Tumbleweed Soil pH Tester

Having the right pH of soil is essential for healthy plants. It is more environmentally friendly to grow your own veggies (vegetables) and herbs at home, plus it is more convenient, just grab from the garden the amount needed. Another interesting perspective of the walk. Thanks. Was the rescue ‘litter’ permanently kept on the mountain just in case of accidents? I also noticed your fellow trekkers had gloves for the ropes. Is that also necessary? I wonder how you felt the next day too?
@@alc6799 I think the rescue litter was permanent (not 100% sure), If recommend bike gloves etc for the ropes just in case, helmets were providef by the tour operator. I'd love to go back to Lord Howe island. Mt Gower can only be done with an official guide. 🏝️
@ And how did you and others ( if you knew)/ feel the next day!
@@alc6799 us three were fine, just a little sore, took it easy the next day, we were used to bushwalking etc though, Mt Gower would be tough for anyone unfit, there are easier walks & sights on LHI to cater for everyone 🤟
@@ecopennylife Thanks for the warning. I will be there for a month in May staying at Hideaway Apartments. I am 71 so not sure if the climb is a possibility for me though I am fit. Did the operator give you a list of things to bring or fitness requirements?
@@alc6799 just have to be fairly fit & able to do a walk with a lot of ascent. Need to bring own lunch, water, wear clothing suitable for the day, raincoat in pack & good shoes etc. There was an option to stop half way and wait for the rest to return if the going was too tough (depends on tour,) we went with Jack.
Link to full video at bottom of short 😊
Huge effort! Riding the penny farthing would be a huge feat. How did you feel the day after?
@@alisonspurway8486 just a little tired the next day. If I ride the penny on the 3 day trip I'd only have to do the gravel road once, that was the hardest part 😋
Should I do the upcoming 3 day ride on the penny farthing ? 😎
That’s Queensland, you said NSW
@@Fn_AerialThe2nd_Rl yes in QLD, hope I didn't slip up & say NSW 😋
Where do you put the button what hole? In the middle?
@@MRUK330 each click advances the gel by one, start with the first one with the dispenser sticking out the most from the handle, after about 6 clicks (6 times), the refill will be used up and be almost all the way in the handle.
Drove along the Bridle Track this past week and although I didn't lower my tyre pressures the track is a very rough drive and the bypass road is extremely steep. Rewatching this video I can say you've done an incredible job making your way along it and it has got me thinking twice about if I'd like to attempt it or not. The hills are ok, but the rough surface takes away some of the joy. I also saw your sticker on the Armco Barrier. Well done.
@@nathanjsimpson cheers, it's a tough challenge especially mountain biking it 😅
Good to see you're having fun with it. The next time you boil water in it, prop it up so the tube is vertical, maybe put something behind it so it doest fall over. Then you can fill the tube up with cold water without the metal tray. The glass tube on the outside will always stay cool to the touch, so after about 33 minutes it will be bubbling at 100 degrees, but you can pick it up holding the tube, as that parts cool, and just pour it into your cup.
@@outie555 thanks for the tip
I know not everyone rides a penny farthing around the neighbourhood 😅
Go solar! Shout out to Outie555 for this Xmas gift 🥰
Hey there thanks for the video. Was wondering is this in the Hawkesbury ? NSW as this year it’s in the Hawkesbury NSW and will the obstacles be the same as when u did them in this video ?
@@Jason-iy6nb yeah, we did the Hawkesbury NSW course. Obstacles look similar for this year, maybe the tyre wall on the website is new this year. Still worth doing, I'd recommend camping there the night before you do it then doing the full 10km course the next day starting early like 8.30am or 9am wave. If you travel & do it later in the day like we did in 2022, you'll have a queue at each obstacle & it will take ages 😎
hey thanks so for the reply that advice about early session is gold👍 it’s been a little difficult for anyone to give some first time advice on tru-grit A few more questions 😬 How long “in metres”was the monkey bars? What is the best clothing for it? And is it easy to follow or navigate so you don’t go off course! What was the hardest or most exhausting obstacle? And is there sections where u have to carry a weight while you run? Sorry for so many questions 😬
@Jason-iy6nb one or two sections have a sandbag to carry (approx 15kg?), easy to navigate - volunteers & signs along way, think there was a map at start for us, take a photo of it, wear old tshirt & shorts & older running shoes, lots of mud & water on course, monkey bars approx 10m long, horizontal traverse ropes hardest for me, obstacles can be skipped if deemed too difficult, go for it, you'll have fun ! P.S. handy to wear fingerless cycling gloves for ropes & monkey bars etc
What was your time and the winners time
@Cheesypanda35 time 27min51sec for the 5km. Frontline runners probably about 20 mins. parkrun is about doing your best run/jog/walk in an inclusive community, not a 'race' as such. Everyone is welcome to the worldwide parkruns whether they are fast, slow, beginners or serious athletes 🤟
What's your favourite overnight camping area? One of my favourites is the Central Plateau area in Tasmania.
Looks a nice relaxing area to stay
@@christopherbarnett5003 the Shellharbour parkrun has beautiful beach views, hotter & more humid than my hometown Bathurst ☺️
Happy New Year 2025 🎉😊
I ended up with pieces of the blue gel all over the toilet bowl and mush left inside the tube. Their ad says it is easy, mine is going in the rubbish bin.
Have gone back and watched a few of your videos but hadn't seen the Woodford Oaks one. Thanks for putting it as a 2024 highlight. Now, after watching, it I think I'll make the trip up the mountains for that one. Who doesn't love some downhill. Thanks for some good content and more in '25.

@@ecopennylife it’s so big
Thanks for the video. My Powerpack 400 is acting up too after nearly 8 years of intensive use. Before, it was mostly the range that was getting less and less. Now error 640 shows up constantly, the connection and light cuts off, the assistance comes through in waves, making riding the bike quite unbearable. I too am getting a new one, there is no doubt it is worth the investment because you get so much in return for years :)
Glowworms are fantastic but respect them, be quiet around them and DO NOT shine bright torches at them.
what a great day it was my first time there had a great time
@@mysterious_MK thanks for watching, it was fantastic having Ironfest return again in 2024 🥰
And yes, some camping videos along the river and road would be great.
All the signs I've seen on Bridle Track videos say 4WD but at one point you said 4WD or AWD. I know it's steep and gravelly in places but do you think an AWD vehicle could easily travel this road? Thanks.
@@nathanjsimpson AWD should be ok as long as it's not muddy from rain. Turon river level needs to be low (no recent rain). Mt Forester with AWD was ok.
Thanks @ecopennylife
Great video Thankyou
@@kimgee4821 thanks for watching ☺️
Nice review, thanks A couple of years on, are you still happy with it and how does it perform on damp grass?
@@tassie7325 thanks for watching, mower still running great. I would recommend to NOT use on damp grass as the clippings will be sticky & performance not as good.
@@ecopennylife Thanks. This means it probably wont work for me. We get some spells where it rains on and off for several days and the grass needs to be mowed between rainfalls, often when it is still a bit damp. If I wait for the rains to end and the grass to dry then the grass will be extra long and will cause other problems I guess. Thanks again. I think you have saved me a regrettable expense.
Have you tested your soil in the garden or pots for pH ?

You need to finish it off with a steel. You were still pretty much squashing that tomato as you were cutting it with the 2nd "sharpened" knife.
@@63off Good tip, I'm still a beginner sharpener 😋
@@ecopennylife the sharpener leaves a bur on the edge which folds over very easily and can make the knife blunt. The steel removes the bur.
