When You Write and Star in Your Directorial Debut (Video Essay)
มุมมอง 8K6 หลายเดือนก่อน
A movie requires the contributions of so many people in so many different fields, but there are arguably 3 positions that have the most influence on a film: director, writer, actor. And sometimes, when all 3 are the same person, a film is really special. This is my first attempt at a video essay! Any feedback is appreciated!

In regard to Monkey Man: Could you tell it was his directorial debut? Yes, yes you could. But it was all technical stuff. This movie was absolutely brilliant. Dev Patel is a genuine talent. Period. He can write, act and direct. A little fine tuning in style, smooth out some of the rougher edges in the editing room and he will be well on his way to be one of the best to ever do it. He's young, he's hungry, and he's got the talent and knowledge to do it. I very much look forward to seeing his career evolve and blossom. ... and he's VERY easy on the eyes.

I beg you, watch Monkey Man if you see it in streaming or rent it. It's such an amazing, fun, crazy movie from a budget of 10 million. It's all heart. I'm so happy I paid money to watch it on opening weekend.

I love both of these films, (especially Problemista's soundtrack!) they feel similar to the idea of the auteur, with Director-Actor-Stars being so passionate and putting so much in that they create undeniably unique films...! Ever heard of Wes Anderson? lol I hope more people take the director duo Daniels approach of knowing that the film will be better when your crew can explore their own ideas within the bounds of your piece. Everything Everywhere All At Once is a testament to this method, alongside the way the Daniels foster community and unity in the day, work, and artistic expression. Everyone can improve everyone! :)

Obv I loved it cuz I just love this style of horror. I do think it suffered a bit in the 3rd act tho which was the only thing that really disappointed me cuz Ready or Not has one of the best recent horror endings imo and so I wish Abigail stuck the landing better. The one Kathryn Newton scene though was *chef's kiss*

I'm not sure why I've been put off by it, lots of my films are just me, but this definitely helped me reconsider! Keep it up! This was a great Video Essay Directorial Debut!

The curious thing is how a man who was able to film this made a statement at the Oscars against his own people (the Israelis). It is well known that Israelis seem to be disunited, but Glazer's speech was somewhat strange.

I saw this film(A)a few days ago,and the effects are still lingering,.. the friend who recommended that l see it also said “it’s going to mess with your mind” was right… the truly scary part was after awhile the background screams, gun shots and barking dogs became just white noise(afterwards,l thought under the same circumstances anyone can become a monster, even myself)!!! a truly disturbing experience 😓

I was worried it would be overhyped for me, because I didn’t love the first part. This movie blew me away on every level! It is a spectacle of effects, it is was enthralling with its story and characters, and developed this world even more. A masterclass in sci-fi filmmaking. I was floored. It also flew by for me as well, it was paced to near perfection. Great review! Keep making these videos, Tyler 👍

This movie was more shocking than a holocaust documentary. it is totally shocking and scary. it makes you question yourself and that we aren't so different, going about our everyday lives, fussing about food, clothes while all that is happening in Gaza / Ukraine, or even mass killing of animals that are served on our table. it makes me think, would we do the same as Rudolf Hoss if our boss and society accepted all of this as normal

I'm lucky to have seen the film at the local art house cinema. I see so many movies & every time I leave a horror movie I feel let down, simply because I don't find them to be scary. I left the cinema after this film completely horrified because it not only runs deep in the psyche, but it actually happened. the subject matter is quite disturbing, but the total sum of the film is masterful.
