Sailing Seamurai
Japan
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 16 มี.ค. 2021
Living in Tokyo, exploring Japan, it's ocean and inland seas on Ray, my Yamaha 26ft sailboat. I purchased it in March 2021 and since then I am trying to learn many new things, especially when it comes to boat maintenance and repairs. Please join me on this journey and grow with me!
Ep. 20 Taking down the jib sail for some cleaning!
Finally got some time to edit this video from May 2022! Jib sail got lots of mold on it so I decided to take down the jib sail and give it a proper wash. Learned a thing or two in the process and enjoyed a phenomenal ride the very next day! Follow me for more content on @sailingseamurai

Ep. 19 Hull Painting - First Time!
มุมมอง 2.3K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Late April and Golden Week holidays came so I used an opportunity to paint my hull that desperately needed attention. Two years without proper care and I decided to take action. Alone, armed with zero experience and 100% determination to finish the job. Lots of good and bad experiences so I will be ready for next year! Follow me for more content on @sailingseamurai

Ep. 17 Yanmar 1GM Zinc Anode Replacement
มุมมอง 8K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I decided to change zinc anode on my 1GM and tried a method that doesn't require alternator removal prior zinc anode change. And it worked. Follow me for more content on @sailingseamurai
Ep. 16 Yanmar 1GM Engine Impeller Replacement
มุมมอง 11K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Part of my earlier video concentrating only on replacement of impeller on Yanmar 1GM engine. Impeller should be changed after 1 year or 100 working hours, whichever comes first. Operation was quite easy but it didn't go trouble-free! Seacock valve was not properly functioning so check previous episode 15 for full story. Link provided on the end of this video.
Ep. 15 Underwater Shave and Naughty Seacock
มุมมอง 2.1K2 ปีที่แล้ว
While I was away, Ray grow some beard of her own! So I did some underwater maintenance with the scrapper and scotch-brite pad. After that I decided to change impeller and zinc anode on my Yanmar 1GM. It was straightforward job, but finding out that sea-cock valve could not be properly closed was a bit of shocker. Chapters of the video for each operation are given below. 0:00 Intro 2:07 Hull scr...

Ep. 10 Bulkhead Compass Replacement
มุมมอง 4.8K3 ปีที่แล้ว
It was time to replace dodgy compass on my boat. It wasn't working since I bought Ray and finally figured out why. Purchased new Plastimo Mini Contest and happy with the new look and functional piece of equipment!
Ep. 9 Sailing from Choshi to Oarai and back
มุมมอง 2.3K3 ปีที่แล้ว
Finally took some time to bring Ray on a journey further north to Oarai marina in Ibaraki Prefecture. It was a 2 days amazing adventure and lots of lessons learned!
Ep. 8 Autopilots, pedestals and rotten lazarettes pt. 2
มุมมอง 1143 ปีที่แล้ว
In this second part of the story I repaired lazarette holes using a Marine-Tex putty and found more rotten spots! After all has been taken care of, I installed new autopilot pedestal and re-mounted the lazarette hatch back to it's place. Quite happy with results! It wasn't esthetically perfect fix but highly functional.
Ep. 7 Autopilots, pedestals and rotten lazarettes pt. 1
มุมมอง 1713 ปีที่แล้ว
In this two episodes story, I will try to replace ST2000 pedestal pin and pedestal itself. But new problems emerged when I discovered that lazarette cover required immediate attention and rot containment!

It's easier if the alternate is removed😢
Hi Sailing Seamurai Thanks for this great video. Since I changed my impeller, the cover from the impeller is leaking water. Had you or anyone else this problem? How can I seal it up again?
How tight should the bolts.be. i replaced mine and.need a new gasket. It leaks from the bottom. I have tighted some more and leaking is reduced some but not all. I didnt want to overtighten. The old.gasket was stuck tight on the engine, and I had to scrape away a lot. Maybe it needs more cleaning...
Really usefull thank you man !
Do you still have your boat? I lived in Japan for six years and have a dream of sailing the Inland Sea. Would appreciate a chance to ask questions.
Hi, yes I still have it. Inland sea is beautiful location for sailing indeed. Many scenic areas and places to stop and experience Old Japan.
If the impeller shaft leaks due to salt crystals scouring, it drips on the long under pipe causing failure within a year. You can re-use the scoured shaft if you turn the impeller oil seal around. I spray grease over all the 3 oil feeder pipes twice a year. I've motored all over europe and put 5000 salty hours on mine, 4 impellers, one long lower return pipe, 3 internal anodes, one impellor oil seal and very little MGO 😉 Good video P.S I once had the engine diesel filter come loose and had to turn it and bleed her. I gave her a hosepipe flush once. I have a stuart turner sea-cock and raw water filter and replaced that short pipe twice 🤣 I changed to stainless bolts for ease of access on the impellor and white silicone sealant years ago, 5 minute change on a lee-shore 😉 Due to no money my engine has been held in place after all 4 engine mounting rubbers came away by about 40 very big cable-ties, not too tight, not a great option but, it will get you home...
Great Videos, well described and presented, I found this very helpful indeed. Thank you!
LOL that compass is supposed to be mounted on a horizontal surface, not a vertical on. Welcome to previous owner hack jobs.
thank you so much~
Brilliant! Very helpful and confidence giving! Thank you!
Glad to know it helped!
Thanks I'm mounting a surface mount on a 14deg sloped vertical surface. You gave me some ideas. The compass I'm installing can tolerate up to a 30 deg pitch. Most mount surfaces are not flat they have some pitch. Good video, fair skies and following winds to you.
Thanks for the clear video! My 26ft boat has the same engine, and I will soon do my first real maintenance on the engine before it's hauled out of the water for this winter!
Why no sailing? The boat is a lot more stable with (reefed) sail up, than motoring with no sails. For longer passages with headwind, it may be more comfortable and relaxing to just to just sail and tack your way up, rather than motoring/hammering straight into the wind.
Some great advice you gave, I'm just about to change the oil on mine
Why the annoying music? You speak at a low volume and the jazz is at a higher volume. No happy medium so I moved on.
Did someone show you the front door
Protect the pipes underneath with cosmoline spray like CRC 06026 Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor and better yet some Densyl Tape - DENSO All Purpose Petrolatum Tape. Your oil line is rusting already!
Thanks for a good tip! I noticed it couple of months ago as it got worse so will definitely do that!
It was interesting, so I watched all the videos. With subtitles, even Japanese people could understand it easily. Since you seem to speak Japanese, I would like you to make a Japanese version of the video as well. I don't think it's a problem even if your Japanese is a little cluttered. If you cannot speak in Japanese, you can speak in English.
3:06 What is this IPAD app called?
Navionics by Garmin. It is available for both iOS and Android.
@@sailingseamurai thank you.
This as exactly what I needed to see. Thank you. I am jealous of your easy access to the side of the engine. You need to be a bit of a contortionist to get at my dipstick.
Glad to know it helped! What boat you have if I may ask?

Love you video, thank you so much for share!
Cool, thank you!!
And now a hoist out to replace that cheap seacock. Thanks for the clear video.
Thanks! Very useful.
初めまして あなたと同じヨットを中古で購入しました 色々参考にさせてもらいます 質問です 陸からの電気を差す場所はこのヨットのなかのどこにありますか?
Thank you for sharing this. Is there a rule for how much sanding and grinding is "ok"? I'm asking because anyone with a slightly obsessive mindset (asking for a friend of course! haha) might want to go all the way down to the core of the hull, whereas I have a feeling that this is not the goal here.
Thanks for comment. Basically you want to create a base for a new primer / barrier layer to catch up so make sure that old paint is removed as much as possible but don't be too much obsessive with it especially if there are some stubborn old layers. As long as they don't peel and are relatively smooth, it is OK. Basically you don't want to damage gel coat below the paint and seeing white areas below your sander disk is a sure sign to stop. Seeing the resin with fibers means you did too much.
Cool, thanks! Lots of little things I would not have thought about.
You didn't turn the seacock back on? Or if you did you didn't tell others that don't know boats to make sure to turn back on so they don't burn up new impeller other than that great video
Hi, thanks for comment! Yes seacock needs to be turned back on. Disassembly and assembly steps are assumed to be mirrored around the subject of repair.
I enjoyed that
How can you evaluate the condition of the zink? Looked big..?
general rule is to replace them once a year, however this may depend on water salinity, engine usage and do you keep your boat in a water all year long or not. Some suggest that anode should be changed when reduces to half of it's full size, however if you already removed it from the engine for checking, you might as well replace it.
Is this new pec smart - a good app for japan? Lots of details?
Asks for a separate sign in with apple…( I’ll figure it out)
It is Japanese app. It is made exclusively for Japanese waters.
@@sailingseamurai this is what we need!!
Totally cool!!! Music choice is great( a bit loud..) narration: youre in my back yard ( im in Kanagawa)- so i love the travel info
Sorry to watch you so late- summer vacation gives me time to catch up on all the cool videos have to be in Japan amazing trip! Be safe sir
Its good to ask! Why not two reef lines?
First reef it's too low and doesn't reduce sail surface enough.
I have one question before you painted did you wipe the hull down with acetone?
Hi Alan, no I didn't except for a light brush of the keel. For the hull, once finished sanding I used dry cloth and wiped it in couple of passes to remove dust and dirt.
お疲れ様でした. I watch your video and you did an amazing job learned a lot others what to do and not to do. I hope your sailing is smooth sir
That compass is not designed to be mounted on a bulkhead in a vertical position. That's why it jammed and doesn't work. It is designed to be horizontally mounted on top of a wheel steering binnacle.
Yes that is what I learned after buying a boat. It was absolutely insane for me that previous owner installed it in a first place.
Watch the whole video dick
Looks great!
Turn the music off when you’re talking so people with hearing aids can you hear what you are saying.
Thanks John. Well noted! I have also enabled CC closed caption subtitles so you might want to turn them on.
Good job! I watched with interest every step of the way. Glad to see you have a disc line cutter. I recently installed one on Wahine. Did you find any damage on the disc? I see you painted it. Hmmm… makes me think I should have done the same … hmmmm …
No damage on the disk whatsoever. I repainted it because it was painted in the first place and there was still some growth on it. It probablz does not require to be painted as it is not original part of the propeller assembly, so you should be OK.
Good on ya , never ever easy doing it the first time and you seemed to do a fantastic job , remember its the journey we all love not the result. Chee YEw.
Thanks! 👍
Its kinda funny since if you search oarai on youtube theres an 100 percent chance to find anime.
I hope it wasn't that much disappointing :)
Me encanta 😍
Great video Nemanj! Thanks for sharing. And thank you very much for helping my bro, François!
Thank you for your help and great video! And thank you also for the nice sailing in choshi last weekend ! Mari
Thanks for coming. You and Francois are always welcome.
Great episode!
Thanks! You guys should come to Choshi sometimes!
Nice video and good /skilled sailor ! Thanks again ! François
Great episode. Good detail about a navionics not marking seaweed and clam nets. Holly hell that Katsudon was huge and the cherry blossoms were a nice touch. Keep up the great work. I need to go back and start from episode 1.
Another great video Nemanja. I love all these little cameos of life around the Setonaikai. It’s such a beautiful area. Looking forward to the next trip!
Glad you enjoyed it!
