Beck — Harold Sakuishi x Osamu Kobayashi
For years I knew of the existence of the anime Beck and its extraordinary opening theme song, but I always struggled to find the desire to watch it for fear of poor animation or non-existent rhythms.
Last December, in a moment of do-nothingness, I decided to give it a chance, and arrived at episode 5 and realised I would make a video essay out of it.
As always, I hope you enjoy the video and that there are no copyrights preventing you from watching it!

Wall Engravings - I thought life was a poem by Guy Gilles

I had this project in the pipeline for quite a while! Roberta and Lorenzo wrote it I think over a year and a half ago but I only found the time in the last few weeks to get into it. You and nothing else. I admit tha...

More than a year after its realisation, I chose to publish the short experiment "Ritratto di Rosa, all'italiana", an ideal sequel to "Portrait de Rosa, à la française". It's an experiment and as such I take it very lightly. Since finishing my studies, I have made it clear that I want to devote myself exclusively to narrative cinema, because that is what my dreams are made of. However, this Supe...

"Ritratto di Rosa, all'italiana" is the ideal continuation of the first chapter "Portrait de Rosa, à la française". The entire project, named "Portrait of Rosa" could be composed of 3 chapters or 5, or I could continue making them as long as I feel like it.

    I watched this movie a few years ago and always meant to rewatch it… The junkyard scene with the girl, has always stuck in my head. …there’s also an Italian movie called "Troubling Love"(L'amore molesto, 1995) that I saw during the same time period, and that movie was sooooo good that I had to stop watching films for a year or two, just to let my brain readjust back to normal expectations.

    in love most of his movies, somehow this one tickles me the most! The weight of this movie can't be described. Get's me very hard! Also, the bank robery is the best in cinematic history! Joe Hisaishi's music underlines tikano's mix of violence and beauty in one of his best compositions as well. Very sensitive master class of composing. And yes, >Kitano's Heart!< I agree.

    Great illustration of your analysis, but saying that "Nobody else in Hollywood neither before nor after him ever succeeded in turning from great human drama to brilliant comedy or slapstick in a matter of seconds" is quite a sweeping statement! Film history is filled with examples of filmmakers who did exactly what you described. Chaplin's signature style of storytelling, for example, relied exactly on that combination of "great human drama" and brilliant comedy and slapstick. And he was often able to turn from one to the other one in a split-second.

    Ottima analisi, è difficile trovare qualcuno interessato a Kitano in Italia, anzi quando parlo dei film di Kitano con amici giapponesi pochi hanno visto o conoscono i suoi film e lo riconoscono per i suoi comedy Hanabi è il giusto mix di violenza e “emotività” tra i suoi film ed è quello che consiglierei a chiunque voglia avvicinarsi alle sue opere, ma non è il mio preferito

    • @LucaGrazioli
      @LucaGrazioli 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ti ringrazio! In effetti hai ragione. Per la mia tesi di laurea ho dedicato l'ultimo capitolo alla figura di Kitano ai giorni nostri attraverso un centinaio di interviste di giapponesi che vivono in Giappone (di tutte le età, dai giovani ai più anziani). In generale lui è ancora molto famoso e riconosciuto a livello televisivo (soprattutto nelle fasce over 40) mentre i ragazzini conoscono il nome e il volto ma non viene più seguito come un tempo. Mentre per il cinema pochissime sono le persone che conoscono i suoi film e lo vedono come un vero autore (quando da noi in Italia è conosciuto solamente per questo).

    • @MagoMerlino717
      @MagoMerlino717 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Da noi pero è molto conosciuto per Takeshi castle, che non sono comedy ma comunque un format comico e non sicuramente intrinseco di critica velata alla società e di vita dei suoi film Oltre alle suoi abilità di sceneggiatura e come attore in se, una dei suoi punti deboli (o forse punto forte?) è che non si pubblicizza e non si da al political correct (vedesi la sua ultima critica a Cannes)

    Hana-Bi - That's the movie I will always say, when people ask me about my favorite movie. But most people don't know that movie, let alone a Kitano movie. I haven't studied film and I'm not deep into movies, but that one spoke to me, when I first watched it. That being said, the first time experience was the greatest of course. Saw no trailer, read no summary, didn't knew what this was about and what will happen. And the music of Joe Hisaishi, which music I love, adds to the atmosphere and story, this movie has. Kitano sure loves to play the dramatic hero/main character with just a minimum use of words. Well, in some way, it has a cool touch.

    • @LucaGrazioli

    すばらしい解説です! 黒澤明監督も、北野映画は無駄な説明がないから好きだといっていました。 また、武自身もそれを著書で"因数分解理論"と呼んでいます。 武のルーツは工学部なので、編集には理系的な緻密さがありますが、撮影時には台本をその場で作ってしまうという鋭い感覚も同時に持ち合わせていて本当にすごいと思います。 Great video! Akira Kurosawa also said that he likes Kitano films because there are no redundant explanations. Kitano called it the "factorization theory" in his book. Since Takeshi's roots are in the engineering department, his editing has scientific precision. In addition, he has a keen sense of perception that allows him to change scripts on the spot during filming.

    • @LucaGrazioli
      @LucaGrazioli 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much! I really appreciate your comment. Indeed, what made me fall in love with Kitano's cinema are precisely those bursts of emotion that arise from simple, brutal and unexpected cuts. But also the playful scenes that arise from everyday moments.
