The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has many important places, whether tourist or heritage, as it is a special place to go where you can take your vacation, and one of the places that you own and have an important place is Jabal Omar, Makkah Al-Mukarramah.
The Kingdom is filled with many distinctive mountains that attract many tourists around the world, as many of them prefer to visit the Saudi mountains in order to witness the most beautiful and charming natural views during the winter season in particular, and Jabal Omar, which is located in the city of Makkah, is one of those mountains.
With regard to the presence of Jabal Omar in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, it is located near the Grand Mosque, as it was composed of a group of old residential units that make it distinguished among other mountains.
Also, Jabal Omar, Makkah Al-Mukarramah, extends from the Shubaikah area to the Al-Musfalah area, and it was in the past from the inhabited places, where it was found that today most of the pilgrims of Yemen reside there.
While the mountain is located on the western side of Makkah Al-Mukarramah, which was mentioned in the History of Al-Ghazi, where he used to say: “In the collection of the goals, and this mountain is now known as Jabal Omar.”
He also continued his talk about the mountain, saying: “It is the mountain overlooking the Hajla, and its mosque was built by some Indian merchants.” Therefore, this mountain is considered one of the important mountains in the Makkah region, in addition to that it includes a number of old houses since the time of the Companions.
With regard to its construction, Jabal Omar was built randomly in Makkah over the past years, and the Jabal Omar area does not have a number of basic facilities, the most important of which is sanitation facilities.
We find that in late 2006 demolition work was started in the Jabal Omar residences in Makkah Al-Mukarramah in order to provide the necessary space, in order for the Jabal Omar project to be established, as this project was specifically established by a Saudi joint stock company, which was named “Jabal Omar” in relation to to the mountain.
The company is currently working on developing Jabal Omar, which will be next to the Holy Mosque. Among the advantages of Jabal Omar in Makkah is its location, which is a few steps away from the Grand Mosque. We find that the area of ​​the project may reach about 230,000 square meters, which is not a small number.
Named Jabal Omar in Makkah Al-Mukarramah
Many names came to Jabal Omar in Makkah Al-Mukarramah, where several names were given to it, and we will explain the most prominent of them in the following lines as they came according to historical and literary sources:
- Jabal al-Nubi: where we find that al-Ghazi mentioned that Jabal Omar, Makkah al-Mukarramah, contains a place, which he told him was the birth of Omar Ibn al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, and the people of Makkah at that time called it Jabal al-Nubi.
- He was also called the barren, and the reason for calling it by that name, according to what Al-Azraqi said, is that Jabal Omar overlooked Omar’s rent, and was named after the barren, and in it the poet said: “How easy is it that the pain of her imagination is peaceful if she descends at the barren foothills.”
- It was also called the mountain of hurricanes, and this name came as one of the pre-Islamic names for Jabal Omar since ancient times, as Al-Azraqi said in his book “Akhbar Makkah” that Jabal Omar: It was called “The Hurricanes” in the pre-Islamic era, and it was also called that of hurricanes.
- He also said in his book that Jabal Omar al-Taweel was the supervisor of the quarter of Omar, in addition to that it was also the supervisor of the rights of the Omar family, and the right of the Muti’ Ibn al-Aswad family.
He called it the Camel Mountain, and Al-Ghazawi spoke about this, that at the top of the mountain there is a rock formation that closely resembles a camel or a camel. He said that today it is called Jabal Omar, and that may be attributed to Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him.
- While we find that Ahmed bin Ibrahim Al-Ghazawi mentioned, through his fragments in Al-Manhal, which came under the number 1619, that he said: “He had found the name Jabal Omar by opening the eye, and the name was preferred by Ali Al-Fath explaining this, that it was not mentioned in The considered biography, that Omar Al-Faruq has a mountain attributed to him in Mecca, in addition to that, he did not live in its peak or its slopes.
We also find that many individuals have rumored that the summit of Jabal Omar contains a place called “Congratulations the she-camel”, and this means that Mabrouk the she-camel of Omar Ibn Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, but this hadith is considered one of the myths, illusions and gossip about the mountain.
