Antibiotics detection in milk by Julian Guercetti
I’m working on the development of a multiplexed portable platform based on Surface Plasmon Resonance to detect antibiotic residues in milk. Making use of DNA-directed immobilization strategies and acquiring the signal with a Smartphone. This project is being carried out in collaboration with our partners at Linkoping University and aims to offer an affordable and easy-to-use solution enabling food safety controls at the dairy farm level. The DEMO consists in a step by step protocol to proceed to measure an unknown milk sample with a smartphone in real time.

In this video I explain how to turn a smartphone into an analytical device to detect food contaminants. Two distinct systems are shown. In the first system the smartphone camera is used to perform a colorimetric test. In the second system an electrochemical approach is shown. Both methods can be used for on-site contaminant detection.
