    Well if Andrew's raiders in 1862 succeeded the civil war would have ended in 3 years if only. Both the general and texas are imortal trains that will love on preserved in history forever.

    Thanks for posting these extracts. I remember seeing this film at the Cinema when it first came out in the fifties - it was the 'B' Movie shown with Pollyanna with Hayley Mills. Being a train enthusiast I enjoyed it although I didn't realise that it was based on a true story during the US Civil War. At the time I wouln't have understood anything about the reasons for the Civil War. I don't think that it has ever been shown on UK Television - I am not sure if a DVD is available in the appropriate format for UK Viewers.

    At 3:33, it has the same sound effect of the train chugging in “The Aristocats” when after Edgar kidnapped the cats and tried to drive over the police station, but ran away and sighed in relief, he didn’t watch where he was going by accidentally falling down the stairs into the subway on his motorcycle. And when the train whistle blared, he quickly escaped and ran back up. I couldn’t tell if it was either the sound of Edgar’s motorcycle falling down the stairs or the train engine chugging.

      @maskedhero6425 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      There really were no bad guys in this story, just good guys fighting for what they think is right on opposite sides. like any Civil War story there were heroes on both sides. The Andrews Raiders sabotaging the railroad in an effort to destroy the confederacy and bring the war to and end sooner than it did in real life and Fuller and company chasing down and trying to stop what in their perspective was an attempt by enemy agents to screw over their little succeeded "Country".

    • @maskedhero6425
      @maskedhero6425 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@honeyfrost3355 Indeed. Both sides of the chase were good people with sympathetic goals, but honestly, if that really would have ended the war three years before it did, the raiders should have won in hindsight.

      @eliotreader8220 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@maskedhero6425 i like how at the end of the film the General's Conducter visits Andrews before he's hanged. I understand Fuller actually did visit the people who stole his engine in real life after Andrews had been hanged as a spy. but I understand he told them that he would see each one of them hung from the end of a rope before too long. this story i have mentioned was told by one of the Andrews raiders after the end of that war and has to be taken with a pinch of salt as none of the others or Fuller himself talked about their meeting in the jail house in Atlantia. i understand times where different from what they are now

    Jefferson Davis was never tried because it was feared if they gave him a trial he could win in court what was lost in war. As far as executing spies goes, that happened on both sides. Made a good movie though.
