    Lindsay, I don't know if you are still answering questions, but just in case you do: when you pull your silk tight in the frame, what are those "drawing pin" things and the "?" that hooks into the material? Hope this makes sense!!

      I believe you are asking about the hooks? They are the "Suspension claw hooks". They came with the stretcher that I purchased from Dharma Trading Co. Hope that helps!

    Great job! Your design is absolutely lovely and I very much enjoyed your video but it would be a good idea to clarify for the folks watching it that although true silk DYES do require steaming, you are using a waterbased acrylic silk PAINT called Dye-na-flow; silk paints do not require steam setting (although the heat from the steaming process can very well make them permanent). I mention this because the idea of steam-setting can be intimidating for some newer silk painters and if they thought it was a requirement they might be less inclined to try these wonderful paints - so I repeat - Dye-na-flow does NOT require steaming lol! If you take a look at the instructions on the bottle of your paint you can see that this product calls for heat setting using direct heat from an iron. I personally prefer to allow it to air cure and then I follow it up with a tumble in a very hot dryer. I keep my steaming equipment for when I'm working with the steam-fixed dyes. I look forward to seeing more from you!

      Ivy Stockstill thank you for your comment! While the green background is in fact Dye-Na-Flow silk PAINT the other colors used are all Jacquard Green Label silk DYE so steaming is actually necessary. (All of the products I used are listed at the end of the video). I agree that the steaming can be intimidating and that's why I wanted to share my process so that maybe it would alleviate some of the questions and stress associated with steaming. I guess I should explain that I chose to use the Dye-Na-Flow for this project because I like the color and knew it would work for my intended use, a framed painting. I feel that the Dye-Na-Flow paints may be easier to use, but they leave the silks feeling rather stiff and I prefer not to use them on silks that are intended to be worn or touched. I appreciate your comment and hope that maybe we've made things a little clearer for any new silk painters!

      @ivystockstill6270 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the clarification will help and I am glad you have chosen to use both types on one piece; most people do not do this and I feel that limits your overall options as some textures can only be achieved with one or the other. I am also glad you opted not to use the liquid dyeset concentrate with your Jacquard dyes. Please keep making videos! I guide folks to TH-cam when they need instruction above and beyond what I am able to provide by phone and your videos are well thought out and nicely paced. Keep it up!

    also do you know of any silk paints that do not need steaming?

    • @lindsaymoore1559
      @lindsaymoore1559 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The silk paint used in this demo (the bright green background) is Dye-na-flow fabric paint which can be set with the heat from an iron. Some of the other colors are silk dye which does need to be steam set. Jaquard green label silk dyes can be chemically set though I do not have experience using them, because I was told the colors do not set as vibrantly. Also, I mostly purchase my paints and dyes from Dharma Trading Company, unless I just stumble upon them elsewhere. Hope this info helps!

    excellent job...are you able to make the frame any size? I cant make up my mind if I would rather make it out of pvc pipe or just purchase the frame parts. what do you recommend?

    • @lindsaymoore1559
      @lindsaymoore1559 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The frames are adjustable/extendable. You can buy multiple sets or extensions for them which makes it fairly easy to get a variety of sizes. But you might have more control with PVC if you had a particular size you were trying to achieve.
