Wow! This film is priceless ! Having lived in Allegany, I know the Olean to Bolivar route route well by car, and have looked for maps showing were there tracks were laid. I'm always looking for pictures of the Pittsburg, Shawmut and Northern RR, and now I find this ! I love the area and thanks so much for sharing. Too bad you can't jump on a passenger train and go from Allegany to Wellsville, like you used to be able to.

In a week I would be 9 years old, on this day such a great man visited our town. I was probably in the classroom at the school just a block away, depending on the time. He is in front of the YMCA. I used to go there to swim. The music was nostalgic for me. I miss Olean. I got to see the dime store, where we used to get sodas at the counter. I saw Grants, where they had the best hot dogs in town. After I was in High School, we used to stand out front to talk after school. I met my first boyfriend there during all of us hanging out. So many nice people. I remember the faces of the nice people who worked in those stores. Olean was a very friendly town to grow up in. I appreciate the view of downtown. Bobby was ahead of his time. How sad such a great man had a tragic ending. His brother was one of the greatest Presidents.

Thanks for publishing this. I wonder WHO in Olean would have had money in the 1920s to have afforded such a luxury as a movie camera! I'm glad someone did. Even though there's a lot of "uneven" footage, you can still recognize downtown. I particularly enjoyed seeing the corner of Laurens and Union (looking northward, you can see the black smoke which probably came from the trains stopping at the train station); the drive over the Allegheny River and up the hill a bit towards Pennsylvania; east over the Olean Creek bridge, the stadium to the right (which looks an awful lot like the new stadium in its same place) and some interesting buildings to the left (north) which would be where War Vets Park is; and south on Union Street near where Reids Food Barn is as you pass St. Mary's, etc. Streetcars/trolleys abound, just as my grandpa (born in Olean in1924) said they did. What a treat. I wonder if there's any more footage?

Yep, I was there too. I was about 50 ft away from him when he was making his speech right outside of the Municipal Building. Had a difficult time trying to squeeze around everybody so I could see him but I managed to get to the ropes. I could finally see him but I didn't get to shake hands with him. The immediate area was roped off and all the grown-ups just pushed me aside to shake Kennedy's hand when he came down to the ropes. I was 11 yrs old then. Kinda hard to hold your ground with grown-ups at that age.

2:24---Young man picking his seat before the movie---Have that child checked for pin-worms! 4:01----Failure to yield to oncoming traffic~! Citizen's Arrest~! 6:01----Loitering without a necktie! Citizen's Arrest~! 7:28----Litterbugs! You kids pick up that litter~! Citizen's Arrest~! 7:33 ---Did you see them liddle bastards walk off & defy the surveillance cam? 15:51---Failure to yield to oncoming traffic~! Citizen's Arrest~! 16:16---Amber Alert! Possible Child abduction? 17:48---Still Loitering without a necktie! Citizen's Arrest~! 21:18---Illegal U-Turn! Citizen's Arrest~! Sheesh! The Twenties was such a lawless time~! That footage is pretty neat~! Even though I have not been there, it's a blast taking a virtual ride through the 1920's! I feel like I would have been at home in those times, but I suppose a better way of putting it; is that, I am a misfit then & now...ha ha..

thank you so much for this, i never knew footage like this existed, I just found this the day after I took a day of of work to hike around the old PSN roadbed, imagine if the people working for this railroad would know that 65 years after they pulled the rails a 28 year old would be tracing its steps trying to turn back time
