This 1-Trick just won the LCS — The Story of APA
#leagueoflegends #lcs #esports
The amount of work it takes to become a League of Legends pro can't be overstated. Years of grinding solo queue, refining your skill in your chosen role, all for the chance to one day hopefully land a spot in the LCS. While the story might seem familiar, APA's road to the professional scene was anything but typical.
In this episode of The Grind by Esports Illustrated, we'll take you through the highs and lows of the young career of a newer LCS name who bet it all on himself to earn a place in the premier NA League of Legends competition.

I have said it before and will say it again. There will never be another game like smash. Smash has 20+ years of trial and error to get the game mechanics and physics, visuals and audio just right. Every other game is just a copy, but there will never be another game that can match what smash has achieved with its level of density and its relevance to video games. It’s every child’s dream of playing with their action figures and fantasizing about their toys fighting each other.
Everybody look at this sad and pathetic excuse for a human being called "kitty-ricky' - a useless trans who only played video games 24/7 before he got old. Even more pathetic are the good-for-nothing chads who supported him inside that dumpster fire that is the fighting game community. ~
She is so grounded , i remember her rufus being fun to watch in sf4. Glad shes making a comeback.
I love that KiSMET loves and compliments his girlfriend and isn’t afraid to show her off as much as he does. That’s a real man right there.
Rivals is sort of involved with smash events in a solid way. Coexists well
Realistically the only smash killer is smash itself. Whenever the next smash game comes out ultimate is dying fully just like what happened with 64, brawl, and smash 4 even though people today will argue about the roster size endlessly. There isn't enough interesting tech like in Melee to keep people playing.
I feel like the only game that will even come close to having the same impact as smash will probably be rivals 2 whenever it comes out.
The level of cognitive dissonance here is staggering. That’s a man and everyone here knows it, but you keep gaslighting the world with incessant lies…. Pathetic
Look up Ultra Street Fighter 4 Halls of Hype Volume 3 and skip to 57 mins if you want a good Ricky Ortiz story.
MADDEN IS TRASH🗑️
I hope Multiversus continues to get updated consistently because I enjoy it a lot more than Smash Bros. It's on more platforms, has more iconic characters, and it's free 😃
matchs i allways remember is rick ortiz rufus vs snake eyes zanguief. all matches dragged to last seccond victories, all about spacing and footsies
12:10 that kyrie comment aging
Ricky is dude stop calling him a her
tell paco to go to bed 🤣
Scrappy!!!!!!!
That didn't age well
He's a Legend!
Smash is never going away in the sense that it has cemented its legacy. Even if Nintendo were to stop making it the ground break that smash did for the genre is unlike anything else. There were 5 iterations of smash before any serious competitor rose up to the task, and even now we lack any sort of real competitor to smash.
“I want Doug in” pause
Shouts to nycfurbys ex If you havent heard the story Usf Halls of hype 3 i believe At the end of the video
I would pay for watching female play at the top league. We need something new.
GLAD SEE RICKI COME BACK
Any time I see a game get called "x killer" I just assumed it's gonna die in a week or year at this point Overwatch was called the TF2 killer and it's pretty much dead
We love Apa here on Bar Spica since his debut (costreaming from Spain)
Were talking about apa but that coach is top tier
Nice videos fren. Keep em coming!
He just won the finals MVP... yap yap yap yap yap!!!!
Apa yip yip - aang probably
I would disagree with his opinion that Age of Empires 4 had potential at launch. The game is trash. I spent like $80 buying the best version of the game and I want my money back. The Age of Empires brand means something. It means it will be good. It means it will be fun. It means they will make quality content. Age of Empires 4 is the most unfun RTS I have EVER played. I would actually like them to remake every single campaign mission and issue a public apology for making campaigns THAT bad. Almost completely boring 1v1's. Like anyone who enjoys competitive 1v1 is going to log on and enjoy playing against an AI over and over again. They clearly had no idea that there are people who enjoy things other than 1v1. Way more people play Age of Empires 2 and with good reason. It is actually fun! I go to sleep every single night offended that Age of Empires 4 exists. It's very presence on this Earth is an attack on my very being. I am excited for Stormgate though. If they take absolutely Nothing from Age of Emoires 4, their game should be a huge hit!
He's so hot I wanna bear his children so bad T T
this is so dope thank you
You can easily make a part 2 of this just with the playoff run APA had with TL this spring split. From struggling early in the season to all chatting his way to the trophy. Still part of The Grind. Great Video BTW!
TL blows. Fluke win. They will get stomped at MSI by a lower region team, mark it.
Hes the prototype for sure
Who's here after he won LCS Spring Playoffs 2024?
“They should let collegiate teams into Worlds. The landscape would completely shift.” 😂 Almost fell out of my chair on that take hahahaha
I've been following APA as a fan since the amateur days, and I remember Oracle's Elixir scouting him as one of the most promising NA mid talents. This video does a good job of providing a history of his career, but I felt like the tone was a bit disingenous, acting like he came in with a bang. When he first played in LCS, the consesus is that he was FAR from a ready made LCS mid, and the negative community feedback was objectively not inaccurate. His laning was very lacking, often down 20+ cs in equal matchups. His map play was also weird to say the least. I think you could have highlighted this more, because his story is even more impressive taking this into account. His improvement since then, and during this playoffs, has been massive, which makes his cinderella story more impressive considering his shaky start.
He was for sure very rough when he came into LCS but he completely changed how TL looked with only half of split of games. In that sense, he came in with a bang.
Guys I didn’t watch the video but the answer is no
I think a lot of the expectations that fans have put on APA this season are unfair. Sure, he has a limited champion pool, and his best stuff isn't meta right now. But he's a nice guy and his potential ceiling is so incredibly high. Even if you don't like him at all, it's a great sign that a LCS team is finally developing local talent, because we'll never compete with the eastern regions if all of our best players are the people who weren't quite good enough to make those teams.
Wow didn't expect this video to be so well made when i clicked on it.
There are players that have been coasting in lcs for years and people hate on apa when he only played less than a year it’s unbelievable
Well made video 🎉
Great video!
APA is my G.O.A.T
This is Awesome video but people need to understand they cheated in next championship 🏆 that's y they are banned this year 😂
Love what APA brings to LCS, hoping he succeeds and stays in the league for years to come
So proud to have supported this guys career since I 1st saw him play for barrage esports NA always knew believed in him and his dream
I have never been a TL fan, but I really appreciate APA as a player. I hope he continues to shine and stays in the LCS for a long time. Also Spawn is the best coach in the league.
so you are a TL fan, you just haven't come around to it yet <3
Of course he is from Ohio! XD
