4 Season Cottager
Canada
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 ก.ย. 2020
I've learned a lot about cottage maintenance and upkeep over the years and I would like to share some of my projects. We use our cottage year round so there are many more things to consider when operating a cottage in sub-zero weather.
The topics I will cover relate to maintaining a log cabin, sandpoints and water supply, winterizing, vegetation, firewood and dealing with everything from deer, porcupines and mice.

Brooklin Concrete Fire Pit Review

Review of the Brooklin Concrete Fire Pit kit #412163 (formally known as the Stone Manor kit).
Updates? Where can I find that brush attachment?
Burig film 😱🤕
An experiment gone bad from the start. Leave these types of structural repairs to the professionals. (40 yrs experience here!)
Based on the lack of a follow up video, you have to wonder if any of this worked. I'd love to think it did. Perhaps jacking up a rotting cross member underneath a building and adding a footing was too much to handle.
Is this going to handle weight of the entire building ...? I am afraid no. Why this alchemy is not done when logs are builded, but when it is too late ...? But thanks anyway ;)
the building was old and cabins are built cheaply there is little concern for the maint requirements at the times of construction.
What was the purpose of the " coolant " you mixed with fungicide?aka antifreeze? Just curious.
coolant doesn't dry for a long long time this allows it to soak longer thusly deeper bringing the boric acid deeper before it crystalizes coolant is also a bit of a fungicide on its own this is why it was still wet days later it would take weeks to dry and during that time he'd want to keep rain off the log. which would be difficult documentation of all this is poor. likely why he added it in based on "I heard it helps". It's unlikely part of the Timbor instructions. Use of coolant for wood preservation is anecdotal in my opinion. I haven't found any hard studies proving it works, however, I use it myself with a mix of borate, borax and propylene/sometimes ethylene.
need to get all the rot, so how is it now?
It does not come across as a good idea to fill in the ridges and spaces with artificial materials. Changing the log would be better I think
Nooooo, you have to replace the logs!
Yes we know it's wet. Cut video in half .
I was hoping to see a follow up video to find out how the salvage job turned out...
Just wondering, why would you restore a rotten log? Why not to just simply change it.
i guess is not easy to change bottom ones
@@mozffox "simply" does NOT belong in that sentence. there's a long of weight on both those logs. the cross member and the bottom log.
@@burtreynolds3143 It is not the hardest only need to jack up the building a bit with bottlejacks or the likes then cut out in sections. this wont last really
