Holding a National Diploma: Journalism from the Durban University of Technology, Jeff cut his teeth as a reporter on The Mercury's night desk, working full time while completing his studies. He worked in public relations at Netcare911 before returning to journalism, holding senior roles at the Sunday Tribune, The Witness, News24 and the Sunday Times/Times Select/TimesLIVE.
Jeff is a multi award-winning journalist with interests in investigative and data journalism and is especially interested in issues pertaining to crime and justice, with a specific focus on data journalism.
In 2021, Jeff co-authored the book Eight Days in July: Inside the Zuma unrest that set South Africa alight, and he won the prestigious Taco Kuiper Award for Investigative Journalism for his story behind the assassination of hospital whistleblower Babita Deokaran.
As the Deputy Head Boy of 2005, Jeff was the Allemans House Captain who achieved Half Colours for Dramatics, was a member of the Gavel Club and a member of the Representative Council of Learners, Captain of the 1st Rugby Team and Captain of the 1st Hockey team, achieving Full Colours for both codes.
