Winterizing Your Bike
มุมมอง 6812 ปีที่แล้ว
Tips on what to do to prepare your motorcycle for Winter storage
i own a 2021 Royal Enfield Continental GT650 in Rocker Red. I think that it is beautiful, though I prefer your wheels.
Well done and well said .
Yes, the experts can be "wrong" on the beginner bike recommendation. After owning street bikes from 100cc to 1,000 cc In the late '70s I realized then that the best beginner street bikes were the 450cc class (400-500cc twins). And they may very well be about as much street legal fun as you can have on two wheels. I have owned and ridden dozens of street bikes in the last 49 plus years. I currently have two dozen motorcycles, and have sold that many in the last 3 years. I understand if you don't believe me. I have owned three ninja 250s but only one ninja 500, and one ninja 650. Just for simplicity sake: both the 250 and the 650 require more skill than a beginner has to get everything you want or need out of them; The former because it lacks power, the latter because it has a little too much for a beginner. The Vulcan 500 and the Ninja 500 are ideal beginner bikes depending on the kind of riding you want to do. Just trust me on this one, I literally have motorcycle mania!
Definitely not a beginner bike, 300’s and 250’s are the best beginner, this is great for a 2nd or 3rd step if no experience
Wrong! A 250 requires quite a bit more skill to keep it on the pipe and get some performance out of it. It's also harder to get the hell out of the way when you need to. A 450cc class has always been the ideal beginner bike especially if you want to keep it and not have to upgrade in a season. Unless it's a dual sport or a scooter a 250 is NOT an ideal beginner bike!
What windshield are you running and how well does it deflect the wind?
It has the Puig touring windscreen on it, and it does a great job without being too big and bulky
Sound quality is really shit bru.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ve had a tough time for a while trying to get a good mic setup that sounds good but can also dial out all the wind noise! It’s definitely a process.
Had a 2009 as a first bike. Super easy and forgiving. Fast enough to cruise on the highway and to keep up with Ninja 650's or similar.
Nice 800GS! I ride an 800GS as well and it's a solid performer. I can tell you a couple of the best investments on them is upgrade fork springs to reduce the nose dive, tires ~ subjective but the geometry on the front end makes it fall into turns on road however with a knobby/aggressive tread it's more predictable and exceptional off road. Crash bars that protect the radiator as it's very vulnerable ~ if you ride you will eventually fall or drop it. The front rim is butter soft for off roading. The rear shock upper mount is a source of issue, usually bent bolts as factory bolts are soft, put a grade 10 or 12 in. Better buy a brace and ride it!
This would be perfect bike over all but it has one MAJOR flaw it sounds like all inline twins dull and fart can if you put on after market pipe to lose weight and go to 2 into 1. if only you could change the fart can sound it would be perfect bike. best one I heard was one with 2 into one header and guy put on aluminum supertrapp tip that has plates so he only put on a few to keep it quiet and so you do not get that farting burp of a inline twin.
I have ridden every thing from 70s yamaha 60 2 stroke dirt bike to ZX11 and I have ridden a ex500, buddy hd one, it is not just for beginners damn good little bike and more bike than 90% of riders can ever use. EGOS sell 1000s and most 600s I own and have owned 4 total kawi 600s sarting in 85 first ninja 600 until latest zx6 own a 2010 zx6. The 500 is great bike for any level rider unless you are top notch rider on street it is fine up to its limits then maybe like me a zx6 or 600 of some brand. NO one needs 1000 on street total over kill if you track most tracks it is still more than you can use.
All that and we didn't even get to hear it !!!
Nice looking 2021, I prefer those wheels over the newer black ones (buy a Triumph). UK-based TEC has a U.S. warehouse near you; their 2 into 2 stainless-steel exhaust system is on my 2020 INT650 and a Bonneville SE, very pleased with both of them. The Bridgestone line of tires is a very good buy-value, I have put over 10,000 miles on a BT-45 140/70 and a BT-46 150/70 one went right at 11,000; rear tires...on the front I am on my third tire: original Pirelli Phantom SportComp went 12,000 miles (original rear 7,000) and the replacement B'Stone Battlax on the front went 14,900 miles. Third one is another 110/90... Staying with the Battlax until it is no longer made or until Michelin lowers prices 🤪
Royal Enfield are on fire right now! Beautiful bike mate!😂
Hello, if someone knows, is this the kaw177 metallic titanium color? Thx
It sure is!
@@TheGoarReport thank you very much
Had like 12 or 13 street bikes but did have 3 big fast ninjas but this 500 ain't no beginners bike. Why do people keep saying that. I'm 50 so I love how light it is and it's pretty, fast, dependable and it's a Ninja! Can't go wrong. I have an 08. LOVE IT!!!!!!!
Lol my first bike and I’m vibin
I've been riding street bikes for 49 plus years. You don't stop appreciating a beginner bike just because you're an experienced rider. The Ninja 250 requires more skill, the Ninja 500 has a wider power band and yet is very forgiving. I had my ninja 500 up to 120 indicated mph. It is an ideal beginner bike in my opinion for its power, weight, and overall ergonomics; Great commuter and yet quite sporty. By the way you can get a 1-in riser for those handlebars.
great bike 🎉
I also have a bullet 500efi great bike just love it. Had it for three years now just short of 10.000 never had any problems yet runs like a dream you should try a DNA filter exchange the plug for an NGK irridium what a difference that makes.I Hope you have many happy days riding your classic. Stay safe and enjoy.
The original EX500, that was produced from 1987-1993, was not a Ninja. It became the EX500 Ninja in 1994, when Kawasaki updated the bike with new fairings, new headlight, new taillight, new turn signals, a new swing arm, new brakes front and rear, with the rear disc replacing the EX 500's drum brake, new 17 inch wheels, which replaced the old 16 inch wheels of the EX500, a new digital ignition, to replace the EX500's analog ignition module, a new instrument cluster, new mirrors, larger front forks, new clip ons, and new switch gear. The majority of these items were not entirely new, as many of these items were borrowed from bikes such as the Ninja ZX6 and ZX7 models. So, in a nutshell, these EX500 Ninja's were NOT the same bike as the original EX500. They share the same frame, fuel tank, and engine, and that's about it. 2009 was the last model year for the Ninja 500R in America.
I honestly did not know all of that! Thanks for the great info! You most definitely know your Kawis
@@TheGoarReport Not all Kawasaki's !!!!! But, I was always drawn to these 500cc parallel twin sport bikes. I studied a lot about this bike and it's competitor, the Suzuki GS500E/F, back in the day. The Ninja 500R's "new" swing arm was actually sourced from the Kawasaki KLE 500 dual purpose bike !!!!! This was so that they could fit a disc brake to the rear. Kawasaki went, as they called it "parts bin shopping", in order to update the bike.
same damn bike just different name bike changed very little over it full run
LOL. Yeah, they had the same engine and frame. Nothing else. But yeah, same damn bike. LMAO.@@RT22-pb2pp
Use power rage exhaust it's better than this low quality exhaust your exhaust will harm your engine
Do you have a link for it?
I have one of these (had about 10 bikes so far). This is one of the best bikes I've owned - as stated, its excellent both on and off road.
Absolutely! If you needed to pick one bike to do it all, I’d challenge anyone to find a better all around package.
i started seeing a lot of these bikes around here where i live. One day im gonna buy it too :)
The nice thing now is that they’re becoming more and more affordable too!
That’s the best color they ever made the ninja 500!
Is it the metallic titanium?
Were the burgundy and the blue colors.
I'm more partial to my blue tank with white & fuchsia accents, back to the future vibes. Way more head turning imo.
Been looking for one . Heard chatter on web the 500 may come back . Hoping .
Bought one a year and a half ago, could not be happier , it does it all and fun fun fun ..!all my mates have 1200/1250 GS's lovely but... huge👍
Hi there, good review thanks. can I ask what’s the after market seat you have on your bike please?
The seat is a Seat Concepts brand aftermarket unit.
This was my first bike, but much older. A 1994 ninja 500. Though they really didn't change these bikes at all over the years. I've ridden everything from super sports to cruisers and I always want to come back to this one.
Why this fckn stupid music in bacround?
Also looking at a Ninja 500R so I appreciate the video.
Cool video and a gorgeous bike! I can't help but wonder how long the bike was ridden with the speedo broken? It may have done considerably more 700 miles? If it has in fact only done about 700 miles the engine's still not run in. I would be taking it very easy for a bit. Also you'l find the vibrations will lesson considerably after a few hundred miles. Enjoy this classic motorcycle. I have a 2014 500 Classic Royal Enfield myself, love it 😍
I bought one immediately after my test ride about 3 months ago and I'm still loving it. They had three colors available, and I chose black. And yes, the brake light illuminates with the regenerative braking. It's also worth mentioning that in the Rain Mode, there is no regenerative braking, so when you let off the throttle, you'll coast, much like a bike with an engine and the clutch pulled back, and the brake light only illuminates when you use the brakes. You mentioned charging this at the office or home, but didn't mention the fact that under the seat (unlock the seat with the key) is a charging cable you can plug into a standard household outlet. Granted it is a much slower charge than the charger at the Harley Davidson stores, but it works wonderfully. I usually ride in Eco Mode and it is still blazing fast. I've only gone intro Sport Mode once, which is the Mode you can command Zero to Sixty in 2.8 to 3.0 seconds.
Need to do alot of saving for the bike and also full category A license but once I got that sorted definitely want a demo ride in the future I hope there'll be accessories for the live wire one
About to but my first bike, same year and model super excited. Im sure itll be great to learn on.
You’re going to have a blast with it!
You are going to fall in love with it. I kept mine and it's still my daily rider.

You make an excellent point about break, regeneration, and whether it should merit a stoplight.
Like your laid back vid. Was pretty peed off at the owned this owned that but hell man if you are not happy with this or that you change it to suit you. After 46 years of riding I've had many too. As for the bike. Looks good, sounds good . Slow as fek.
I'm looking at this bike coming from the Royal Enfield 350 classic.
It’s a great step up honestly. So smooth, great handling, and can get you on the highway comfortably.
Hitchcocks. Usually have a part that fits but b. expensive.
If you haven't already sorted it, I'd advise getting the cover that goes inside the air-filter box, otherwise you'll be getting unfiltered air going into the engine. Not always a good idea. You should be able to find it on the Hitchcocks parts pages. Apart from that, enjoy the bike, they're great.
Nice bike! I have owned a few of them. Easiest bike ever to kickstart. You should learn the technique before you need it. A solenoid is a relay. It’s just jargon to call it that when associated with a starter. The cable probably just came unscrewed at the speedo. Brake fluid is hydroscopic, meaning it sucks water out of the air. Worse than alcohol in gas.
There is no kickstart fitted to this model year.
@@Vanrides. oh! Must be a 2010. My first one was a 2010 but thanks to RE record keeping its current owner says it’s a 2011. My 2012 had a kickstart.
Try a rear view mirror 🤫
Funny you should mention that, I actually just fitted some bar end mirrors today! Stay tuned for another update!
Would those heated handgrips be available for all models of Royal Enfield bikes??
Absolutely! The kit I bought is universal, so you can use the same basic method to install them on any bike. Absolutely worthwhile to save your hands!
@@TheGoarReport oh, it's a universal kit So, it would work on any bike regardless of it being a Royal Enfield, Harley Davidson, or even a Kawasaki
Exactly
Great folks at Motopia...bought my '22 Himalayan from them. Thanks for reviewing my fantasy street bike! The sound of the triple is delicious...when the Moto2 guys come by at full song I get chills.
I totally agree! I love the triples, there’s nothing quite like them. I definitely recommend taking one for a spin if you get a chance, too!
Always good to learn about the Enfield, thanks for documenting your work.
Surprised the 2010 doesn't have a kick-start. My 2019 B5 has one. It should start with the side stand down, just not in gear.
My bike (2016 model) will not run with the kick stand down, whether in gear or not.
Love it mine started out just like that - - - - - the video ........ th-cam.com/video/cxnz8TXP8Lo/w-d-xo.html
Welcome to the club gentlemen ✌🏻❤️
Very nice. Have you checked on the condition of the sprag clutch? Mine got chewed up over time. Watch out for some flex if you try to push the handling. The aftermarket muffler sounds good.
I checked it out when I had everything apart to replace the starter, I saw in a few different places that these are a weak point… thankfully mine is in good order at the moment. That’s another thing that makes me wish I had a kickstarter too, I think RE really should’ve kept that going on these.
Great to see that it was a fairly quick repair. hope you get to ride it soon. bike looks great.
