    I don't understand why manufacturers make LVPO's with 30 or 34mm tubes, and only a 24mm objective...? 🤨 This could easily be a 1-10x 30mm scope. More is better.

    • @Blackplagueprecision
      @Blackplagueprecision วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@R1j0hn I get what you’re saying-on paper, a 1-10x30mm sounds like it would offer better light transmission. But I wonder if March sticks with 24mm because their glass and coatings are so good that they don’t need the extra objective size. A bigger lens would add weight and change mounting height, so maybe they’re prioritizing compactness without sacrificing performance. Have you compared a March 1-10x24 against a larger-objective LPVO to see if there’s a noticeable difference?

    Tested one once, was not happy with the thickness of the lines at 15x. The concept in general is very appealing but at max power, which you use to hit small things fare away doesn’t work, or at least not for me. A open center with a small dot would fix this or make the line at least to the first Mil in all directions significantly thinner. Or else it would be the perfect DMR scope. ECONOMY OPTION: (FREE, annealong machine). A DRILL in a vise, with a 1/16" drill bit in it.... Place the BRASS primer hole over the drill bit, black tape the trigger to spin SLOW. One hand holds the tortch, anneal the brass, (3-6 seconds). your other hand has a leather glove, pick off the brass, and place another on. (Um. You now have an annealing machine for like NO MONEY OUT OF POCKET)!!!! -- unless you like fancy new toys.

    • @Blackplagueprecision
      @Blackplagueprecision 23 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Haha, I mean, that certainly seems cheaper at face value! But let’s break it down. For the tools: • A vise: $30 (cheap) to $60 (mid-tier) • A drill: $50 (basic) to $100 (mid-tier) • A 1/16” drill bit: $5 • A flame torch: $20 (cheap) to $50 (mid-tier) • A propane tank: $10 to $15 • Leather gloves: $15 to $30 • Black tape: $5 That puts you in the $135 (bare minimum) to $265 range, just for the tools and materials. Add in the time spent manually annealing each piece, and you’re getting close to or even exceeding the $300 price of a 2-in-1 annealing system. Sure, if you already own most of this stuff, it does bring the price down. But there’s a reason why 99% of shooters who are willing to reload don’t reload like this anymore. It’s just not efficient, consistent, or worth the hassle when modern tools are available. Butttt, I do think this could make for a fun video-something like “The Cheapest Annealing and Case Prep Center in 2025.” What do you think?

    Good video on your part. But I really don't see the need for that. As long as your reticle is aligned with plumb and your level indicator is green you're good. You can chuck the rifle in a vice, Even if the rifle is canted a tiny bit it wouldn't matter. If your level indicator and reticle are plumb. You aren't going to shoulder or bag a rifle perfect every time in the field. Maybe just me, but that's 300 that could be used a LOT more effectively elsewhere.

    • @Blackplagueprecision
      @Blackplagueprecision 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi, I appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your thoughts! You make some valid points-different disciplines have different requirements, and there’s definitely an acceptable range of accuracy that works perfectly well for most situations. For me, though, I shoot with the F-Class and benchrest folks, where extreme accuracy and precision are the name of the game. In those circles, any little edge can make a difference, and we’re always chasing perfection. That said, I totally agree with you-there are so many other things to spend your money on before buying something like this, especially if you're just getting started or don’t take competition super seriously. I’d definitely categorize this as a tool for those who are trying to cut every edge they can. I’ll admit, we competitors might be a bit crazy-spending thousands of dollars just for the chance to win a few bucks and say, "I'm number one!" But in competition, it's never a bad idea to eliminate potential failure points. If something does go wrong, it's one less variable to troubleshoot. Thanks again for the feedback, and happy shooting!

The only 2 things that matter is that when your reticle is aligned with gravity, your level indicator, be it electronic or bubble is aligned with the reticle. The base doesn't matter. The second you pull that off and put it on a rifle you're changing the mounting. Now you have to level the rifle? It's not needed.... It wouldn't matter if your rifle had a slight cant, as long as your indicator is aligned with the reticle. You will shift the rifle on the X axis until your indicator shows level and that insures your reticle is level. The actual rifle may be canted... You can do the exact same thing by just putting your rifle in a vice and giving it a rudimentary level as a base to align the more important reticle and leveling device. When you remove your optic and level from that device and move it to a rifle, will it still be perfectly aligned with gravity? Probably not, you have to shift the rifle in the field/on the bench until your indicator shows level/plumb. So the jig you have there isn't really doing anything. You could have done the exact same thing on the rifle... WITHOUT having to unbolt your optic mount and re torque it on the actual rifle.. Which could change the relationship between the actual optic and the indication from the stress of unmounting and mounting. One other thing that is my opinion, yours may differ... but your set up in introducing added fail points that could cause issues over time. Your level indicator is the most important aspect here. You cant eyeball pump/level through the reticle. You have it mounted with 5 connection points. The receiver to rail, rail to mount, bottom of mount to top ring of mount, top ring to surfboard, and surfboard to the actual level indicator. That's 5 places that could work loose or shift over time, or with changing environmental conditions. You could cut that down to 3 connections by mounting the indicator directly to the tube. Not sure if you've ever used a g-force calculator, but depending on your caliber and the rifle weight, that optic and all mounting hardware are introduced to more g-force than a fighter pilot every time you pull the trigger. I'm a big proponent of using the best mounts and mounting hardware possible and elimination any potential fail points when possible. Just my opinion though. I was always taught to keep things simple and stick with things that are consistent and things that work. But back to your leveling jig.... Do you actually think you can align the reticle to the level any better on it than you can on the actual rifle? You're doing the exact same thing on both. Only on the rifle you are done. With the jig you still have to unmount the jig and move the calibrated assemble over to the rifle... Which could change things. I see no advantage that it gives, but I do see the possibility of creating a problem where normal alignment, that F-class guys have been doing for years doesn't.

      @@chrisrosenthal1210 First off, thank you for sharing such a well-thought-out perspective! It’s clear you’ve put decades of experience into understanding the science, mechanics, and practical aspects of shooting sports. I have a lot of respect for the depth of your knowledge, especially coming from a family with such a rich history in the sport and industry. Your points about simplifying processes and minimizing fail points resonate deeply with anyone striving for reliable, consistent results. You make an excellent case for traditional methods of scope leveling, and I completely agree with much of what you’re saying. Aligning the reticle to gravity and ensuring the level indicator matches the reticle is absolutely the critical aspect. At the end of the day, what matters is repeatable performance on the rifle, not just on a setup jig. Your argument about the potential for introducing misalignment during the transition from a jig to the rifle is spot-on and is something that’s always worth considering when evaluating tools like this. Now, here’s where I’d offer a slightly different perspective.

    • @Blackplagueprecision
      @Blackplagueprecision 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@chrisrosenthal1210 For shooters who are very comfortable with traditional methods, you’re absolutely right-using a jig or mount with micro-adjustments may feel redundant or even unnecessary. However, for others, tools like these can offer real advantages, particularly in these areas: Micro-Precision Adjustments: One of the biggest benefits of systems like the Arrow Precision Scope Leveling Mount is their ability to make incredibly fine adjustments to the reticle and level. This is particularly useful for shooters chasing extreme long-range (ELR) accuracy or those who are meticulous about their setup. For them, even a fraction of a degree off can translate into measurable misses downrange. The precision these tools provide is hard to replicate by hand or even with a vice setup. Consistency and Repeatability: While you’re absolutely correct that the mounting process on the rifle can introduce changes, a system like this minimizes human error during the initial setup. It’s not necessarily about creating a “perfect” system (because, as you pointed out, you’ll still need to confirm alignment on the rifle); rather, it’s about making that process faster and easier for those who may not have years of experience or access to professional tools. Field Applications and Newer Shooters: For those without access to a proper vice or for newer shooters who may struggle with eyeballing plumb through the reticle, these tools can be a game-changer. They offer a clear and structured process that reduces the likelihood of user error, especially for someone learning the finer points of optic setup. For experienced shooters like yourself, it might feel like overkill-but for others, it can simplify what can be an intimidating process. Minimizing Stress During Mounting: One of the issues you raised-removing and re-torquing the optic-can indeed introduce stress or minor shifts in alignment. That’s a valid concern. However, a micro-adjustable system allows users to make corrections in smaller, more controlled increments. Fail Points: You bring up an excellent point about reducing the number of fail points. Fewer connections always mean fewer opportunities for something to go wrong. That said, not all systems introduce unnecessary fail points. A quality leveling system often integrates directly into the optic or base in a way that minimizes extra hardware. It’s definitely something worth evaluating for each system individually, and I appreciate you pointing it out.

      @@chrisrosenthal1210 Ultimately, I think we’re aligned in our goals: achieving reliable, repeatable, and precise results while keeping the process as simple as possible. Tools like these aren’t designed to replace traditional methods but to enhance or refine the process for those who want or need that extra edge. For some shooters, especially newer ones, these systems may feel like a “shortcut” that simplifies setup. For others, like you, traditional methods backed by years of experience might remain the gold standard-and that’s absolutely valid. Your feedback is incredibly valuable because it pushes the conversation forward and helps others think critically about their tools and methods. I appreciate your deep understanding of the mechanics and your passion for reliability-it’s a perspective that many of us can learn from. Thanks again for sharing your insights! I’d love to hear more about your experiences and methods for setting up optics directly on the rifle.
