Hindustan Commercial Bank 1805: Lahore’s Heritag
In this vlog, I uncover the rich history of Hindustan Commercial Bank, founded in 1805 in the bustling Shal Market of Lahore. Housed within the historic Govind Ram building, this bank was more than just a financial institution - it was a symbol of the economic growth of the region during the colonial era. The ground floor of the building housed various shops, adding to the vibrant atmosphere of the marketplace.
The bank originally had ambitious plans to open five branches across key locations. One was successfully established at Rang Mahal Chowk in Shah Alam Market, while others were planned for Neela Gumbad, Bengal, and Amritsar. Out of these, only three branches were realized, with Rang Mahal, Bengal, and Amritsar branches up and running. The remaining planned branches, however, were never completed.
