Nice explanation about shoulder shimmy . I have a question is shoulder shimmy same as chest shimmy
Thank you! I haven't heard the term chest shimmies but I would imagine it would be the same thing as shoulder shimmies as the chest is also moving in that shimmying way There are chest pops too. They're different than shimmies but both chest and shoulders are also moving together there. With chest pops we move the chest forward and backward. They're fun to do as well - give it a go! Thankyou so much Kari I went to beginners lessons today and got montery steps thrown at me with very little instruction. It turns out after watching your tutorial that we were doing two half turn Monterey steps.i came home and watched you and i feel confident now as you took us through the basic step to the many variations. Yes, it's name is really confusing! Some do call it a Jazz Triangle instead because that really is the shape we're making with our first three steps on the move. As for that fourth step that's needed, i tell my students to think of that step as closing up the triangle. Maybe whoever created the term 'jazz box' thought of the four steps needed for the move as the 'box' part then threw the word 'jazz' in there to show that it wasn't the standard shape of a box but was instead a unique design i.e. similar to jazz music being so unique in form when compared to other genres of music. As there is a 'rumba box' in dance too, which really IS in the shape of a box, maybe they were sort of making a play off of that as well e.g. they were thinking 'since we already have one type of dance box term that really IS in the shape of a box, maybe for this new move we'll call it a jazz box to show that it's a weirdly shaped box instead. Who knows? ¯\_(ツ)_/ Either way, both types are fun to do and keep us thinking! Happy dancing! ❤️ 💃🏽🕺🏻💃🏽 👏🏽 😁

I like your steps teaching videos vary much ! Can you please tell me what is that white band on your shoe, what it is for, and where I can get it?
Thanks so much, Liz, and I appreciate you watching! Yes, on my feet I wear DanceSocks by the company called TheDanceSocks. They are fabulous little sleeves you can pull over any shoe (I pull them over my dance sneakers) and they enable you to have the amount of slide you need while dancing. I wear a white one on my right foot to make it clear on the videos which foot I'm using as often it's hard to tell via video. I always wear the white or colored one on my right foot and a black one on my left. TheDanceSocks can be purchased directly through TheDanceSocks company via phone or online. They can also be purchased through Amazon. The comany is lovely to work with so don't hesitate to go directly through them. Their phone is: (212) 396-2489. Their website is TheDanceSocks.com. The DanceSocks I wear are for bare floors but I have their Carpet DanceSocks too for when I'm dancing on carpets. I have also alerted all my students to these and the vast majority also wear and really enjoy them. Keep a pair in your purse or glove compartment so you'll always be ready to dance wherever you go!
