All I can say about Randy Lewis (as a former 134 NCAA wrestler), he was a damn stud!! One of the greats of college wrestling!!!

Semary was my wrestling coach as well for a year. He had such a positive impact on my life. Truly a great guy, and a fantastic coach

I remember Pemberton coming into our gym and we had no idea who Daryl Burley was and he was facing one of our best wrestlers... Never forget the shock when he beat our guy and at one point had him on his back!!! Final was some crazy score like 20-11 ..cant really remember and our guy won a state championship later that year... [of course was a different weight class then Daryl]

Still to this day this is some of the best action you will ever see in a heavyweight Collegiate Wrestling Match.

I believe D. Burley had a brother in California who wrestled "Adrian" wrestled for RANCHO CORDOVA highschool

when I came to be a freshman at Lehigh in 1964 we had national champs at the first three weight classes. Walk into Grace Hall and know you were going to win the first three matches and see some out of this world really good wrestling! Great to have the luck for me to be there.

7 future Olympic champs in this tourney! Has to be the best finals year ever two sets of eventual Olympic champ brothers.

**** 7 shots for Caruso and 0 for Fehrs in the 1st period. I guess they did not call stalling in those days. Today Lehigh practices in the Caruso Complex above Grace Hall. Mike made his money in the insurance game and contributed greatly to Lehigh as an alum. He is also a great guy.

In 1963, both Mike Caruso (St Benedicts) and Bob Fehrs (Milton Hershy School) won National Preps, but at different weights obviously. Fehrs was named OW of that tournament.

More than likely Burley would've been a four-time national champ if he didn't have Lewis to deal with. I still clearly remember the first time I saw Burley wrestle in high school. His school, Pemberton, was in my high school's (Pennsville) annual Christmas Tourney in those days. In the 122lb finals he went against our regular 115lber(moved up for the tourney) Tony Rafine who was no slouch as he was the D31 108lb champ the previous season. I don't remember the score but Burley scored at least a major decision. Rafine dropped back down to 115lbs for the rest of the season and three of his six losses were against Buena great Ricky Dellagatta. Rafine only lost 12-6 to Dellagatta in the R8 finals. He only lost 7-6 to eventual state champ Frank Major of TRS in the opening round of states that year. Going into our Christmas tournament not too many people from my area knew too much about Burley but after how he handled Rafine in the X-mas tourney finals he made everyone sit up and take notice...the guy was a beast.

Fun to watch, but too bad the quality wasn't better. FYI, Husted wrestled for Pascack Hills, not Passaic HS.

Bob was the best; period. Those of us that wrestled with him and knew him, believe and understand that Bob won at least one of the 3 matches with Caruso; especially the last one in 1967. There were some questionable referee calls in that match probably related to the incentive to make Caruso a 3 time Champ. Taking nothing from Caruso who was a terrific wrestler; but, Bob was every bit as good or better and deserved it every bit as much. There is quite a back story to Caruso and Fehrs who remain very good friends to this day. BTW, Bob attended Michigan; NOT Michigan State. He was Michigan's Captain in 1967 wrestling for Cliff Keen, and leading Michigan to a 2nd place finish in the NCAA Tournament that year.

If I remember correctly, the scores of their matches were closer as the years went by. I was at Kent State at 1967 and recall a very close match. Bob Fehrs was a worthy opponent.

Two of the best lightweights to come out of Jersey. Husted was lesser known but was Genes equal even bested Darryl Burly in the states.New Jersey state tournament in the mid to late 70's were at their toughest with guys not winning the states but winning NCAA 's. Dellgata and Baumgartner.

I think Bruce was trying to counter the cradle but didn't get his arm clear.

Caruso would walk onto the mat, chest puffed up, in Grace Hall, the "Snake Pit," with students surrounding and drumming the mat, it was so intimidating and so exciting, I remember it like it was yesterday. He'd be followed by Joe Perritore at 130 (runner up 3x to lifetime undefeated Yojiro Uetake) and national champ Billy Stuart at 137. Lehigh finished third in 1967, an amazing feat for a school that has 2,000 students.
