How we raise pastured pork | what you need to start | Berkshire pigs
Raising pork has become one of our favorite things to do on the homestead! Pigs are smart, cute and fairly easy to raise if you have your systems in place! This year was our second year raising two Berkshire hogs on pasture and we will be continuing to raise them year after year as long as we're homesteading! Next year we might even raise a few more than we did this year! Here's to loving the homestead lifestyle!

Falling in love with the homesteading life | 2024
มุมมอง 7214 วันที่ผ่านมา
The footage we managed to capture this summer reminded me of what we love about the homestead life and overwhelmed me with gratitude for how much we were able to accomplish this growing season while also preparing for the arrival of our first child! I put this video together to share with you all how much joy and abundance this lifestyle can bring. #homestead #farming #homemade
Water Bath Canning tomato sauce | Preserving tomatoes #homemade
มุมมอง 326หลายเดือนก่อน
This year we planted a lot of tomatoes in hopes of having a good harvest to preserve a lot of them for the coming year. We decided to try our hand at the 'amish paste' variety after repeatedly hearing that they're good for making sauce and they did not disappoint! We have tomatoes everywhere and have even been freezing bags of them for weeks in order to post-pone our inevitable days of preserva...
Advice from a homesteader | Do this with your new homestead property #vlog

Homesteading is a way of life. We haven't been on this journey long, but in the past couple of years we have tried, failed and tried again. We have experienced some of the greatest moments of our lives, cultivated friendships and grown closer to what we know as true fulfillment. Learning to work with the land in addition to stewarding livestock throughout their lifespan has taught us a lot abou...
Cutting up a whole chicken for lunch & making chicken bone broth | pasture raised poultry #vlog
มุมมอง 2076 หลายเดือนก่อน
Over the years we have noticed that lots of folks are intimidated by a whole chicken as opposed to one that is cut up and pieced out for them. Today we wanted to share a process we do weekly when pulling a whole chicken out from our freezer to eat. By sharing our day to day lives with the world we hope to encourage others to try new things and push past the intimidation and fear of the unknown!...
First season of making maple syrup on the homestead & moving our egg laying hens on pasture #vlog
มุมมอง 2686 หลายเดือนก่อน
This first season of collecting maple sap to turn into maple syrup has been everything we hoped it would be! It's been a great time of the year to add in something to do on the homestead, as well as a pretty low-entry-cost sort of project to start up. We continue to get blessed with semi-decent weather a few days a week to complete the evaporation process outside but time got away from us today...
Making goetta & sugna (for prosciutto) from Pasture Raised Pork on our homestead #vlog
มุมมอง 1897 หลายเดือนก่อน
This week Rob dove into some maintenance for the prosciuttos from the hogs we butchered last summer. And it just so happens that we recently ran out of goetta, an old-world meat and grain breakfast sausage dish; so he decided to couple both pork tasks and tackle them in the same day. #homemade #pork #homesteading #homemadefood #homemaker #pastureraised

The homestead is buzzing with activity today and I can feel spring just around the corner! We've had our "winter break" and the homestead is coming into its busy season! It feels good to be outside, moving and getting things done. But with that, a winter storm moves in unannounced and we're graced with the beauty that a blanket of snow brings and we don't complain. #homemade #homemaker #homeste...
Nesting & Chicken Salad on the Homestead #vlog

With anything in life, the unknown is just that until you gain that first-hand experience. This first pregnancy has been quite a whirlwind and it is hard to slow down and soak it all in, but we're doing our best! From nesting to planning to living in the moment we're here for it and we're eating pretty darn good while we're at it 😉 #homemade #homemadefood #homesteading

Free To Grow Homestead is all about getting out there and trying new things, failing and trying again, researching and adjusting your methods and beliefs when you need to. Today, we attempt a third batch of back-yard maple syrup and a brand new endeavor into making our own laundry detergent. All whilst juggling our typical daily activities. Thanks for following along. #homemade #homemadefood #h...

This week we made the extremely difficult decision to cancel and postpone our honeymoon due to a major hurricane coming off the coast of Africa and heading towards the Caribbean. We settled right in to tackling our long list of to-do's around the homestead! #hurricane #homestead #project
RV honeymoon | Local KOA holiday | RV | Cabin | Treehouse
มุมมอง 100ปีที่แล้ว
The wedding brought our whirlwind of a summer to a close and with the "real honeymoon" a few weeks out we pondered what to do now that the wedding was over. If you know us, you know we love our dogs and we love traveling in our RV because we can bring them with anywhere we go! So we headed to a nearby campground in a last ditch effort to soak up the sun, enjoy some pool time and relax after mon...

Recap #vlog | Berkshire pig harvest | dry cured pork | packaged pork | smoking bacon
มุมมอง 137ปีที่แล้ว
Vlogging can be extremely enjoyable and extremely frustrating! When I went to begin editing the next video in our pork processing series, several of the videos on the hard drive had been corrupted! We lost hours of important memories and first time experiences that now only exist in our minds. So today we took the time to recap everything we did regarding processing the Berkshire boys. #farming...

Good effort team.I do about 15pigs a year give or take for family etc only thing I'd suggest is boil the water as you have and use an old bath tub few buckets per pig splash of cold 72c 45seconds per side job done.Jesse NZ

Leaning. Leaning 😆😆Jesus yep.
People think that killing meat animals are bad and these people do not know that is how the meat they eat from the grocery stores are done.So if they lived roughly about two hundred years ago, they would be doing what you are doing now for your family.
A bunch of city slickers don't know shit
Hell yeah!
Really enjoyed your video. Ive been canning for 40 years. If the jars in your cabinet were canned you should take the bans off. God bless and good luck with your Channel.
Thank you! Yes, I definitely need to do that, thank you for noticing! Since I didn't "can" them I didn't even think of it! Thank you and God bless you as well ❤️
What a great adventure you are on. Congratulations on your growing family. See you next video.
Thank you so much! ❤️
I'm new to your channel and I love your video ❤️
Hi and thank you so much! We are enjoying making videos and sharing with others! ❤
They eat for people, then we eat them.
Keep the cutlery sharp!
You sure did kill the hog but you did not mistreat it. Its purpose was to get onto a dinner table.
You don't kill hogs in the summer dumn asses
We have a walk in cooler which allows us to process and hang animals year round. Thank you for your comment.
I like how you called him. Thats how i will behave when i have a husband❤
Why would you safe the blood?? Lol
We made Morcilla (blood sausage). We use as much of the harvest as possible.
A lot of people use it in their gardens/compost as well.
@@Mendingheartshomestead And the bones? Couldn't they be pulverized as part of a good fertilizer?
Make catfish bate
Congratulations!
Thank you!
look forward to seeing updates on these how to videos
Thanks, we are enjoying sharing the process!
Super cool. Too bad for the lost footage. There is always next year's pigs.
Thanks! Yes, absolutely. Looking forward to next year for sure!
Pig butchering at the homestead? Automatic subscription from me. Too many raise hogs and just send them off to a butcher. The real tradition that is dying and needs to be preserved is the actual butchering at home. The bringing the family together. A pig killing day is a wonderful feast.
Thank you so much! Couldn’t agree more! Invaluable skills! We hope to inspire others by sharing our story!
Also great content
Thank you! That means a lot to us!
Any tips for someone who would wanna start a butchering business aka me
We truly believe there’s a hole in the market for a mobile butcher. Basically, to avoid some of the red tape and high entry costs you could build out a mobile trailer which could be taken to a customers farm to perform the butchering on their farm for them… in most cases if the customer you were butchering for wasn’t intending to sell their meat, just keeping it for themselves, then theoretically you wouldn’t even need a license. This is not legal advice, just a theory 😉
Shoot the hog in the head with a 22 rifle
You need wood ashes to put in your water and the hair will come off easy 😊😊
Thanks for the tip! I’ve never heard that!
