy birdsong ID app such as Merlin or BirdNet. For other common bird species videos, check out my birdsong ID series.

Cast your ears to the sky, and soak up one of the most uplifting songs drifting across the British landscape. The Skylark (Ehedydd in Welsh) blasts out a continuous stream of magical, musical notes from its lofty position in the sky, and is a song very easily recognised when you tune in. Blasting out its song from atop trees and bushes, the Song Thrush's series of repeated phrases and notes is a distinctive and wonderful song to hear. Males begin singing even now in January to defend their territories, and will make use of the still, morning air at dawn to do so.
