Crank And Slotted Lever Quick Return Mechanism | Inversion Of Single Slider Crank Chain
The crank and slotted lever quick return mechanism is inversion of single slider crank chain. This inversion is obtained when link 3 (connecting rod) is fixed. Crank and slotted lever mechanism converts rotary motion into reciprocating motion at different rate for its two strokes i.e. working & idle stroke. Since the time taken for return stroke is less than its working stroke, it is called as quick return mechanism.As a quick return mechanism it finds applications in various fields. Its quick return action is used in shaping machines to reduce the total process time while its controlled forward action is used to give clean and defined cuts necessary for shaping. It also finds application in shaping machines, slotting machines etc.

Single slider crank chain mechanism converts rotary motion into reciprocating motion, as in reciprocating piston pump, or to convert reciprocating motion to rotary motion, as in reciprocating piston engine. It consist of one sliding pair and three turning pairs. The links 1 & 2, links 2 & 3 and links 3 & 4 form three turning pairs while the links 4 & 1 form a sliding pair.
